So Hit It

We've created posthumous playlists and CD's for friends we've lost along the way.  Too late, I say.

I've had many music recommendations, influences, and shared fandom from many friends.  John "Otis" Day is a good friend who's a music guy, in addition to serving as the scribe at Dangerman Futbol.  He's always had a taste for tunes that aligns with mine, and we've gone to shows, exchanged recommendations, and turned it up to 11 together since 1988.

I can't provide much of a salve to the bad fortune he's had in losing both of his folks in the last few years.  But as a small tip of the cap for the hours of great music I've enjoyed with or because of him, here's a swig of Jameson, a Spotify playlist, and an expectation of many more to come.

* Spotify doesn't have the "Straight to Hell" cover by Skinnerbox that Otis enjoys, so here it is.

And worth follow-up inclusion is Big Country, "Chance," from a show in their homeland in Glasgow, Scotland. The crowd participation is outstanding.

Cheers, Otie, and keep the recommendations coming.

Harold Reynolds is particularly grating tonight. Almost overshadows Joe Buck.

That Big Country video is awesome.

Matt Harvey is dealing in Queens.

Volquez not looking too shabby, either.

i was a bit concerned that we'd lost otis. but the overlap between his musical taste and mine is significant, especially in the 80s progressive genre, so i know i'll dig this.

in other news, five days at disney is fucking grueling, as i texted to clarence. my feet hurt worse right now then they did after either of the marathons i've run, and i've still got a day to go. thank god for the food and wine festival at epcot. that shit is dope, as mark can attest.

finally, clarence, when you say 'wow' about the habanero sculpin, is that 'wow, this is actually really fucking spicy'? because that was my reaction.

It was, but also wow intriguing and good enough that I finished it and would get it again for the same price. (Free at a friend's house.) I wouldn't hand over the undoubtedly huge price Ballast Point likely requires.

The grapefruit sculpin, however...yes. Annually or so.

i celebrate the entire sculpin catalogue

Tribe football up to #12 in today's updated FCS coaches poll.

On the topic of Tribe Sports, did anybody know that the men's cross country team has won the CAA championships 16 years in a row? Impressive.

Mark said...

I live in an around the Melbourne area, Mayhugh. Indialantic to be specific. I'd recommend there or Melbourne Beach but there are other decent options as well. Feel free to email me about it.

If the tribe beats Elon and Towson they should get a first round home game. If they win out and beat Richmond they might even get a bye.

If they shit the bed against either Elon or Towson and lose to Richmond they likely miss the playoffs.

rob said...

hey marls. maybe write a post about that shit? lazy motherfucker.

I'm in love. pampering my wife for a couple nights at Amelia Island. New concoction: Sweet and Smokey. Woodford, Yakima smoked salt, blackberries, lime juice, a little simple syrup. Wowzers.

Tirico and Gruden taking advantage of their meal per diem. Am I right?
And Mayhugh...Vero Beach not too shabby if it isn't too far away from targeted locale.

Danimal said...

Hi gheorghies. Anyone watching this game?

Squeaky said...

Danimal, I caught the end of the game while working. I barely squeaked by with a win in FFL after the last Panthers INT.

Fellas, any recommendations for places to eat at or other things to do in Aruba. Leaving on Thursday for a few days. No kid. Which means more drinking than normal and maybe just maybe some loving. A man can dream.

if you need an excuse to drink, raise a glass to fogtb monty mason, who was reelected to the virginia house of delegates this evening. sadly, it appears that dick black, a man as vile as his name, will be reelected to the state senate from the casually racist/moral majority portion of my county.
