OBFT Reentry Filler

Generally speaking, what happens at OBFT stays at OBFT. At least the stuff that needs to stay at OBFT. In this case, most of that is related to stuff that's now legal in Colorado. For the other stuff, feel free to head over to Sentence of Dave for our correspondent's review of the proceedings.

Incidentally, the reason most stuff that happens at OBFT stays in Nags Head is that none of us can remember anything. As a case in point, I got an email from Rootsy this morning reminding me that we had a rousing singalong to the song below.

There's also no judging at OBFT, unless we're talking about playlists.

We were nailing those harmonies!

Your harmonization was the frattiest thing that happened all weekend.

So this bee pollen thing, what's the deal? Asking for a non-coffee drinker in need of a good source of energy.

zman said...

What's that hollerin'?/Bee pollen!
What's she swallowin'?/Bee pollen!
Who's that callin'?/Bee pollen!
Just take a Sudafed.

The singalong accompaniment still has me chuckling.

Chicken bone chicken bone chicken bone chicken bone

based on a sample size of one, bee pollen is extremely effective in delivering significant energy boost when the user is under the significant influence of crappy beer and seafood.

rootsminer said...

I'm pretty sure you weren't the only person who confessed to getting a boost from a spoonful of bee pollen - even the guy who's sinuses responded unpleasantly admitted that his energy level was much improved.

Also, it's got to be better for you than some other things people do spoonfuls of to get an energy boost!

zson invented a new game while I was away. It's called "slap the cat." It's a very literal name. I will not be bringing it or zcats to OBFT XXV.

rootsminer said...

My 14 year old is playing a similar game which I would term 'torment the cat'. He's crafty enough to avoid injury so far, but vengeance is surely coming.

And I told my wife about my singalong with Rob and guess who we're listening to now...that's right- Indigo Girls. Today is a long
Monday...

I think I've commented before how much I love NPR's Planet Money
Last week, they aired an episode about Trading Places.
And it was total nerdy cool.

That movie is the reason I majored in Finance at W&M
My complete lack of skill in financial management is why I didn't end up on Wall Street.
Still love the movie

Here's the link to that Planet Money

YES!
Another good one.
I love this show.

Listen to both of these episodes and this one:

anyone got any good sing-along tunes to accompany nuclear holocaust?

glen campbell, ridin' on on his horse in the star-spangled rodeo in the sky

Danimal said...

Just watched a Morning Joe Clip from '16. Joe tells us that a very good source of his was in the room during a consult on national security, with the lead topic being nuclear warfare. During the consult DT asked three (3) times why we couldn't use nukes if we have nukes.

Living our fears - the unknown of "what Donald might or could do" from back in the pre-election days when this scenario was an impossible one. Hopefully this is some sort of fucked up bad cop to tillerson's good cop routine in trying to handle Un. Because that would be a great idea.

Barry McGuire's 'Eve of Destruction' comes to mind.

Glen Campbell had quite a life in music. He hung in for quite some time in spite of his condition, too.

rob said...

glen campbell was on my obft playlist. i bet rootsy wishes this had happened to someone on coby's.

rootsminer said...

Did your playlist ever get aired Rob?

Not sure I'd be able to handle all of the outpouring of social media "grief" for Buffet if he were to pass away.

To Rootsy's point about Geln Campbell hanging in for a while:

Wait wait wait. Was Public Enemy's "By the Time I Get to Arizona" a direct reference to Glen Campbell "By the Time I Get to Phoenix?" I didn't know that until now.

Public Enemy has become so very underrated. While NWA had a moment of subversive fame, Public Enemy had an extended 5-6 year run that was a more nuanced form of uprising.

Chuck D had white kids in the suburbs singing "Elvis was a hero to most, but he never meant shit to me. Motherfuck him and John Wayne." Badass.

Squeaky said...

Holy long review batman. I loath Buffett and yet I got roped into seeing him in two weeks with a bunch of local folks. Yeah couples night out!!!! Hope I don't drink too much and then bitch about the music. Who am I kidding, both of those things will happen.

Speaking of drinking, who wants some beer shipped to them? I got some extra Trillium in the fridge.

zman said...

Chuck D's name came up in a greatest rapper of all time debate. I said the answer is unknowable but agreed that Chuck D is a worthy nominee. My KRS-ONE call went ignored.

Dave said...

tough to name the greatest rapper of all time, or even the greatest rap song . . . but we all know the best sequence: grinch who stole christmas doing thirty to life, sent to the slammer, now he's bubba's wife . . .

Glad to see that Dave is feeling better and is back with shameless self-promotion.
