Come Together

Yesterday in London, the Washington Wizards beat the New York Knicks, 101-100, in a regular season NBA contest. In somewhat Knicksian fashion, Washington's buzzer-beating winner came courtesy of a goaltending call, as Allonzo Trier swatted Thomas Bryant's layup away while it was descending into the cylinder.

That was neat, and all, but it paled in comparison to a most excellent collision of Gheorghie things that took place earlier that day. Including the most Gheorghie thing of all, Gheorghe.

Some enterprising Wizards staffer (a next-generation Shlara or KQ, if you will), thought it a good idea to recreate the image from The Beatles' iconic Abbey Road album cover, with Gheorghe, G:TB fave Elena Delle Donne, Bradley Beal, and Wizards mascot G-Wiz comprising an entirely new Fab Four.

I always did see Ghitsa as the Paul McCartney of the team. He's Maxwell's Silver (tongued) Hammer.

Here's a little bit of behind the scenes magic:

  4. i thought about making that a tag for this post, but i couldn't bring myself to type it. i guess some of us aren't superstitious.

  5. One of my wife’s biggest customers is a meal prep company that caters largely to CrossFit/bodybuilding types. They’re the food provider for a huge CrossFit competition in Miami at Bayfront Park this weekend. She’s here helping make sure the weekend goes well.

I’m down here as well because why not take a free weekend in Miami. Holy shit this is an unreal amount of CrossFit fanatics.

I just got in town about a half hour ago and she’s still got work to do so I’m on my way to Wynwood to get drunk with my old college roommates.

  6. do some burpees in between beers.

  7. Just finished dinner at Alter in Wynwood. One of my favorite restaurants in America. If you’re in Miami you should go there. I plan on sleeping in tomorrow.

  8. i'm very proud of my post today at Park the Bus. It tackles some important issues:

  9. Congrats, Dave. That is the weirdest post ever.

    ReplyDelete
  10. And they aren’t round.

    “Not unless round is funny.”
That’s an obscure movie quote for Zman.

  11. i''m convinced that the sole reason dave went longform was to set up that post. he's been dying to brag on his calves for years.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I initially figured he was talking about his pecs.

    ReplyDelete
  13. No offense Dave, but my calves are far superior. And my quads are pretty amazing too. You may be adversely impacted by all that hair masking the calves’ definition.

I came out of the womb squatting 225. Unfortunately, I also came out with a very weak upper body. This combo did not help me as a middle school wrestler.

There’s a commercial running now w/ a cyclist in front of the Statue of Liberty who has exaggeratedly large calves. My wife says it makes her think of me. Probably not in a “I’m getting moist downstairs” kinda way.

  14. Good God these people love them some CrossFit.

    ReplyDelete
  15. oh, i'm taking offense, tr. we're going to have to have a calf-off.

    ReplyDelete
  16. if you jersey gheorghies want to hang out with me this evening, i'll be at a gymnastics competition in trenton. you can peep my perfectly proportional and sculpted calves.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think I should throw my calves into this conversation being a life-long off and on cyclist, runner, and all around athlete. That's about all I got going on though, other than my pecs (man-boobs). I need to get on the Whitney train.
Anyone watching the Duke UVa game tonight?

  18. And where has Igor been? He die?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Igor and Clarence retired to New Orleans.

  20. Some serious calves (and thighs) in downtown Miami this weekend. This CrossFit event is fucking enormous.

  21. Ramblin Wreck did not come to play today.

  22. Nelson aka Quadzilla has you all beat.

  23. Getting ready to go out for the evening. Checked my look in the mirror, as Bruce sang. My beard is pretty full, I’m wearing the old man hat that I set about buying, and I’ve got a nice but pretty loud shirt on. The first thing that came to mind when I looked at my reflection was “I fucking look like Mike Love. Wtf.

  24. tribe looks worse than that, if it’s any consolation. about to lose at home to a team with only one league win coming into the game. we aren’t very good.

    ReplyDelete
  25. At least they’re consistent.

