John Paul Keith (not to be confused with FOGTB John-Paul) is a Memphis-based musician with a new album, "Heart Shaped Shadow," that deserves your attention. Sometimes he sings straightforward self-deprecating sad country songs like this:

Memphis has surely produced and/or nurtured as much prodigous musical talent, if not more than, any other American city.

Not sleepin' on any of those cats (I really dig The Isley Bros), but my Memphis list could go on for days. I just picked those three because of their cool names and divergent genres. Shankles Floyd was better known as Harmonica Frank, but still a fairly obscure figure.
Rootsy is hating on Jersey.
Cankles Wilson is no Shankles Floyd, but she was the heart and soul of Wilson Phillips.

Very shrewd of the NFL to schedule the Washington football club to play on Columbus Day, the one day a year that people of Native American dissent universally protest the usage of the traditional symbols of indigenous peoples for costume or other thoughtless display. Well played.

A few times a year (3 times for me since July) without fail I have random run-ins with old friends in airports, hotels, airport hotels, baseball stadiums, golf courses, golf tournaments. Today was one such day, and I only bring it to your attention b/c many know the man - McGoo, Erin - lobby of a hotel in Scottsdale, AZ. My wife thinks it's strange it happens so often. But is it really? I think if we all kept our eyes open and expected it, it would happen a lot more.
