Father of the Year, Part II

My kids have talked about the 2011 Washington Post Peeps Diorama contest ever since our entry in the 2010 contest (Georgia O'Peepe's Studio) failed to make the finals. We've brainstormed ideas (leader in the clubhouse, Big Peepi), talked about building materials, and prepared our Peep muscles with a rigorous workout program.

Imagine my surprise, then, when I opened the Washington Post Magazine today to find the announcement of the winners of this year's contest. Guess who completely missed the contest-opening meeting?

Thank God for the 2011 G:TB Circus Peanut Diorama Contest.

For some reason I wasn't allowed to take Patriot's Day off despite my offer to pledge allegiance to our Boston office.

Just sat at the table next to Ovechkin at lunch. He was wearing a v-neck white t-shirt with 19 holes in it, stone washed jeans with a pair of sweat pants over them but only pulled up to just below his butt, and flip flops. He had the pasta.

You know what activity I considered overrated when I was younger that now couldn't be more underrated? Stretching. Makes all the difference in the world the day after strenuous (or semi-strenuous) activity.

Enjoyed the chaos of managing the Info Booths at the start/athlete's village of the Boston Marathon for the fifth straight year.

Dumbest question this year: Where can I buy a number for the race? Happened at 9:55. First wave of runners with Elite men goes off at 10AM. I can see a guy trying something like this but it was a girl.

Sort of bummed not to see the WR time finish. Just too lazy to hike into town after finishing my gig.

Rob, random note. Little man was wearing the Red Sox shirt again today. Something about that shirt.

Stretching is huge. At some point I learned that stretching my hip eliminates my knee pain. Makes no sense unless you look in an anatomy book.

I keep waiting for Geoff's follow-up comment about his post-lunch interlude with Ovechkin.

D-train, your friend might have made up the difference if they traded in their pair of winchester cross trainers for some running shoes.

Best race in years to run a PR at Boston.10-15 MPH tailwind. Very very unusual. Sucks to be your buddy.

If the Richmond traffic is bumming you out, you're not gonna like what lies ahead...
