Unfathomable Bravery

The only words really necessary - and capable of conveying the scope and scale of our debt - are "thank you".

Took today off and ditched the kid with my parents for the day/night. Going to spend the afternoon daydrinking on the beach.

That is damn patriotic of you. I am going to see a cover band that attended our alma mater with some of the younger guys.

LinkedIn is creepy. Somehow the justice of the peace that married me to zwoman appeared at the top of my "people you might know" list. Do they troll through marriage licenses to make these lists?

Ever wonder what would happen if Rod Laver and Stan Smith had a lovechild?

OhGodOhGodOhGod. I must have those.

rob said...

oh, shit. that's dope.

zman said...

Boris Diaw was +30 last night?!

Mark said...

Boris Diaw is awesome at basketball. So skilled. Most underrated passer in the league. Totally lazy.

zman said...

Last time Nadal played Djokovic at Roland Garros they went all the way to a 9-7 5th set so Sunday's match should be another slugfest. I'll root for Nadal because a 9th French title for him is more palatable than a career slam for Djokovic.

rob said...

9 fucking titles!

zman said...

In a row?

rob said...

in the family jewels?

zman said...

Try not to suck too many titles on your way to the parking lot.

TR said...

"My girlfriend sucked 37 dicks!"

"In a row?"

TR said...

Hmm. I may be a little late on this joke.

zman said...

You're number 37.

Shlara said...

Well, hello haed coach Quin Snyder--back on the "head coach hottie" list. Glad to see he's clawing his way back to the top. He's nice to look at.

rob said...

fact that i learned today that i probably should've already known: (got more rhymes than) j.d. ('s got) salinger carried the first six chapters of catcher in the rye with him as he landed on utah beach on d-day.

zman said...

That's Sargeant X to you.

rob said...

i kinda dig the beats world cup ad:

Halep showed a ton of heart in that second set tiebreaker. Almost enough to make me root for her over sharapova. Almost.

rob said...

just paid $17 for a six-pack of beer and couldn't be happier about it. ballast point sculpin is an incredible ipa - get some.

Clarence said...

Bought a case of Natty Light for less. I'm okay with that.

rob said...

time and a place for everything. eagerly awaiting overserving myself on red stripe soon.

Danimal said...

Heading out to my first soccer game ever. United States of America soccer program!

zman said...

If you feed your lawn yourself and use a drop spreader, step your game up to a rotary spreader. It's life changing.

mayhugh said...

Mark - you think the Sergio/Cotto fight is worth getting? I'm thinking yes.

Mark said...

I agree, Mayhugh. Watched all the 24/7s this week. I'm all in.

rob said...

unimpressive first 20 for the usmnt. i blame danimal.

Clarence said...

I gave someone's mom a rotary spreader.

Mark said...

Nice to see Jozy get off the schneid. Twice. Also, Michael Bradley is fanfuckingtastic.

Clarence said...

And in too clever by half comments, today we salute Bruce McGill. Whereabouts unknown.

Danimal said...

In your face you commie bastard

Clarence said...

And by today I mean yesterday. And by I'm sober I mean I've been drinking since noon yesterday and I'm probably not. And tomorrow is Rob's birthday so get shopping.

rob said...

clarence pioneering a new poetry style known as 'shitfaced haiku'.

although you really should get shopping. i wear a smedium t-shirt. the new york city fc gear is pretty fly.

Mark said...

The only soccer gear I'd buy you is of the Orlando City variety. That's not happening though.

zman said...

I expected that rob would support some Romanian side.

rob said...

fc cluj!

zman said...

The prime knit Stan Smiths are $160 so you'll have to ask your wife for those.

rob said...

i generally support dc united in the domestic league, but i'm not averse to whoring myself around, gearwise, in mls. and dc united's stuff is pretty boring.

rob said...

i stand corrected: it's cfr cluj. the railwaymen.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CFR_Cluj

zman said...

I stand corrected is a good song. Don't know about Cluj.

zman said...

Is Cluj shorthand for Cliff?

rob said...

cfr cluj has an intense rivalry with universitatea cluj. their matches are known as the derby of cluj. which i assume means they play for some sort of hat.

zman said...

Better than a derby of splooge. I once used the word splooge in a veering, as a verb. I was young.

zman said...

Veering = meeting

rob said...

do tell, z. context?

Mark said...

I showed my wife a pic of those Stan Smith's yesterday. She wants Amir of her own. She's not getting any (from me) but she can't protest my purchase now.

Clarence said...

Rob actually wears a Boys Large, which makes it easy if you want to give him superhero stuff.

