Kill All the Golfers

Hertha Berlin needs Carl Spackler.

The Bundesliga side faced an unusual challenge this week in the days leading up to its first match of the season. As head coach Pal Dardai's squad headed out to training on Thursday, they saw this:

The mole damage, not the dude's ass. You can still train if you've got a guy's ass on the pitch. Not so much with a network of mole tunnels under your training ground.

Spackler will have to try a different approach, however, as moles are a protected species in Germany with a fine of up to 50,000 euros ($57,773) if killed or injured.

Hertha Berlin, which finished 10th in the Bundesliga last season, features America goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann (yes, that Klinsmann). Known as Die Alte Dame (the old lady), Hertha was a founding member of the German Football Association in 1900. Football clubs get nicknames for a lot of reasons. If Hertha's known as the Moles in years to come, it'll be an improvement.

My wife had a bunch of friends in town and decided to invite everyone over for a pool party at our house. It’s going to be an absolute shit show. Pray for me.

I’m in the market for my first lawmower ever. I have something like 0.169 acres of yard. What should I get?

A goat.

And hang tough, Mark. A vigorous round of Marco Polo should drive them away.

embrace the hipster, z. go old school blades, no motor.

What happens to the grass? It just falls onto the lawn? And blows away or mulches?

my 14 y/o is stubborn as shit in the best of times. at the moment, she's in the midst of a particularly surly phase. this morning, as i was trying to get her to hurry up and get dressed so we could leave the house, she was acting like a little mule. her sister, now 16 and in a notably parent-friendly mood of late, said to her, 'your father loves you. stop being such a cunt.'

i laughed.

That’s fucking fantastic. You’re doing a good job, Rob.

Did I mention that one of my wife’s kinda friends who’s an absolute mess invited herself? And that she’s been drinking since noon? Good times.

Are the Bizzaros in the house?

My eldest son had a great time at sleepaway camp, and he is excited for year three. The youngest is excited for year 1. Dad just dropped a small deposit to secure their slots. Four kidless weeks await us. Only 51 weeks away. Fuck, that’s a long time from now.

RIP John McCain.

A few Bizzarro’s were in the House, Marls. How do I make the remaining stragglers leave?

No craziness like Mark's but we have 11 kids (10 or 11 years old) just falling asleep in our TV room on a floatila of air- mattresses. One random kid is asleep but farting every 30 seconds. Two kids keep snickering. I can barley stop from laughing while hoping I can go sleep soon. This close to the same group of kids that will wake up 3 hours wanting pizza. I won't be bitter in the morning.

Successful party. No major issues or crises.

Unfortunately two couples are still hanging out. I just want to knock back a couple bourbons and stumble to bed. Why won’t these people just go to their homes?

Hoping Danimal and his clan are far away from that riverfront mall in J-Ville. Awful story.

my sister says that there was a fatal shooting at a high school football game in jax on friday, and one of my 16 y/o niece’s friends died in a car accident over the weekend. much love to the jax community.

Mark said...

Yes, a shooting after a big local high school football game and today’s shooting was at a large outdoor social area in downtown Jax. A place where me and a number of G:TBers have partied after Florida-Georgia. We live in troubling times.

Mark, your last sentence is unfortunately very true. I am not being facetious when I say I consider this space a safe haven to retreat to win the news of the world becomes severely depressing. It’s why I love my friends and value them as strongly as I do anything.

zman said...

If you’re pining for good news, zmom recovered to the point where I was able to move her home today. She isn’t back to 100% and may never get there, but she should be able to return to her old lifestyle.

rob said...

that's worth a huzzah, for sure

TR said...

Would you say she is 96.9% back?

zman said...

Closer to 86.9%. She has most but not all of her marbles.

The family and I hit the Red Bulls - DC United game today. Rooney started and played ~75 mins for a DC. They had him up top at striker, which was curious b/c he does little/no running. At all. His game consists of taking all free kicks, receiving passes and doing one-touches to the outside, and going after crosses.

He looked like he ate about three pounds of ziti in Little Italy last night. This may be the last run for Wazza.

After the conversation I had with Z, I’m happy that things have worked out for him. His situation was suboptimal.

Im on the tail end of a weekend of partying with my wife’s friends and it’s been pretty solid.

Following up on Whitney’s point, I value every time I meet you assholes.
