  1. Hey Mark--this explains why people don't like the Gators:

  2. he's been getting hammered this week in the press. i saw that mcenroe profile a week or so ago and yes, immediately thought he was shorted on the brains a bit and is in great need for a p.r. person. or maybe even a life coach. dude needs some help for sure.
he's actually older than phelps. that was news to me. phelps too a douchebag but i will say he represents himself a tad better than RL.
the comments posted at the end the article are quite funny.
    jeah!

  4. Agreed on all points Danimal.
    Lochte is hot.
Both Phelps and Lochte are d-bags, but in different ways.
The commennts in that article are priceless.

I think Lochte's next move will be opening a male strip club in Tampa--and model his life after Magic Mike. He's already half-way there.

  6. The Greatest American Heroes...

Believe it or not I'm walking on air...
I never thought I could feel so free-ee-ee!

  7. So people don't like the Gators because of one athlete who attended Florida and still lives in Gainesville? Even though most people had no idea he went to Florida until recently? Hmmm. That seems like a stretch.

You're better than that, Shlara. At least that's what I thought.

  8. Mark--this is one illustration of the Gator attitude that irks people who are not from Florida. You know exactly what I'm talking about, so don't try to pretend here.

  9. Hi, Gheorghies!

On pace for 304 posts this year. Lowest since 2007. I blame Dennis.

  10. Any of you red-blooded males up early this morning, I highly recommend you check out the women's beach volleyball match between Spain and Italy.

  11. Random female commentator after Jamie Lynn Gray scores a 10.8 on her final shot to win gold in the 50M air rifle: "This is the stuff that people will talk about." Congratulations to JLG, but, um, really?

  12. In case you were wondering, they are playing Vengalis during the medal presentations for 50M Air Rifle.

It might be time to get off the couch to go do something.

  14. this is dominance at its absolute best. that's what the commentator had to say about williams over sharapova. sexy.

  15. Phelps. That guy is great. Bad start, bad turn, wasn't a huge favorite. Still wins in his last event. And you knew he was going to do it.

  16. missed the lithuania game. can i get a recap, mark? i'll hang up and listen.

  17. I can't get a good screen grab of it on the Internet yet, but let's just say that after the French Men's Doubles Team won the bronze... well, things got weird.

  18. Serve speeds look a lot more impressive in KMPH.

  19. Rob- Lithuania played really well as a team. Took advantage of our lack of size inside as well as a sluggish start by our starters. The US had several double digit leads but could never pull away and Lithuania kept making runs to stay in the game. They were in no way intimidated by the US (which is expected) and their defense (kind of a matchup zone) gave us problems. Our lack of an inside presence showed as we settled for a ton of threes (during one stretch we were 2-19 from 3) and didn't have an option to go to on the block. Coach K actually went really small on a few occasions using 3 guard lineups (Paul, Williams, Westbrook was one of them) and using Melo, Lebron Durant at the 4 &5 spots.

We knocked down some key 3s late to secure the win. LeBron was a beast in the 4th quarter. Just superb all around play and a really big 3 late. Good game. Really fun to watch.

Also, Spain lost to Russia. Very good chance we could see Russia in the Finals.

  20. These water polo guys actually try to drown their opponent in playing defense. While treading water. Riveting.

  21. Shlara - "gator attitude that irks people who aren't from Florida". That's an awfully big generalization for a school with nearly 50,000 students each year.

I find it hard to believe Florida's the only university that has douchebag/arrogant students and alumni. I'm sorry you've had bad experiences with Gators. Plenty of us are very pleasant, enjoyable people. I've met some really douchey Hurricanes, Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs and others in my time but I generally try and remember thats an individual thing. Painting an entire group of people with a board brush is usually a pretty bad idea.

  22. there's a huge ohio state merch display at a store i'm in. which is in myrtle beach. i find this odd.

  23. Now that's a fan base everybody should hate.

  24. I missed the phelps swim and failed dvr. Who is the douche bag now?

    Honda and Judas Priest. Interesting.

I feel the guy w the prosthetic leg being able to compete in the Olympics is bullshit. There. I said it.

  25. Interesting aspect (to me at least) of today's game vs. Lithuania that I don't think many people are considering: Basketball is by far the biggest sport in Lithuania. It's what they do. It's the only sport they are globally relevant in. They always play us tough. And I think these two things are highly related. We only beat then by 2 in the semifinals in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

Which is to say. The game was a good test. We didn't come out particularly fired up and never shot the ball all that well. But we won.

  26. spurrier is why i think gators are douchey, mark. in case you were wondering.

    ReplyDelete
  27. but i kinda like billy donovan

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love Spurrier. He's such a dick. But it's pretty easy to see why someone would dislike him.

Billy seems to be a pretty genuine, family guy. Though now that I've said it he'll probably get caught with hookers and blow in small motel off of 441 later tonight.

  29. I'm rewatching the second half of US-Lithuania. Our defense was terrible. That obviously needs to be improved.

  30. Awesome race....happy for farah

  31. really hope you folks got to watch the men's 10k final. awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  32. LeBron was really impressive down the stretch for the USA. Chris Paul was no slouch either.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Had it on TV2. Pretty cool.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Anybody else catch the post-race for the 10-K when the American who silvered spit on the track, and then the Brit who won laid on the ground and rolled in it w/o realizing it? Not that the Brit cared. He was as happy a guy as I've ever seen. Great Olympic moment.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think that was more of his insides than spit but yeah, saw it. Rupp running 5k also which should be as entertaining.
    America. Fuck and Jeah!

  36. And Will and Kate should get a gold for their ambitiousness. They haven't missed a thing those two little shavers. They must have some pretty great tix.
