This is a goddamn work of performance art. It's as if Andy Kaufman chose basketball as his milieu rather than professional wrestling. I can't look away.

Dedicated to the premise that life would be better if we all took ourselves a little less seriously.

Reminded of stories, apocraphyl perhaps, that W&M hoops players in 1980s and '90s headed to CAA Tournament with no change of clothes for weekend and only stuff for spring break after inevitable first-round loss. Only this check-out is a couple weeks early.
ReplyDeletenice free throw percentage.
ReplyDeleteoh and nice work whit, just noticed gheorghemas day 12. i knew it felt like gheorghemas (especially with a new spoon album!)
ReplyDeleteQuick check of record book shows Tribe with fewest points in a game since 1946 -- 33-24 loss to Little Creek Amphibious Base. That game may have been played underwater.
ReplyDeleteI refuse to believe that "Little Creek Amphibious Base" is a real thing
ReplyDeleteTheir early stuff was real, before they went commercial.
ReplyDeleteLittle Creek Amphibious Base is 15 minutes from my house. They have a plaque from that ‘46 defensive performance.
ReplyDeleteSo that's a no on going to see LCD Soundsystem? Bummer. I've always wanted to see them.
ReplyDeleteIn other concert news, Rage Against the Machine and Run The Jewels are going on tour this year. I'm planning on going to a show in D.C. is the Teej will have me. Other VA peeps...interested?
Also, the Bahamas are good and frozen drinks are bueno
ReplyDeleteOh man. I miss the Bahamas. Not sure I'm ever getting on a cruise ship again though. May just have to hop on a short flight.
ReplyDeletei'd love to go that rage/rtj show
ReplyDeleteI’m with you on the cruise ship thing. We flew in Wednesday and fly out Sunday.
ReplyDeleteThe Miami Vice bev, also known as Junkanoo Rush, also known as half strawberry daiquiri half pina colada with a ton is rum… goodness it’s good.
So Rob is in. Show's in August (2nd & 3rd) by the way. Now if I can just get TJ to respond to my texts, I'll buy some tickets.
ReplyDeleteI have responded, assface
ReplyDeleteTeedge smash!!
ReplyDeleteHell of a day in the salt mine for TJ. I'm just trying to buy some tickets before I head down to the beach. Sheesh.
ReplyDeleteDude on the beach asked us to take a pic of him and his peeps. And then he stayed and now is playing spikeball with our drunk gang. And it’s Jason Williams. And he said, “I’m playing on one leg so you guys should win.”
ReplyDeleteBahamas!
whoa whoa whoa whoa
ReplyDeleteJason Williams?
or JAYSON Williams?
Jason. Not white chocolate
ReplyDeleteJay
ReplyDeleteSo not White Chocolate
ReplyDeletenot the guy who killed a limo driver
but the guy who ruined his career in a motorcycle accident?
Glad we could get this straightened out
Yep. And he lost at spikeball to our friends. And then laughingly said let’s go play a real sport… like basketball.
ReplyDeleteNot the Jason Williams from Monroe First West 1992-93?
ReplyDeletenazare is yoooge right now
ReplyDeleteWould have been in for rage/ rtj but will be at the beach those days. Bummer.
ReplyDeleteat a cheer event that has 1,400 teams, 27,000 athletes, and 54,000 spectators. it’s a lot.
ReplyDeletehow does rage/rtj line up with obft? i would go if they were in the same vicinity . . .
ReplyDeleteRage/RTJ are playing shows at MSG after the two on DC as well, Dave.
ReplyDeletedrinking a breakfast old fashioned. things could get interesting.
ReplyDeleteHey Mark, FWIW, LCD Soundsystem is supposed to be musical guest on SNL tonight, with Mulaney as host.
ReplyDeleteSaw TR in his new CO digs. It was good to catch up and wish I had more time.
ReplyDeleteSnow at Copper and Vail was pretty good.
my kidlet turns 18 today. my wife and i have now raised a pair of adults. pretty, pretty good.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Rob. Hope you found a good place in Dallas to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteOBX Dave- thanks for the SNL heads up. I missed it because my wife and I had friends in town visiting from New Jersey and we met up with them and a bunch of other friends at a local watering hole. As luck would have it, my parents showed up to the same place because one of their favorite local bands were playing there (my parents favorite thing is to go out and dance- they're fantastic dancers- to bands they like). Long story short, we had a great time. Did an Irish exit around midnight. My Mom ordered a double Jameson to end her night and she's feeling it today.
today is also mr kq’s birthday. he’s older than my kid. cheers, ken!
ReplyDeleteFlying back to Virginia after four solid days of drinking (predominately big rum beverages) and celebrating friends in the Bahamas. My liver is so angry with me that he asked to be moved to a different seat apart from me.
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday, Mr. KQ.
ReplyDeleteIf there is an extra for Rage/RTJ I might be a taker.
