Adopt a Team: Redux

Thanks to Mark's super-sleuthing, we're able to avoid a fairly embarrassing faux pas. Just ignore anything that was posted about adopting a team earlier this year.

We're honoring A Doofus Abroad by dropping a post in his inimitable style, though we'll likely spell everything correctly.

For now, at least, we welcome Fiorentina as our adopted Serie A side. The Gigiliati (lilies, in Italian, and doesn't that fit us perfectly) are currently tied for third in the league table, holding onto Italy's final Champions League spot. As far as we can tell.

Montenegran striker Stevan Jovetic leads Fiorentina with 8 goals, despite only playing in 13 of the club's 18 Serie A matches. We're also partial to Azzuri stalwart Luca Toni, who's scored 6 times in just 9 matches since rejoining La Viola after stints with numerous high-level European clubs. Obviously, given our history, we like him because we can make a Tony! Toni! Toné! reference. Argentine defender Facundo Roncaglia has a fun name to say, too.

Bravo Gigiliati! And piss off, Trevor Mbakwe.

Doug Marrone...Bills saw a lot in that Pinstripe Bowl win.

Bet Zoltan can't wait for quotes like this, "I would like to direct this to the distinguished members of the panel: You lousy cork-soakers. You have violated my farging rights. Dis somanumbatching country was founded so that the liberties of common patriotic citizens like me could not be taken away by a bunch of fargin iceholes... like yourselves." at Bills pressers next year.

Jiggle-a-lot-i?

There was lots of positive chatter in favor of Marrone on Two Bills Drive, but most of the peoPle who post there are hopelessly optimistic. Can this hire really be worse than the previous 5.5?

zman said...

Marrone was named "America's Friendliest College Football Coach" by ESPN the Magazine. In light of that I'm all in.

Did you guys read the WaPo Magazine today? There's a band called Yacht Rcok Revue? They are playing at Maryland Live Casino next Saturday

Clarence said...

The band Three Sheets to the Wind is playing in Norfolk, VA on Jan 26. Get some.

rob said...

wow, that's some coincidence.

zman said...

Anyone else working today? No? How much hoopla did Ray Lewis get? Was there any mention of his murder charge?

rob said...

quiet, subdued tribute, as you might expect.

Danimal said...

Kinda working. Responding to emails and stuff. While i watch football. In miami. At a hotel. In a cabana. With a beer. And a cigar. And my wifes full support. Hopefully that is what you mean by working?

Mark said...

Danimal- if I send you and Rob a few BCS related questions via email do you think you can manage to get them answered for a BCS CG post?

Danimal said...

I will do my best.
Is Rob coming to game?
Yeah Ravens!

Mark said...

No. But Rob insists we believe he's. a passionate Bama fan. Whatever.

rob said...

haiku, danimal?

rob said...

and i'm not passionate about anything, mark. except filibuster reform. and overtime playoff hockey.

Danimal said...

Fine Rob. And you?

Mark said...

Your wife is going to be psyched to hear that, Rob.

rob said...

this is a family blog, for fuck's sake.

Mark said...

I don't know what that means.

zman said...

Filibuster? I hardly know 'er!

zman said...

Ray Lewis is praising God while rocking a Psalms 91 sleeveless tshirt. Does no one remember that he helped kill a man? Vick will never shake the dogfighting rep but Ray Lewis is made of Teflon.

zman said...

I just looked up Psalms 91 and, disappointIngly, it isn't the passage that Jules Winfield recites in Pulp Fiction.

Mark said...

I believe that's Ezekiel 20:13.

Skins look good. RG3 might day today though.

T.J. said...

Ray Lewis is a murderous piece of shit

So I just listed to the "Feels Good" for the first time in years and I'm struck by how much the horns sound like they came from the Creature Cantina. Raphael Saadiq wouldn't truck with that today.

Listening to Skins/Seahawks on an iPhone via 980 in a Florence apt. Vacation is the best.

T.J. said...

Sooooo...from what I'm hearing/reading, the Skins have a cripple at QB right now?

T.J. said...

Ouch, Skins.

Dave said...

skins have got to take rgIII out -- poor guy. and people will never forgive you if you hurt dogs. people? no big deal.

Dave said...

i told you so. one season and out for him b/c they played him when he was hurt.

zman said...

Ow ow ow ow ow

zman said...

Maybe he can borrow AP's knee.

Dave said...

i just replayed that knee injury from four weeks ago. egads.

Danimal said...

2nd qtr beginning now for danimal.
Mark...my goal is to have your questions answered by noon tomorrow.

Clarence said...

Everyone who is not a Skins fan can shit the fucking fuck up regarding RGIII and his knee. We know.

I watched the loss at a friend's house and got into a fender bender on the way home. With an off-duty cop. And had to run a field test.

Neat.

I passed! Let's celebrate little victories!! Hooray!!'

All hail the underdog.

I watched the game from a co-worker's laptop in a conference room. Rapidly approching hour 12 in same room.

nobody said writing the new egyptian constitution was going to be easy, greg. you hang in there.

I watched the game while having sex with a supermodel on top of a big pile of money.

Greg said...

You won't believe what passes for a bi-camel legislature in the Sinai.

rob said...

i see what you did there, greg.

rob said...

you, too, jerry.

well, i didn't really see it. that'd be weird.

no weirder than the whole sex-on-money thing, i guess, but to each his own.

zman said...

I was on top of Jerry. He was the Quimby.

Greg said...

I must confess, Robert that my prose is neither spare nor true.

Clarence said...

No subject is terrible if the story is true, if the prose is clean and honest, and if it affirms courage and grace under pressure.

Clarence said...

And also, thanks for all the well wishes for me not spending the night in the pokey. Maybe if I didn't relay it in such a d-bag way, I might've engendered some sympathy. Sorry about that.

Greg said...

Way to not spend the night in the ol' hoosegow, Clarence!!!

Greg said...

Also, Clarence, thanks for picking up the Hemingway reference. I feel affirmed.

Clarence said...

You're welcome, Greg. And thank you. I could say that I was afraid tonight, but all cowardice comes from not loving, or not loving well, which is the same thing. And when the man who is brave and true looks death squarely in the face like some rhino hunters I know, or Greg, who's truly brave. It is because they love with sufficient passion to push death out of their minds, until the return that it does to all men. And then you must make really good love again. Think about it.

Also, I was very afraid. Until I thought of Greg. And I would say Hi Gheorghies now, but it is not sufficiently late to say hello to you people.

T.J. said...

Morning gheorghies. Clarence, happy to hear you avoided jail.

Though the question needs to be asked: that late in the evening, with you obviously not at the top of your game, why was Kirk Cousins not handed the keys to guide you home?

zman said...

This sounds like a job for Lowell "The Hammer" Stanley.

The expected results of RG3's MRI, based on the level of media outrage, is that he has Phase 69 AIDS-Cancer of the knee. His knee will be taken to a vacant lot and blown up, and then buried at sea.

rob said...

in theory, a bcs preview is forthcoming. it promises to be whatever is the opposite of trenchant and insightful.

Jerry said...

According to Alabama and Notre Dame fans, these teams have combined for 669 national championships in the 125 seasons that college football has been played...

Clarence said...

...and twice as many Heisman trophies.

Danimal said...

Just hangin out. Drinking a beer and watchin some Maury.

Jerry said...

This is probably the first time that Fiorentina has been swapped out for Gophers basketball in any context.

lotta monkeys banging on typewriters out there, jerry.
