So, once again I realized the Oscars are upon us and I know nothing about the movie films involved...a question, in two parts:
*Guesses on the movies nominated for Best Picture? (as it turns out I actually knew four of them)
*How many of those movies have you actually seen (me - 1)?
All of them....No Country will win. It's the best film I've seen in 10 years...
There Will Be Blood is also freaking brilliant...any other year and it would have won Best Picture I think. Except maybe last year because the Academy wanted to get the monkey off Scorsese's back...my two cents.

My vote would be for There Will Be Blood...though I still haven't seen No Country yet...

My personal fave punk band of all time. Prolific, talented and decidely anti-establishment (especially in their younger days).
I actually only know a little of NOFX, but what I have heard I enjoy. There was an album a while back called something like White Trash, a Heeb and a Bean that I listened to -- and it was as much ska as straight-ahead punk. Good suff.

My apologies - to me the only punk band that even matters is The Misfits.
The original title of that album was "White Trash, Two Kikes and a Spic"...
NOFX's early stuff is the best but they've got a really large catalogue at this point (almost 25 years). Punk in Drublic is a great album with which to get acquainted with them.
My favorite story about them (and their are many) is that they threatened to sue MTV many, many years ago (when MTV showed videos) because MTV had aired one of their videos. Had a cease and desist letter sent out and all. Not b/c they didn't want their video airing, because they fucking hated MTV.
Alright, so I tuned into First Take to get a gander at Skip's suit. And, he looks like a cross between Bob Huggins and MC Skat Cat.
I thought it looked like a suit designed after the Pop-Tarts Chocolate Chip Cookie design.
And if you saw Skip's suit, I sure as hell hope you saw Larry the Cable Guy's appearance.
How the fuck that guy is famous is beyond me.

Do Sid Vicious and the boys get no credit?
Not much. Seminal for style over substance, one great album, and the right place at the right time. Otherwise, no staying power, no depth, not the only band that matters ever.
And Sid was a sidelight. His predecessor played bass on the album, he was an enjoyable but utterly talentless Malcolm McLaren puff piece addition for effect. Everything Sid Vicious is indicative of what takes the Pistols out of The Clash's realm.
And no, I don't have unreasonably strong opinions on this at all. Of course not.

I do not love The Clash and I feel old. The Pixies are better in that genre, IMHO. The Pixies may not count as 100% punk rock to punk rock aficionados, but they sound like punk rock to me. Unlike Jake Barnes and bullfighting, I don't have much aficion for punk rock.

In case anybody was wondering (doubtful), last night's show was great. NOFX brought it, as always, and No Use For A Name was damn fine as well. And, it true punk fashion, I got so blitzed that I ended up puking in the parking lot of a bar later on in the evening.
I'd almost forgotten what it was like to be 19...

1) Glennfiddich 12 Year is fantastic. I had a half-pint of it during a viewing of Michael Clayton with the wifey.
2) Michael Clayton seems to be a very good movie, but it's very hard to figure out when you're drunk. I'm not sure why they decided Tilda Swinton needed to look like Clarice Starling.
3) There's 5 minutes left in the Memphis-Tennessee game and I'm not sexed up on either team. How is Memphis not a carbon copy of every Cincinnati thug team from the 1990's?
