Bustin' Loose

MCA, Duck Dunn, and Chuck Brown? God's orchestra just added some funky, funky, shit.

zman, what's not to understand?

I'm with the Zman. It's nothing to hate, but nothing to love (IMO). I'm sure it holds up just fine if you're a few drinks deep and you're seeing them live w/ some ladies getting down around you, but it doesn't seem like anything you'd ever play, except for ambience music at a party.

Respect him as a pioneer, but don't think it stands up to the other funky pioneers.

my sense is that the live go-go experience is hard to recreate on record - go-go shows are legendary for their nonstop jams, high energy, and crowd engagement.

You're also describing the "live TR in the budoir" experience with that phrase.

("legendary for nonstoop jams, high energy and crowd engagement")

Go-go is remarkably popular in DC and I don't understand why. I note that you could substitute "DMB" for "go-go" and have an equally accurate sentence.

I don't have a problem with people who like go-go, but I find it to sound a bit goofy and thus don't understand its popularity. I am still stunned that DC's local hiphop station plays go-go on Saturday nights as opposed to having something analogous to DJ Red Alert's show.

The only go-go I know is go-go boots and I'm all for them.

Just read this quote:

"A document by a conservative super PAC refers to the president as "metrosexual, black Abe Lincoln.""

I would love it if somebody called me that. Especially if they added "Vampire Hunter" at the end.

The go-go sound remeinds me of a prior life when I saw a lot of live music. I went to a few "all star funk jam shows" that usually featured a group composed of a guy or two from the Meters and some local jazz/blues/funk guys. it always sounded cool, but having musicians who never played together was never a good thing. There were usually some long, wanky versions of well-known funk tunes that never went anywhere. Go-go sounds like that.

odu leaving the caa. how do you spell shitshow?

The live Go-Go experience is what changed my feelings on it. Non-stop energy from the musicians and the crowd. And the, ahem, ladies in attendance really, really enjoyed it.

Add Donna Summer to the list.....
That one likely hurts me more than most of you. #lastdance

Musicians are dropping like flies. Or are we just at an age where we have been exposed to so much music that it was bound to happen.

TR said...

Damn. Donna Summer was great. Every time I hear Hot Stuff, I think of The Full Monty.

Donna Summer's death hits close to home. zwoman's uncle was her agent. Uncle Jerry always promised zwoman that Donna Summer would sing at her wedding.

I love it. I'm thrilled to have those "schools", especially ODU, out of the conference. ODU was going to be an absolute nightmare in football and obviously there's no way we can compete with them in hoops. It hurts the power rankings, but it's not like the Tribe ever benefited from good rankings anyway.

Danimal, congrats. Might be worth a road trip. Never met the Danimal. Depending on where and when, I might be able to hook you up with a place to stay in VT.
