It got cold here all of a sudden, and snow may be falling on some of you. You know where it's warm... and summer? Australia!
You all know quite a bit about rock and roll. If I asked you to name some Australian bands, you'd hit me with AC/DC, INXS, Hoodoo Gurus, Midnight Oil, and Men at Work. Deeper picks would include The Church or Nick Cave. Marls would say Air Supply. Rob would say Crowded House but he'd be mostly wrong, as the Finns are Kiwis. Only TR would likely get LRB.
Little River Band! They were atop the charts from 1977-1981 nonstop with their brand of light rock / soft rock / not rock / smooth music. People of our vintage have heard all their hit songs, they probably just couldn't name the band who played them.
In the interest of spreading the love of good music, we will throw out six suggested songs by certain bands you may or may not know much about. Not much of a time commitment, just a little something to get the flavor and get you going.
Gheorghe's 6-Pack: Little River Band (LRB)
VitalsWhere: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
When: 1975–present
Who: (now) Wayne Nelson, Chris Marion, Rich Herring, Ryan Ricks, Colin Whinnery...
The original members who write and sang the songs you know include Glenn Shorrock, Beeb Birtles (excellent name), Graeham Goble (ditto), and Derek Pellicci
Don't be thinking that I don't want a beer right now, 'cause lady, I do. Enjoy.
"Help Is On Its Way," Diamantina Cocktail, 1977
"Reminiscing," Sleeper Catcher, 1978
"Lady," Sleeper Catcher, 1978
"Lonseome Loser," First Under the Wire, 1979
"Cool Change," First Under the Wire, 1979
"Take It Easy On Me," Time Exposure, 1981

a bit chuffed that my friend thinks that i don't know that the finns are kiwis (the danes are kurdish). that's common knowledge amongst us househeads, my man.
not actually chuffed, though. rather miffed instead, and also at the fact that i thought chuffed meant irritated.
Hey—happy birthday, Shlara. Sry a day late.
And did any of you see the news that Richmond, VA, has been named #1 city for craft beer in the world? Is that crazy?
tribe alum and nascar exec (and son of joe) j.d. gibbs passed away this morning from a degenerative neurological condition. he was 49. man.
Jesus. That’s horrible.
I went on a double date with that guy my freshman year. A couple of chi omegas, JD, and me and his Camaro. Two door. I sat in the back.
That’s a brutal loss for the Gibbs family.
Speaking of six packs, zwoman and zson were out running errands which included a trip to the liquor store for mommy’s medicine. Whilst perusing the food section of the liquor store zson saw and demanded a six pack of kabanosy. You can take the boy out of Hungary but you can’t take the Hungary out of the boy. Or something like that.
can one of you people with teenage kids ask them what the fuck TikTok is. thanks
So I went by urgent care today. Have been having headaches all week. Other than a night out with Weav in OBX, a pretty mellow week, so not from boozing. Anyway, I happen to have a blood pressure monitor at the house since I used to date a nurse. I checked it out today as I used to take meds for that. I had been running about 144/77 some years back and that was too high. Today I was 191/113. Holy lord mother of God. I’m back on the meds, needless to say. At least it explains the headaches.
Live well... but not too well.
This snow looks to make the playoff game fun.
I love snow games. My friends and I used to make our games snow games on Madden back in its early days.
Speaking of the NFL, I’m terrible at betting on the NFL so I stay away for the most part. Also, because its better for me and my family if I only place wagers once a weekend and I’m better at CFB betting.
Anywho, I went 3 for 3 on playoff games last week since I had no CFB to bet on. I stayed away from Chicago-Philly because I had no clue what would happen. This week I’m on KC (too many people love Indy- the line has dropped to 4.5) and Dallas +7. I’m sure I’ll go ofer today. Because, like I said, I’m terrible at NFL betting.
whit, dude. in the words of lloyd christmas, don't you go dying on me.
LRD is basically high end yacht rock, no?
And Holy Crap Whit - glad you are treating that. A few weeks ago when I went to the ER with my annual kidney stone, my first (and highest) reading was 175/115; they kept the cuff on me and every 20 minutes when it re-tested the little machine alarm went bing-bong.
I'm trying to manage mine through diet - I cut out coffee, deli meats, and [most] cheese - and it's working so far but I don't know how sustainable this is. There are nutritionists out there that might be able to help with the long term if you're looking to not take medicine every day.
I’m surprised by this. I’ve continued to keep my weight down and my exercise up. I think I am destined to take the meds. Getting old... no picnic.
And LRB is so Yacht Rocky
I like the Progressive insurance commercials.
And Whit, what was your bp before the health kick?
Kc bet looking good early.
Teej - my 11 y/o says it’s like an easier form of Snapchat.
my 14 y/o says it's stupid. also says i'm stupid, so take that for what it's worth.
I assume Hannibal Lecter was a major initial investor in TikTok.
Really though, aren’t all these apps stupid?
my browser is telling me that gtb is not secure. which one of you is responsible for our cybersecurity program?
all our beta cat wants to do is be friends with our alpha cat. and all our alpha cat wants to do is smack our beta cat around. it's sad. kinda like lindsay graham and donald trump.
All our bulldog wants to do is be friends with our Alpha cat. All the cat wants to do is smack the dog in the face.
She existed in a house with two male pit bulls. She doesn’t respect this young female bulldog at all. At all.
nick collison is getting his number retired. i find this a very cool move on the part of the thunder.
I get it with regard to Collison but that’s a bit much, IMO. Should the Magic retire Darrel Armstrong’s number?
Yes.
And the Wizards should retire Gheorghe’s number.
This is actually a fun exercise - have the Suns retired Majerle’s jersey? Have the Pacers done a double Davis jersey retirement?
collison played 14 years with the sonics/thunder and no other franchise, and was reportedly a big part of the community. i get it.
and gheorghe should absolutely get his number retired. we should do it here. nobody is allowed by wear 77 when we play, unless it's a gheorghe jersey.
My wife and I are kidless tonight. We’re already home but when we were out we ran into my wife’s first husbands second (now ex) wife. My wife and her took a selfie and posted it on IG with a bit of a trolling hashtag. Can’t knock the hustle.
there's a lot going on in that comment, but i'm here for it.
my wife and kids gave me a spherical ice mold for christmas for use in drinking whiskey. i'm using it with some stuff that marls bought me. it seems to be working.
Quite a lot going on. One day I’ll regal you with all those tales over a few, Rob. I’m having a bit of whiskey now myself. Rooting for the Cowboys isn’t fun.
Had a neighbors night out tonight. Six couples. Just got home cuz one of the wives felt compelled to forego another hour of babysitting time (as she is currently spending tens of thousands to get her house re-decorated bc she can't do it herself and while her husband, a terrific human being super genius mayo doc who works his ass off is content with his situation) had to get home. My wife drove as she is under the weather but was all in, teaming it out.
I always found her to be super lame as does anyone that knows her, but damn, I dislike her immensely.
She never offered to get an uber home and we wouldn't ask them to. Can you tell I'm peeved.
Mark...we need a post on this guy, who is on his way towards a 3rd wife.
Drinking a TX whiskey.
hello gheorghies!
i am not hungover but i am eating beef jerky. does not bode well . . .
wow. should not be cavalierly mentioning consumption of beef jerky. sorry. whit, do not eat any beef jerky.
just got back from a fun get-together at my buddies house. his son has cp and is an amazing percussionist. we always play together. despite the cp, this kid is an exceptional drummer. tonight we convinced everyone to sing along while we played. everyone should always sing along.
