"Laces Out" Night at the Ballpark

The Red Sox Class A team, the Lowell Spinners, sure do seem to know promotions. I count 38 promotional nights already, with the newest addition being June 24th, when the Spinners will trot out Stephen "You're no Vinatieri, You Bum" Gostowski to kick autographed footballs into the stands as part of "New England Patriots Night" at the Spinners' LeLacheur Park. I can only hope Spinners RHP Felix Ventura can get involved in this.

"I'm looking for Stephen Gostowski...and a clean pair of shorts."

Everybody Loves Jim:

And as shortstop Pokey Reese observed of former Cincinnati GM Jim Bowden, "As we say in the clubhouse, you know that man is lying when his lips are moving." Amazingly, Reese lasted seven more months with the Reds before Bowden traded him to Colorado.

Um, what??

Japan's first "baby hatch", where parents can drop off unwanted infants anonymously, opened Thursday despite opposition from the conservative national government.

I'm gonna go drop off the frat baby. I'll be back in a couple days...

Will Jason Collins fit in the hatch?

I really hate talking about TV on a blog, but Lost is the greatest show of all time.

Better than Herman's Head? Better than Rome is Burning?

I've never liked a TV show as muhc as the people who liek Lost and The Wire like those shows. Not even Seinfeld or 30 Rock...which are probably my two favorite comedies of all time along with Arrested Development and The Larry Sanders Show.

Better than Post?? Doubly doubt it, to put it as Postmaster McGreevy would.

Hooray Beer! Hooray Brewers!

"Teams throughout baseball have changed or are mulling changes in their clubhouse alcohol policies following the death of St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock. And the Milwaukee Brewers are among teams who looked at their policy and decided no change was needed.

The Brewers said Wednesday they will continue to allow beer in their clubhouse during home and away games."

And on off days...and in the morning...and in the men's room...and during the offseason..."

This makes it worse!!! Now MLB is saying the individual is NOT responsible for his actions, and it's up to US, the MLB community, to keep him safe...unless there's a sponser giving us butloads of cash, building us a stadium, and providing jobs to half the city so they can buy tickets to the game. Then, dear booze hound, THEN you are on your own...

Tsk, tsk, tsk...
