Fill 'er Up Friday

I spent the week in Orlando with a bunch of sales guys. Recovery starts now.

But the world still needs us, so I can't shirk blogging duty. Our man Teejay offered this spot-on political analysis this morning:

Inspired by his simple wisdom, I reached out to the White House for comment. The response did not fill me with confidence.

Was in Orlando yesterday at Marriott World Center. any chance you were there?

i was at the jw marriott grande lakes. so close, and yet so far. thanks for calling.

Could've given you dolts some good bar/restaurant recs if you were willing to leave the west side/tourist heavy area of Orlando.

As for Marls' better Virginia Union alum career question, it's Ben Wallace. I don't really think it's that close.

i spent about 30 minutes in 4 days outside the confines of the convention center. my time was not my own this week, sadly.

I defer to Mark on all hoops issues, but Oakley has twice as many points as Wallace and about 1700 more rebounds. Their per game averages for rebounds and steals are almost identical. Just sayin.

I would go w/ Wallace over Oak. A better sustained peak, better all-around defensive player, and a championship ring. Oakley did well for a guy whose vertical leap could be measured by the sheets of paper you could put under his feet when he jumps, but Wallace was a Rodman-like rebounder

I think Wallace's peak was due to steroids, due to the stupid-high musculature he put on, followed by the rapid, injury-plagued decline his career had. Total conjecture.

conjecture is our stock in trade, tr. keep in coming.

Teej - how about a Wick/Lego Batman double feature next weekend?

rob, did you eat at primo and take part in their farmer salad? it's go-to. or take one of their world-class caddies? no? jerk.

vines is a staple for me mark...great place to chill out after dinner too if you want to sit outside in a quiet environment with some brown liquor and a cigar. plus it's owned by a famous gambler.

TR summed up my thoughts on Wallace pretty well. He was an elite defensive big man for a long stretch and the lynchpin of a championship team with a defensive identity. Oakley was always good, never great.

Never considered Wallace as a steroid/PED candidate but I don't think that's out of the question at all. I think we'd be shocked by how many NBA guys used PEDs.

Sports Guy's interview w/ Durant is pretty good. KD really opens up. He curses a lot too, which is kinda amusing.

I'm pretty fired up for the OKC-Warriors tonight. Over/under should be at about 235 pets.

The Muppet Babies are awesome

TR, that game is highlight 1 for the evening, and highlight 2 might be this Alec Baldwin-hosted SNL. I haven't sat down at 11:35pm on a Saturday night to watch SNL in many many years, but I just might do so tonight.

I have started DVRing SNL episodes that I'm interested in. The show is in a good place lately. The KD/Simmons pod is terrific. KD seems like a really cool guy. Part of me feeling that way may have something to do with how freely he curses. The Simmons pod with Kerr from the day before is really good too.

In other entertainment news, Viceland is becoming my favorite channel. And Noisey is my favorite show on that network. The most recent episode Noisey:Atlanta might be my favorite yet. If you enjoy music and it's reflection of the environment it's made in and the human condition of that environment you will like Noisey regardless of whether you like that particular music or not.

zman said...

Viceland is fantastic, I think it's what mid-90's MTV would have evolved into if it was run by and for smart people. That sounds like a sentence of Dave--it incorporates a 20-some-odd-year-old reference and sneaky self-aggrandizement. Anyway, I set my DVR to record every episode of Vice on Film. Very interesting and makes arthouse film insight accessible to plebes like me.

I'll have to check that out. Haven't seen it.

If you like drugs (Who doesn't?), Hamilton'a Pharmacopia is dope. Huang's World is good. Weediquette is too. Desus and Mero have been discussed multiple times here. Really, I'm just saying to watch as much Viceland as possible. Everyone in this crowd is bound to find something they dig.

zman said...

You know what I say? Wear what you dig.

Mark said...

Speaking of wearing what you dig, I recently purchased a shirt that depicts the famous Vince Carter dunk over Frederic Weis, except Weis has been replaced by Trump. It arrived in the mail yesterday. It's beautiful.

rob said...

that's post-worthy. we need to see it.

zman said...

Is it like the Obama over McCain shirt?

Dave said...

the main thing i remember about 90's MTV is the line "why couldn't it be tesla?!!"

i believe a w&m caf worker despondently yelled this when the number one song on some MTV countdown show was NOT tesla.

i'll need rob for corroboration, i think

Mark said...

I've never seen that shirt, Z.

Florida guys: Amelia Island refs? There in a week

TR, Denver recs? There in three weeks

And zman, that jersey has nothing on my "Simspon" one

Teej - hit Steuben's for lunch/dinner/drinks. Great food and cocktails, and a mellow, cool vibe. Not too pricey either. Short Uber trip from downtown. It's my strongest white.

Thirsty Lion, which is in downtown Denver, is a fantastic sports bar. Great beer selection and lots of enormous TVs.

And visit a dispensary. Duh. Be wary of edibles.

rob said...

amelia island refs have a notoriously quick whistle, teej. keep your hands up and keep your feet moving.

zman said...

I was accused of having a quick whistle in my younger days.

Mark said...

Don't be wary of edibles. Read the labels and don't take too many mgs at a time.

rob said...

zags/gaels, and me with nowhere to be.

rob said...

fab melo died in brazil. wtf?

rob said...

trying to figure out how przemek karnowski's game will translate to the nba. he's athletically limited, but he's fucking huge, extremely skilled on offense, and has a very good understanding of the game. i think he could be a very solid second-team/rotation post for a long time if his knees hold up.

TR said...

By "be wary", I mean read the label. I once ate 1/12th of a $20 granola bar, thinking that $1.67 worth couldn't be too powerful. Wrong.

Nibble. Wait an hour. Assess.

zman said...

As opposed to our old strategy of "Let's split it in half and eat our shares now"?

Mark said...

I don't see Karnowski playing in the league unless he gets in better shape.

Mark said...

Like I said, it comes down to how many mgs you ingest. If you know how that works you'll be fine. If you don't, you end up expecting to be high right away and overdo it.

Saw that too. Woo buddy.

Mark said...

The Woj podcast is terrific, btw.

Mark said...

Thunder getting their ass kicked. Getting real mad about it. This game is once again interesting.

rob said...

not sure, but i think woj doesn't really respect dolan.
