What We Heard

As y'all know, the kidlet and I made a trans-continental road trip last week. In advance, I asked the assemblage for listening recommendations, and you came forward. And the kidlet showed up prepared, as well. So to get you into the new week, here's a quartet of playlists that'll get you rolling.

This one's from Whitney. It's a great mix of stuff that's not smack in the mainstream, deeper cuts from bands I love and stuff I didn't know. Got a lot of new out of it.

Zman came through with an entirely different vibe. Dig on African Funk Desert Blues Friday Morning.

Last, but definitely not least, the kid came prepared with her wide-ranging musical taste.

  2. Rob is a good man for replacing the bagels but ZMan is right about week old bread products.

I’m intrigued by LadyJamboni apparently purchasing a cream cake to store indefinitely on the off chance that a need presents itself. Seems that the effort needed to get a fresh ice cream cake would not warrant cake storage

  3. I’m in Edenton, NC touring the workforce / career and tech Ed facilities for the currently renovating John Holmes High School down here.

    Superintendent is a huge dick.

  4. Mr. J's Bagels is worth that trip, at least when groveling is required

  5. Music is good. Week old bagels are not.

I had a long week last week, and Friday afternoon realized that some buds of mine were playing a show that night. I'd filed in my mind as happening a week later. Despite really not feeling like leaving home, I dragged myself out. I even brought my neighbor, who squeezed his 6'9" frame into my tiny Honda Fit.

The opening band was punishingly loud in the room, and my buds who were headliners played well, but also too loud. The middle band was the highlight of the night for me, and I suggest checking out Prabir Trio from Richmond, VA. Really well done Indian Blues Indie Rock.

  6. Coincidentally, the singer in the Prabir Trio is Prabir Mehta, who’s also the singer in the Tom Petty tribute band Full Moon Fever who played my wedding last year. Good shit.

Also, congrats to Whitney on seeing the principal's dong?

  9. Sorry I missed that Whit. Well worth some props. Heard he was a hell of a decorator too. Or was that the super at Peter North HS?

  14. I’m in an Uber in Chicago and the driver is cranking what actually might be a copy of the Unit M party mix circa 1995.
