Starting today, Roger Federer is auctioning off a collection of clothing and racquets he used in various major tournaments, the Olympics, and Davis Cup play. All proceeds go to the Roger Federer Foundation. The crown jewel of the auction are these Air Zoom Vapor/Air Jordan III mashups from the 2014 US Open.
They are, as the kids say, hot fire. Seven years ago Mark commented on them, saying "Z- you see the new Federer/ Jordan 3 mashups? Whoooo."
The estimate is £40,000 to £60,000. That's about $56,000 to $84,000. Mark's wife hates me right now.
Luckily, there are other similar, cheaper options to bid on. These are estimated at £30,000 to £50,000. As are these.
But look, no sane human being spends that kind of money on used shoes. Mark has dogs and kids and a house to pay for. Much more problematic are these Air Zoom Vapor/Air Max 95 mashups:
They're new, autographed, and come in a fresh box. Crispy. As. Fuck. The £3,000 to £5,000 estimate is still a lot of quid, but not enough to bankrupt the college fund. Mark's wife really hates me right now. But it's for a good cause!

rob, sounds like you missed some real goings on at your local school board meeting last evening
I was just popping in to say the same thing. Those pics are something.
i’m efforting a post on that topic, but it’s taking a while because the whole thing pisses me off so much. uninformed goobers being manipulated by cynical assholes to create a new trumpist cause celebre.
While I agree with Rob the local school board has not done much to help themselves. Since the start of COVID they have been negligent at best. Their lack of management skill has left the door open and the trumpist clown car has driven right through.
On top of that, they actually close schools sometimes because it is “too cold”.
You're telling me that a southern suburb has a not insignificant number of regressive residents? How did that happen?
fully agree, marls. board hasn’t covered itself in glory during the pandemic.
What’s the most money each of you has spent on a pair of shoes?
Shoe shoes? I've spent over $200 but under $300 for a pair of dress shoes. I keep my sneaker expenditures under $100. I think I paid $120 for a pair of Air Tech Challenge IIs but that was a unique situation.
same when it comes to dress shoes. spent $140 over xmas on a pair of air force 1s. usually closer to the vans retail price point.
Does somebody have a link to this school board story?
I’ve gone near $300. But that’s pretty rare. I almost pulled the trigger on those Federer Jordan’s at Flight Club a few years back but they were around $400 and I just couldn’t do it.
For the record, my wife doesn’t hate Zman. She completely blames me for my irresponsible shoe purchases.

"World Chase Tag" is on my telly....NBCSN to be exact. This is competitive tag in a parkour environment. Is anyone else aware of this? It's mildly entertaining.
Live music being back is such a good thing. Going to see one of my favorite bands do a free show at the oceanfront tonight. Cracker. What the world needs now... is exactly this.
Danimal, I've seen it once. Was surfing the cable guide and thought what the hell is this show. Got through a whole episode but haven't searched it out again.
I've also gotten sucked into competitive pickle ball on Ocho at some point. These lesser well known sports are generating some visibility. Hell, a disc golfer disc golfer just signed a 10 year $10 million endorsement contract.
Was going to bring up the school board meeting as well but very late to that party.
In terms of shoes, I regularly buy Hoka One One's that are in the $150 range. Otherwise, I'm sub $100 for every other shoe.
Speaking of shoes, apparently there is no tuna DNA in the Subway tuna sandwich. But I’d bet that, like me, a buck none of you have eaten it. First Jared and now this.
They found Jared's DNA in the Subway tuna subs? Ew.
"The lab said this could mean one of two things: Either there's no tuna in the sandwiches, or whatever tuna is being used is so overly processed the lab couldn't make an identification.
The report also noted, though, that this isn't the only DNA test that's been done. Inside Edition sent samples to a lab as well, back in February, and did find tuna present in the samples tested."
