Guess Who's Back

When I was flying back from Ireland in 2019 with a merry band of rugby hooligans, we stopped off in Reykjavík -- flying on IcelandAir for ridiculous low fares at the time.

In a bathroom stall, many miles over the ocean from these American States, I looked down and saw this graffiti.

No, not "Iceland Rocks."  It does, but that's not interesting. Nor the chicken scratch nor the stickers, even the Jam-Phish one.

McRib is Back

Why?? Why would someone take the time to write that and only that on an Icelandic airport TP dispenser? Was McRib back when he wrote it? Was that why he was in the stall? Or was he just a fan, keeping the part-time menu item's legacy alive worldwide.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Well, that fan will be happy to know... McRib is back. Starting November 1, you can get that Frankenstein's monster of a greasy pork sandwich once again. Learn it. Know it. Live it. Take it in the john with you, vinur minn. (That means "my friend" in Icelandic, though it sounds more like wiener man.)

This is amusing.

Get some.

Skol

On the eve of Independence Day, it's appropriate to celebrate a nation's heritage, its warriors, hunters, legends. That country, in this case, is Iceland, naturally.

The smallest country to ever qualify for the World Cup has gained respect for its national teams' unity
and fighting spirit, and for its fans' haunting Viking war chant. But until now, the nation's badge didn't match its heritage. It looked like it was designed by a first-semester graphic design student who was destined to work in a coffee shop for years.

Now, though, Iceland has a crest to match its sporting character. And the video reveal for it is amazeballs. The film was directed by Icelandic men's nation team goalkeeper Hannes Thor Halldorsson, who seems to specialize in the epic.

The new crest itself is like nothing in world soccer. It's got bears, and vikings, and giants, and eagles, and volcanoes, and dragons. Oh my.

Saturday Travel Filler

Depending upon when you read this, The Teej and his bride are either on their way to, or already in Iceland. We know nothing about Iceland, other than the fact that it's incredibly thermodynamic (ironic, that) and that it gave us Aron Johannsson.

Oh, and Bjork:

We're eagerly awaiting the Teej/baconbaking travelogue. Until then, we'll just watch this video on repeat.
