Today is Metallica lead singer James Hetfield's 55th birthday. My first thought upon learning that was 'damn, that's old'. My second, 'damn, I'm not...that...far...away.' So that was a cheery way to start the day.
Turns out the band has an endearing and stupid tradition on Hetfield's birthdays. I think we need to institute this:

My takeaway from Hatfield being 55 today is that he was 20 when Kill ‘Em All came out. I think about what I was doing when I was 20. It wasn’t nearly as brilliant.
ReplyDeleteit was fucking genius, just in a way the world wasn’t/isn’t ready to appreciate
ReplyDeletesomeone, for sure Whit. someone for sure. and she might well have been.
ReplyDeleteI think Danimal has the lead entry for comment of the year.
ReplyDeleteIf a prank TJ, could be the greatest of all time.
ReplyDeleteSteel Pulse played outdoors in downtown Norfolk last night. In this post I told you that their current configuration is good enough. And they were good.
ReplyDeleteSee how the system works?
We didn't go see Steel Pulse when we were in Jamaica. That's on all four of us I guess.
ReplyDeletei appreciated it! wore out the cassettes of "kill em all" and "garage days."
ReplyDeleteI love Kill ‘Em All. I was late to Metallica and missed an epic show that some high school buddies of mine saw: GnR, Metallica and Faith No More at Giants Stadium in the summer of ‘92.
ReplyDeleteUrban Meyer, Zach Smith and the OSU AD seem to have a plan - apologize profusely, make sure Urban emerges as a stand-up guy, and try to create an outcome whereby he can keep his job.
ReplyDeleteI can’t believe major conference WR coaches make $340 K/year. Is that more than what Laycocke makes?
I DVR’d the CFL game w/ Manziel. His team is poop. He has made a couple big errors, but this huge field is perfect for his scrambling. And it’s good to see him in a town w/o any nightlife distractions.

ReplyDeleteIn the summer of 1992 I worked with some older kids who went to Metallica/GnR at Giants Stadium. Apparently it was transformative. I, of course, was not cool enough to go.
ReplyDeleteMy music nerd high school friends swear by Faith No More.
ReplyDeleteit’s in the mall and you can’t grab it. #jokeforone
ReplyDeleteor, actually, you’re in the mall and you can’t buy shit. #stillajokeforone
ReplyDeleteI just saw Bettye Lavette from the front row at The Harvester tonight. If she comes near your town, I strongly suggest you go.
ReplyDeleteBe aggressive, be-e aggressive.
ReplyDeleteAnd at the risk of being repetitive, this Pinhook rye gets it done.
i’m taking my kidlet to see jake shimabakuro at a little venue in our town tomorrow. much excite.
ReplyDeleteSleekness.
ReplyDeleteHi Gheorghies! Wife decided to spoil our little guy w/ a sleepover while the older one is out at camp. I had my last few couch scotches after the rugrats allegedly went to bed. I was then surprised by a kid who quietly entered my family room at midnight, asking to go home while quietly absorbing the filthy Tom Segura stand-up routine I was drunkenly watching. Thankfully, the dad made the 4-min drive to my place to scoop him. I’m hoping the kid won’t repeat the phrase “I dumped into a girl” to his parents.
ReplyDeleteI am the one for Rob's jokes! Honored.
