Next Saturday, the NBA's best dunkers will, well, most of them will be sitting on the sidelines watching the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. Our money's on the Greek Freak, Giannis Antetokounmpo.

But we're offering a handful of write-in contestants of our own. Last night, Kentucky's Willie Cauley-Stein dropped an epic hammer on Florida's Devin Robinson. Twitter crowned him the king of kings.

And two night's ago, High Point's John Brown took one of the great alley-ooppasses you'll ever see from Adam Weary (great in terms of how it was delivered, not necessarily its accuracy) and did this:

Finally, earlier in the season, Notre Dame's Jerian Grant took an inbounds pass against Georgia Tech and nearly decapitated himself on the rim.

For my money, it's Brown, Grant, and Cauley-Stein in a photo finish. Your results may vary.

that jerian grant dunk appears to be a glitch in the matrix.

Now I have to root for Richie Incognito? Swell.

dean smith passed away after a long decline. pour some out into each of the four corners.

That's sad news. I came here to say something stupid but now I won't.

give it a few minutes out of respect. then, fair game.

it's like grant found an invisible step midway through the dunk. he had to grab the rim to avoid decapitation.

Jerian Grant is 6'5". So by my estimates he has at least a 45" vertical.

I love old speckled hen and makers mark but judging by my intestinal emissions they do not love each other. It's like the war of 1812 in there.

During the War of 1812, the States were on the brink of defeat, thanks in part to an ineffectual Secretary of War. The Secretary of State, however, refused to let us surrender and led such an impassioned, intelligent push to continue the fight that he was named both Secretary of State and Secretary of War, the only time that has happened. Obviously, it worked, as we went on to win the war and preserve this young nation. That man went on to be come our 5th President.

The man was James Monroe, who had received his education at the College of William & Mary.

176 years later, three bad brothers you know so well arrived at the College of William & Mary and were assigned their freshman dormitory: Monroe Hall. And the rest is history.

67 degrees here in SEVA. Two measly degrees away from the ideal temperature, but I'll take it. Perfect February weather.

Grant's knee hit the defenders body and he was pushed further up by the defenders body which is why he go so high on that dunk. A friend of mine who was could dunk a bit had the same thing happen in a men's league game a few years ago and dunked all over a 6'7" guy. It was nasty. And we've never let the 6'7" guy forget it.

Friend of a friend and fellow Satellite High School alum Ashlyn Harris started in goal for the USWNT today. Unfortunately she gave up 2 goals and we lost 2-0 to France.

rob said...

neither of those goals were her fault - maybe you could argue that she misplayed the second, but she was anticipating a cross (which is what it was - the attacker mishit it and it drifted into the net). she played a pretty strong match.

she's also the keeper for the washington spirit, our local women's pro team.

I'm a good bit older than her but I'm friends with her cousin who I've known for many years. She's an exceptionally nice person and hard worker. Plus she has good tattoos.

rob said...

it'd be great if she emerges as a viable alternative to the train wreck that is hope solo.

TR and I were also Monrovians along with Slick Schpfeckt Brady Sammy the Bull FD and Crackbaby. A down year or a banner year for Monroe, depending on your view of the world.

Mark said...

Rob- I just noticed you made a dunk contest winner pick in this post. I've got Oladipo as the winner. Care to make a wager?

TR said...

That year was a banner year for Monroe Hall drug dealing and drug consumption. Not so much for Monroe Hall GPA.

Jerian's dad played for the Bullets back in the day. That kid never ran out of energy...

Dean Smith Smith, Billy Casper and Lee Elder in one week...that is quite a sports trifecta of death right there. RIP.

rob said...

i mean, i could pick a name out of a hat and be just as likely to win, mark, but i'm game. stakes?

Mark said...

I didn't realize AMC was running new episodes of Better Call Saul on back to back nights until my Dad informed me earlier today. Pretty pumped.

As for stakes, Rob. I don't know...loser buys drinks when next we see each other?

rob said...

I flipped to the Grammys about 20 mins ago. Is it a requirement to have a musician from the 70s/80s to accompany every act?

I totally dig it, but am still confused

TR said...

Tom Jones' look at Grammys almost made my head explode. The Madonna performance was a factory of sadness. The male dancers had to gingerly toss her around.

rob said...

'a factory of sadness' is a turn of phrase that needs to make another appearance. i enjoyed it very much.

Mark said...

I agree with Rob. Nice work by TR.

Will be stealing that one as well. May find a way to work "cracker" in.

OK, I'm officially done with the snow. Getting another 12 inches today with storms on Wednesday and Saturday inline.

Plow guys brought in a front loader to move our 7-8' high pile of snow at the end of the driveway back about six feet for the incoming white powdery stuff.

Fun fact, Boston is about to go past the mark of most snow in 40 days (1945 & 68") within the last 18. That's 22 days quicker. Crazy shit.

TR said...

Unlike Brian Williams, I won't lie. "Factory of sadness" dates back to a video meme from last fall. A small-time Cleveland comedian did a video spot where he stood outside the Browns' stadium and essentially yelled at the franchise/stadium, airing his grievances. He called the stadium a factory of sadness. It was funny. I adopted the line.

And that's what TR and Shakira's hips have in common.
