Inspiration from Random Places

During this downtime, we will all have to find things to occupy our interest . . .

Some will listen to podcasts. Some will listen to music. Some will make music. Maybe Dave and I will have a quarantine song-off.

Some of us will watch movies. Others will make movies. I can only hope.

Some will do push-ups. Others will build a homemade pull-up bar.

Some will really return to their childhood days. They will play card games and board games and hide-and-seek.

Even others will play with matchbox cars.

This is a photo from my living room:
1969 Butternut Yellow Chevy Impala Convertible
The interior is white, not black, but short of that, this is my WCSAGD.

Get some, gheorghies.

That’s faaaantastic. Excellent WCSAGD effort by you.

As far as getting some goes, this quarantine thing would be great if I didn’t have kids. Nooners during the day, Netflix at night, lots of room so spread out and do my work, catastrophe mustache on fleek. Instead I’m teaching zdaughter to read between conference calls, negotiating the purchase of a house (I have significant leverage—good luck showing it so someone nowadays—and a microscopic mortgage rate), and trying to keep zson from tearing the house down. Everyone sleeps in and thus goes to bed late. Luckily no major fights yet but no one has any alone time.

And TR will disagree with me, but in response to rob’s comment in the previous post about Burr and Loeffler, they likely broke the law. Particularly Burr, who appears to have moved half his net worth out of stocks right before the drop. Maybe his funds are in a blind trust, maybe his financial advisor did it without asking and without a tip from Burr. Who knows. But facially this is a horrible look for both of them and I would not want to be in either of their shoes in front of a jury of 12 angry men and women.

And this might answer TR’s questions: 18 months and never.

Those nerds at MIT don't know nothing.

And I don't disagree the senators broke the law. But may be hard to pin it on them.

rob said...

those senators are rich (loeffler) and powerful (barr). we'd go to jail if we did what they did. except for danimal - that dude knows people. but they won't have shit for consequences until president biden steps aside for vice president warren and she goes all 'regulators, mount up' on their asses.

folks, the bot is learning...she's now "clarabenten69" and talkin' bout "sexy time"

rootsminer said...

Uh oh, a sentient bot. I wonder if it's behind the email I got this morning demanding 4K payment via bitcoin or my whole family would become infected with coronavirus.

my kidlet just left the house to get her first tattoo. so she's taking this whole no school thing pretty hard.

TR said...

Another insane Trump presser. Let’s focus on creating fear of illegal immigrants.

Mark said...

Getting a tattoo at this time is a pretty bold choice.

i just ran 4 miles in 40 minutes, going easy. decent pace for me. air quality is really good right now . . .

finished mixing another song this morning as well.

great time to get a tattoo! will be memorable.

This is very long and it won't make you feel better, but TR asked for it.

Yeah - that article sucks.

Dave said...

wait, tattoo parlors are still open?

zman said...

In VA. Dadgum libruls won’t deprive the Commonwealth of their raht to git tatted.

rob said...

the tattoo parlor is only allowing one customer into the shop at a time. so they're at least taking some precaution.

All restaurants in Florida are officially closed for anything other than take out.

It’s 88° here. People would ordinarily be at the beach. Not many are.

TR said...

I spent an hour getting sun in my backyard. Was close to 75. Wife is demanding dirty martinis going forward. It’s a slippery slope. After one, she’s fun drunk. After two, she is wasted.

rob said...

i just hosted a virtual happy hour via video conference for my team, which is spread across the country. it was surprisingly fun. and we needed it.

zman said...

A flock of knuckleheads and their children have set up shop on my street complete with lawnchairs and a cooler. This happens all the time and it's a nice thing to do when there isn't a pandemic going on.

Whitney said...

What platform did you use for the virtual happy hour?

Squeaky said...

It's the 'covfefe-19' teleconference platform.

Squeaky said...

Our town just sent out a notice to all residents to watch out for a scam. Supposedly, two people were driving around our town dressed in hazmat suits and knocking on peoples doors to offer free coronavirus testing. People actually let them into their homes. WTF. They ended up stealing a bunch of easily accessible values while 'testing' the homeowners. Stupidity on both parts.

rob said...

our company just switched to microsoft teams. it’s a versatile platform, though we’ve had some bandwidth challenges. had 50 people on video for this call and it went pretty well.

TR said...

Hahaha - covfefe-19.

Somebody on my block called the cops b/c a pack of 8-10 kids were playing together closely. Two of the kids appear to be grandkids of an elderly couple on the block. Who the fuck visits an elderly parent today, and then lets their kids run with a herd of kids in the street? A dildo. That’s who.

A neighbor of mine and I were psyched to see cops breaking things up. Our kids are not allowed to play two-square w/ other kids. They just shoot hoops in front of our house, throw a football around with me, bike around the neighborhood and walk the dog.

Whitney said...

No new pro/college sports memories being made these days. Just watched Ken Griffey Jr round third and make it home in 1995. Pretty good still.

TR said...

I was at Rootsy’s house in the mountains when that happened. Was during Fall Break. Dagger moment for a Yankee fan.

zman said...

The flock of knuckleheads grew to a herd of about 30+ people including kids, across at least 8 different families. Even if the adults were always 6 feet apart, which they weren't, the kids were all over each other and sharing their familial germs. So those eight families are one big family now, epidemiologically speaking. Neat!

rootsminer said...

I didn’t recall that coincidence TR, though I remember well your astonishment at the civil war vibe of a farmville va gas station/cstore/redneck emporium. At least it was better than the next fall, when I let a cville townie in your van and the cops found his his schwagstache after the late night highway deer incident.

Mark said...

Pretty great scene in Z’s neighborhood.

We went across the street to the beach late afternoon/early evening. It’s not a public beach. Semi private access between two beachfront homes. I anticipate a lot of time spent there in the foreseeable future.

rob said...

if you haven't seen the video ali farokmanesh and his family released via colorado state, i insist that you find it. it's brilliant and warm and awesome.

rootsminer said...

Nice option to have, Mark.

Anyone else find the incessant email marketing appendix to this thing distasteful?

Mark said...

It is, Roots. Between that, our pool and the unseasonably warm Florida weather we’ll be spending a lot of time outside and in the water. The trick will be for me to not drink like it’s the weekend on these many non weekend days.

Dave said...

hola gheorghies--

wow. lots of different takes on this. I've been to several zoom happy hours today, and then a real happy hour on a porch with people who have significantly different takes than the norm on quarantining. not sure where i stand . . . if i could stand

TR said...

Wife and I did a Zoom happy hour w/ another couple tonight. Instead of making a full second batch of martinis, we made halfsies. Saved us and kept us coherent.

We’re on to Season 8 of The Office. Hard to stay motivated for the Spader era.

Marls said...

It’s good to see that Dave breaks etiquette even in lockdown.

Hola Gheorghies and Dave.

rob said...

somwhere in the darkness, kenny rogers broke even. pour some out.
