I won't make this longer or more difficult than it needs to be. Here are a handful of songs from my recent Shazams. I hope you enjoy them.
"Crossbow" by Tamar Aphek (she gets her own GTB label to incentivize more posts)
"Everybody's Talkin'" by Bill Withers (why didn't I know this song already?)
"Shake and Fingerpop" by Junior Walker and the All Starts (rootsy and I always fantasized about having a band like this play at Unit M)
"Orgiastic" by Stereolab (I never go looking for Stereolab but I'm always happy when I hear them)
"Whiskey Women and Loaded Dice" by Sticks McGhee (perfect title)
"Sweet Talker" by Big Blood (this whole album is worth your time)
"Louie Louie" by zdaughter (just remember that she's six)

mackenzie scott (nee bezos) married a science teacher from her kids' school. that dude's lifestyle is going to change just a bit.
Her philanthropic activity has been astounding. She is shaming Jeff by giving out billions. His contributions have been minuscule in comparison. Hopefully he’ll pick up the pace when he officially steps down as CEO.
I had never heard Bill Withers do Everybody's Talkin' before either. It's great.
Did Shazam get the Sticks McGhee tune right? It's In The Jailhouse Now with different words.
We probably could have found a good soul band out of Va Beach area had we been industrious enough to seek one out.
Zdaughter is doing pretty well for a six year old noob. Not sure if she'd feel inspired or intimidated by Miu Miu Guitar Girl on insta, but you might check her out. She's a young Chinese girl who plays incredibly well.
Is zShazam related to QShaman?
“Goin' where the weather suits my clothes“ is just a fantastic singer/songwriter lyric.
our soccer club hosted its annual college showcase for high school-aged kids. it's always a huge event - we got over 220 clubs from up and down the eastern seaboard even in a pandemic. i got to see some high-quality boys and girls soccer, which was cool. i also saw something (via video) i've never seen before.
at a u15 girls match, there was a pretty bad foul. a smallish midfielder from one of the teams absolutely cleaned out a girl on the other team with a late, hard challenge. she was whistled for a foul and yellow carded. as the players reset for the free kick, a bigger girl from the team that was fouled got in the face of the offending player and gave her a two-handed shove in the chest. the little midfielder didn't bat an eye - she threw two overhand rights, at least one of which connected. it turned into a dogpile in the middle of the field with parents running in to intervene.
i've seen physicality and even fights on soccer and lacrosse fields before, but i've never seen it happen with girls. shit was craaazy.
and that's my international women's day story.
and i echo tr's thoughts on mackenzie scott. her philanthropic efforts have been remarkable.
Little Lady Z could be the next Courtney Love if she keeps it up!
would've been nice if Mackenzie gave out $900 MM more last year, but I guess a cool $6 B is okay.
Unrelated, but I need to make a confession. I have almost zero understanding of the filibuster process, budget reconciliation and the whys/hows regarding how these regulations could change. Seem to be an important topic these days, but when they start talking about it, I can feel my IQ dropping like a stone and my attention span fading.
And I still don't believe that cloture is a real word. I dislike that word almost as much as I dislike the word moist. There, I said it.
Cloture, I hardly know 'er! CDC says I really can eat at indoor restaurants:

2FB&2BL is happening on Saturday. I'll let you know how it pans out.
I'd only heard the Harry Nilsson version of "Everybody's Talkin'." Bill Withers' is way different and excellent. Nice pull.
they want it to be opaque, tr, so we meekly assume our positions and don't demand anything from them. read adam jentleson's 'kill switch' for a thorough exposition of the history of the filibuster (spoiler alert: its modern form has nothing to do with what it was initially contemplated to be).
i always preferred bobby brown's 'everybody's talkin' all the stuff about me, why don't they just let me live?'
It's your prerogative to prefer that one, Rob. I'm giving Bill Withers the nod, and not holding all the bad versions of Use Me that I've ever heard against Bill.
dak prescott getting paiiiiiiid. good for him.
stereolab! love me some beeps and boops . . .
Elon going to the CAA Finals. Beat Hofstra by 18.
