Yet More Definitive Footy Takes

You got the kit takes, and on the first day of the 2026-27 Premier League season (Holders Arsenal host newcomers Coventry City at 3:00, live on USA), you get another definitive analysis. I offer you the GTB vibes-based Premier League predicted order of finish.

First, a few opinions from the experts:

Opta is a analytical outfit that uses data to model predicted outcomes. Here's their take.

Three of NBC's pundits offer their opinion.

Finally, the BBC weighs in here.

I crunched the numbers to see how our vibes compared with the experts, and a few things stood out.

In this view, the higher the number, the better the expected finish. 20 for first, 19 for second, down to 1 for 20th and last.

We are more bullish than the experts about Liverpool, Leeds, Sunderland, and Fulham (not saying much - the experts are not high on the Cottagers) and generally more bearish about Man City (we're right on this one, hear me now and believe me later), Forest, and Newcastle. And now we've got a way to track our gut. Game on!

  1. Rob, I was referring to Greg Sankey’s affidavit in support of the NCAA trying to block pros from returning to play in college - in direct opposition to the petition of some SEC schools. Suddenly the “academic experience” is sacrosanct to Mr. Sankey…that is until the SEC needs to ignore academics so the SEC can make more money.

  3. errata: we're also higher on villa than the punditry. management regrets the oversight.

  4. Where is the G:TB vibes factor coming from? Is there a supercomputer at G:TB headquarters crunching comment sentiment? I, for one, am a lot more pessimistic about this edition of the Toon than the Vibes.

  5. Yes, lower than two above the relegation line. Shitcanning a quality manager and deciding to play without a midfield seems like a bad idea.

  6. it's pretty sophisticated, timmy, but the gist of it is that i am the receptacle of the vibes i feel emanating from the broader gheorgieverse. i channel the collective vibe-will and spit out the results. which implies that somebody is bullish on the toon - just don't ask me to identify him. or her.

  7. So you are sorta like the WOPR.

The person high on the Toon must be a Gamma Phi

  10. So Z's Norwich City and Teej's Bolton are in Championship level. I'm stuck with my namesake in League One. All the other gheorghies are in the Premier League?
