Your Own, Personal, Brewery

We're nothing if not generous here at G:TB, and in the spirit of giving, we offer our friends at Dumbarton's Beer (motto: Expect nothing and you won't be disappointed) a sneak peek at their Christmas gift. (Note: gift is contingent on G:TB generating the $4,500 required to purchase it via AdSense, sales of prescription drugs, or whoring out the Teej. They may have to settle for a 'Beer Thinker' t-shirt.)

From Wired.com comes the tale of the WilliamsWarn Personal Brewery. According to the author, the stainless steel WWPB will produce a ready-to-drink chilled pint in seven days.

The nation that brought us the Dyson vacuum (that might be England, but verification would require several clicks), the Haka, and the creative force behind Crowded House (this one I'm quite sure about) continues to deliver clever inventions that make life that much better. New Zealand might be on to something.

Not sure how you can mention influential New Zealanders and not bring up the Flight of the Conchords crew.

Further proof that we're old: no one made a 420 joke yesterday.

i didn't know what "420" meant 'til yesterday afternoon.

You guys keep covering beer and I might start writing about sports, music, and the New Jersey state education program.

$4500 buys a lot of beer at Trader Joe's. Or anywhere really. Seems like a lot to spend for one pint of beer a week, even if you get said pint per week in perpetuity.

But you also get social equity, Zman, albeit from likely only a select bunch of beer nerds. And the value of that intangible asset is hard to quantify.

The thing has a six gallon tank so I think the pint is just a servicng suggestion. A frat dad such as yourself would be able to crush at least 3 or 4 pints a week all while rocking the baby bijorn.

New Beasties video is pretty good.

The Beasties clearly cobbled together footage from the last time Marls, TR, and I rolled in the LES.

I never did ecstasy with either one of you!

I guess it was all a hallucination.

Jim Larranaga is a moron if he takes the Miami job.

I'm shocked TR hasn't tried this yet:

Teej - I agree that Miami is not a great long term move for Larranaga but I can see how it might make sense. Jimmy is 61 years old and currently making $525K from George Mason. Miami's last coach was getting $1.2 million.

If Larranaga says he only has a few years left (he has been coaching since 1971) why not play out the string in south Florida, with no personal income tax, for likely 3X the salary. Not a bad way to ride off into the sunset.

Marls echoed my thoughts exactly on Larranaga. But unlike me, he did it in a well-written way with some actual research.

Those are all excellent points.

Plus, the chicks are way hotter at Miami.

and he LOVES Mango's!!!! (the bar, not the fruit)

Even if Larranage was 31 years old he should make that move. Fairfax one big strip mall.

zman said...

Alternatively, Fairfax is one big strip mall.

rob said...

yes, but he's the king of fairfax

mayhugh said...

Being another "one big strip mall" resident, I can say Larranaga's contributions have been reaped. New recreation center, 600 new on campus residential apartments, new admin building, new parking garage, on-campus population up 30%since 2005. He's done enough here, he should have Miami CTC while he can.

TR said...

And let's not forget the Cuban whores.

zman said...

All the Cuban whores left Miami for Fairfax to be near Larranaga and Mayhuge.

commissioner bud says we'll have 10 teams in the mlb playoffs next year. somewhere, i'm going 'meh'...while bob costas silently weeps.

Marls said...

It appears that Fred Wilpon's request for a 30 team playoff was rejected.

Larranaga seems to be gone. I'm a little surprised, but I can see why he'd do it. As was pointed out here earlier, the coin he'll make at Miami will buy a beautiful condo in Del Boca Vista.

It's going to be a disaster though. Miami's a tough place to recruit and Larranaga's not getting the kind of kids who are intrigued by the U. Ask Larry Coker.