Wondering if all GTBers understand the significance of Cluj. Might need some remedial Gheorghe training.

Clarence said...

And being friends with people means you admire their passions even when you don't understand them. I got mine. You guys and your sneakers, drive on.

rob said...

i think it's pretty cool that mark's open to his wife wanting an arab dude

rob said...

wolverine is my favorite superhero, in case you guys are still shopping

Mark said...

West Virginia got a basketball commitment from a guy named Billydee Williams. Greg approves. Shit, we all approve.

Mark said...

She's actually a big Amir Johnson fan. She has a thing for athletic, stretch 4s.

Mark said...

So that's it, huh? I mention a Toronto Raptors role player and everyone is out? Ok.

This hockey game is quite entertaining.

rob said...

rangers are flopping like a serie a squad

rob said...

and sorry, mark, i've been focused on finding myself a canada women's national team jersey. long story.

rob said...

steve nash just retweeted me. i can die happy now.

Shlara said...

hockey playoffs--pretty exciting, huh?
I want the Rangers to win the Cup. I like Brian Boyle and that Dom Moore kid--his story is just heart-breaking. He needs this.

rob said...

rooting for new york? i don't even know who you are, shlara.

Shlara said...

Rob--tell me you're cheering for the kings? Just 'cause you're BFF with Steve Nash doesn't mean you need to go all Hollywood...

And, I still think it's funny to see Keith Jones on these broadcasts...he played for the Caps back in the day. Quiet dude, never would have predicted he'd be on TV.

Mark said...

I worked for the Lightning for half of the 2004 season. Met Marty St. Louis during my time there. Awesome guy. I'm rooting for him, and thus the Rangers.

rob said...

i'm not so much rooting for the kings as i am rooting against the rangers. i root against new york teams as a matter of course.

rob said...

but i've always really liked st louis. and just read the dom moore story. so now i'm pretty conflicted.

TR said...

Wife and I got "in the zone" for movie night and watched the second Hunger Games. Fun flick. Poor Peta is such a bitch.

Mark said...

You and your wife took Molly to watch a movie, TR? Ok then. Jersey strong!!

zman said...

I'm drunker that all of you. Gotate.

Clarence said...

Ain't no way, Z. Ain't no way.

Clarence said...

I just watched the yacht rock band that played at our wedding deliver a very silly set at Harborfest. And then my wife had them all sign a Three Sheets to the Wind print. I enjoy my life.

Clarence said...

Mark likes Martin St. Louis and the St. Louis Cardinals. Not quite Jerry's excellent theory of Rob liking all teams with red ("Why don't you just get an Yzerman sweater and call it a day" is one of the better quips to ever get punted into the blogosphere), but it's interesting. Mark does look like Charles Lindbergh...

Mark said...

I currently have a really, really good hockey beard going. If the playoffs lasted 6 months.

Marls said...

Hola Georghies.

Fuck the Rangers.

Marls said...

Steve Coburn's rant was very unGheorghe. Not surprising for a person from California.

Marls said...

BTW, New York City FC is 20% owned by the Yankees. I'm happy to pick up a onesie for you Rob if you don't mind supporting the coffers of the Steinbrenner clan.

Clarence said...

T Marls, how's she blowin'?

Clarence said...

Marls, Three Sheets played American Girl. Not yacht rock?

Mark said...

Pretty early Hola Gheorghies by Marls. Consider Us disappointed.

Dave said...

hey gheorghies!

hockey is very silly

Clarence said...

Perhaps Marls is in Spain. Which would be impressive. But not to Spaniards.

Marls said...

Not yacht rock. You need to tell Topper that he has lost the Smooth.

Marls said...

Not in Spain. Just enjoying being over served in NYC for the last few weeks before moving to the Old Dominion.

Clarence said...

Get it out of your system up there. We don't drink much in Virginia.

Clarence said...

Dave says hockey is very silly, presumably because it's played on ice.

What he believes is not silly is climbing across a highway overpass naked while hammered, also on ice as it was frozen over. Not silly.

Clarence said...

Hi Gheorghies. Looking like my comrades petered out early. I sympathize with you, but it doesn't mean I don't pity you.

Marls said...

Who is this Peter guy you speak of?

Clarence said...

Most people's "hi Gheorghies" are seeing who's up. Dave's = "good night."

Marls said...

Maybe he should use "Aloha Gheorghies".

Clarence said...

I have nothing left in my arsenal. Adieu, mon gheorghies.

Marls said...

Bon chance, Clarence.

zman said...

Changing a poopie diaper while hungover is not enjoyable. Watching low grade Thomas and Friends videos narrated by Alec Baldwin (?!) is.