  26. I should’ve opened a brewery.

    ReplyDelete
  27. you’re still a young man, ken. still got time.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The question is whether the brewery market is too saturated at this point. But let’s talk about what the “Mr. KQ Brew” would be like.

    ReplyDelete
  29. well, it would open at 7:00 so patrons could watch rugby live. and the beers would include a lot of mad hoppy hazy stuff. killer jukebox, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  30. ian, catherine and i just watched "the conjuring." scary as shit. we can only watch horror movies when alex is out-- he's too chicken. thank god we have a dog.

  31. Serves K-Brew, Q-Brew, Mr. Brew, Gheorghe the Brew ( a Romanian porter)

  32. The men’s room walls are covered with unmentionably rude graffiti. And lots of phone numbers.

  33. In other news, zson likes to write stories and I generally encourage his creative efforts. Chapter two of his latest oeuvre is titled “The Muddy Bush” and chapter three introduces a book called “The Fister.” I might need to take a heavy hand when I blue pencil this one.

  34. I had lunch at MIA Brewery today. It’s quite good. The Brewery market is definitely reaching its saturation point but I think there’s always room for quality beer and food. People like those things.

  35. RJ Barrett is an absolute beast. He’s gonna be a very good NBA player right away.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think the same can be said for Zion Williamson.

  37. Apparently Igor did check out awhile back. Don't know what that means for his namesake establishent?

  38. Hi Gheorghies. Been a while since I’ve said that. Miami isn’t all bad.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I kinda hate Mark right now. It is a special sort of awful weather here in NJ. We got a couple inches of snow overnight. We now have freezing rain that is creating a slush fest. It will all become a frozen mess when it gets down to 5 degrees tonight. And the high tmrw is 15. Yippee.

    ReplyDelete
  40. We’re about leave for home. Stopped to get a little breakfast on our way out of town. The breakfast spot is around the corner from Club Space. Witnessed many people stumbling out of the still going club at 10:45 am. Gotta love Miami.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Seems like it’s about time Marls posted something.

    ReplyDelete
  42. weird. we're only a bit south of you in hp and we got all rain. it's freezing cold and windy now but we don't have the slush to contend with. just walked the dog with some serious scarf action (tucked in my sweatshirt hood). jawa style

    ReplyDelete
  43. drove home from trenton in a downpour. 95 through philly is a goddamn embarrassment.

    ReplyDelete
  44. TR got soft recently. We got maybe 3/4 of an inch of snow followed by rain. It took me 16.9 minuets to clear my cars and driveway and salt the stairs and walkway. The sun and 40 degree weather took care of the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  45. At least I don’t do minuets, Astaire.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hearty applause for that comment, TR. Very good.

Let’s see what Z has in his quiver.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Big balls on Greg Zeurlein. Jeez.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I definitely didn’t see the Rams winning this game after the first quarter. Impressive to win this game in New Orleans.

    ReplyDelete
  49. fuck Tom Brady and fuck the Patriots

    ReplyDelete
  50. I don’t get the insult but I’m often slow. I’m an awful dancer.

    ReplyDelete
  51. i gather the saints are righteously aggrieved by the work of the officials

    ReplyDelete
  52. As they should be. That was an awful no call. They should also feel terrible about blowing a large lead at home.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Reggie Ragland is good. The Bills could use a guy like that.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Is anyone besides Rob rooting for the Pats?

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm rooting for the Pats. Can't believe I've lived in MA 18 years.

Side note, son just finished reading the first Harry Potter book and wanted to see the movie immediately. Started the movie for him and first comment, "Wow, Dumbledore really let himself go in this movie". I can't stop laughing.

  56. Brady is too old for this weather.

    ReplyDelete
  57. watched monty python and the holy grail with my kids tonight. they found it silly and weird. so, they watched it correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I guess the pass interference rules are different in the postseason.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I have no idea what constitutes a catch anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  60. We wanted the Pats. Wow!
Crazy both games went to OT.
Our kids LOVE Monty Python. LOVE it! Weird kids.
Hope y’all stay warm in the blasting cold weather!
