Rugby World Cup Preview

The Rugby World Cup starts today in Twickenham, England. At press time, the hosts lead Fiji, 18-8. Mr. KQ is somewhere at or near the event, so we hope he chimes in with some local color.

Clarence was supposed to write a preview, but he's Clarence, so here's a link to the Cup site.

Ruck and maul, shoot the boot, and all that.

  1. I've heard great things about Finnishing schools.

  3. As a young teen, I learned that touching the rug is a real thing. Took me a while to actually do it, though.

  5. 9:15 PM ET start time for Bama-Ole Miss kinda sucks. No way I'll make the end of that.

  6. Tribe hanging in there early against UVA. ESPN3 has it.

My biggest concern w/ the Tribe this year is that the size of the numbers on the front of their jersey is way too small, relative to the size of the numbers on the back of their jersey. Looks weird.

  7. You can't make it to 12:30? Come on. I have faith in you.

  8. Tribe just showed an enormous set of stones, going for it on 4th down from just inside midfield, then calling a shifty passing play resulting in a touchdown. I love their lack of fear for UVA.

On the flip side, I'm sad for DLC's highest profile client being in need of prepping his resume for a new gig.

  9. Tribe up ten after an easy INT. We have the best-named kicker in Division I (Dorka).

...and now a 3-pt lead. We need to stop the run.

  10. Am guessing that nd has lost its 5th starter for the year.

  11. Tribe recovers onside kick to start third qtr.

  16. indeed, mark. it's breaking my heart to see auburn get dumptrucked.

  17. Tribe game is a little bonkers. Flailed on a fourth down trick play at the one, stop UVa on three runs, then get a safety on a blocked punt. They'll still lose but it's a weird game.

  18. Incidentally, if they can punch it in here, hold and score another TD within 6 minutes, the score would b e 36-35...

  20. I'm pretty sure Florida's going to lose to Kentucky tonight. Unfortunately being prepared for that outcome won't make dealing with it any easier.

  21. I don't think anyone gave nd much of a chance today.

  22. Some drama in Charlottesville. A lot of ties feeling a little tight right now.

  23. The catch made by Michigan State's Burbridge continues to be overhyped. It was a nice catch yes. But one ESPN guy called it the best catch of the year and Mack Brown said it was one of the best he has ever seen. Whaaaa???? Am I missing something?

  24. Tribe loss was a dagger. I blame Mayhugh's comment jinx from 6:41 PM.

Loss of Abdul-Saboor for a long time would make a playoff run difficult.

  25. Kentucky's unis are snazzy.

  26. I agree with Dan that it didn't seem like anybody was picking Notre Dame. That's why I didn't bet it when I (wrongly) thought Tech would roll.

  27. This Bama-Ole Miss game is a battle of some powerful linemen. Reminds me of the Bama-LSU games from 4-5 yrs ago. Hard to see Bama pull it out if its QB play doesn't improve.

  28. God hates Bama or He loves Ole Miss. Only explanation for that play. Sorry Rob.

  29. That was truly ridiculous. Not as ridiculous as how big and athletic Robert Nkemdiche is though.

Not sad about Bama getting housed though.

  30. Derrick Henry can block too.

  33. america, fuck yeah

also in america news, my daughter finished third in her age group this morning in a mile race, clocking in at a tidy 8:40. #dadbrag the girl that won the age group ran a 7:05. that's crazy for an 11 year-old.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't think I could run an 8:40 let alone a 7:05.

  38. The good news is the Bills scored 32 points against the Pats for only the third time in 21 years. The bad news is they gave up 40 points for the first time since week 15 in 2012. Not at all how I thought this game would wind up.

And the Skins beat the Rams?!

  39. Eagles look horrible. Their punter got destroyed.
