Nash Town

Told recently were you all that I had a post but failed to save and am thus unable to retrieve it anywhere. And I've tried. It told of my recent trip to NashVegas involving loads of travel problems (who cares?), many hours at airport bars (you care), meeting people who know my people from college days at said airport bars, and a night of honky tonkin' that had me making friends with one of the bands who had me sing a few verses at Tootsies, the most famous of the honky tonks, where if I had shown up a mere 15 minutes earlier rather than patronizing Layla's, which is right next door (they share a wall!) I would have seen Dave Grohl and a Zac Brown guitarist perform 2 songs before disappearing into the night. No idea who the band was that I watched at Tootsie's for no less than a couple of hours, but they were good. It was all covers - everything from Ratt to Waylon Jennings and all in-between. It was stellar. They played on the first floor. The stage is right next to the front door where I stationed myself early on with every intent to get the hell out of there. But they just kept playing good stuff. I tipped 'em a few times, became pals, sang a verse here and there, and before long was being referred to as this guy.....

...Chuck Goodman, by the band front man. I laughed. No one else knew who the hell he was talking about. I must have looked really tired. Other highlights were my meals at Biscuit Love, a rec by our good friend Mark, and Whiskey Kitchen. How could I not eat a joint called Whiskey Kitchen? Exactly. Our waitress who was a doll was (is currently) the backup singer for Tom Kiefer of Cinderella fame. Yeah, he still tours. She gave us the ins and outs of going on the road as a backup singer. Quite interesting. For about 4 minutes.

So that my friends is a very abridged version of my Nashville trip that delved into Park City, Utah too. Give me too Utah!, two firsts for the kid, but hopefully not the lasts.

How I failed to mention High West Distillery in Park City is telling. As the name denotes, they make their own whiskeys...a half dozen or more if memory serves at all. Great stuff too. I had my first Sazerac. With nothing to compare it to it was far and away the best one ever to touch my lips. But a memorable drink, period. I'd give it a 9 out of 10. You'd think with "Distillery" in the name it would be simply that. No siree...I had trout, the best trout I've ever eaten. A TR recommendation, seconded by yours.

I had an epic meal at High West about three years ago, when I was snowboarding in Park City. Me, a high school buddy and official friend of G:TB Derek B feasted there. The post-mean whiskey flight was very cool. Nothing like treating yourself to a big, fat meal after a great day on the slopes.

Episode 2. Alexandra Daddario. Que fantastico!

The fantasticoness of that scene cannot be overstated. There's a GIF of the key moment and it's hypnotic.

Season 2 starts on Sunday. It can't be as good as season 1 but I'll watch nonetheless. Hopefully they'll run that Daddario scene again just because.

I loved Season 1 and am pumped for Season 2 though I agree with Zman that it probably won't be as good. With that said, I didn't love the Season finale. For me the highlight was the final scene of episode 4. I think I watched it an additional 5 times that week.

Guess I should check out True Detective since it's only in Season 2. Speaking of 2s. I've made it to the ER in back to back weeks. Son woke up at 3:15AM and after trip to the ER of course has strep.

Google robot, a hamburger is not a sandwich. At least not in my book.

Season 2 will be completely unrelated to season 1 so you can start watching now without any continuity problems.

Draymond Green was very drunk at the Warriors championship parade. It's great sound.

Also, Shlara tweeted out a pic from the NBAPA top 100 camp last night. I'm going to have to beg her for a credential to that next summer. That's a basketball/recruiting nerd's dream.

zman said...

They're no John Thompson.

Or Kiley and the Coach.

SVP & Russillo was the only sports talk radio, or any radio show for that matter, that I've ever listened to religiously. I was a little bummed today if I'm being honest.

Mike and the Mad Dog was fantastic in its prime.
