Count Your Blessings, Name Them One by One

A bit of a break from dipshittery this morning, and a share of something that you'll probably see lots of other places, simply because it moved me. Jimmy Kimmel's emotional monologue last night is worth a listen for its humanity, humility, and unfiltered reality.

It's okay if it gets dusty in your office.

He had a great one too after Don Rickles passing.

Sent the link to my wife. She now hates me.

In other news, just was informed I need to wager on this horse for the derby. 12 to 1, could be worse bets out there.

Derby fail on my part. The horse in question was in the futures pool and will not be in the race. I'm boycotting the derby this year.

What a crybaby

Kidding of course. I like Kimmel.

Hoge and Jaws appear out at ESPN. Hopefully this means they're stopping the arms race w/ the NFL Network. I will miss neither of these guys.

Good shit, dude

is this a comment leftover from danimal's poop question?

william and mary forward/center jack whitman graduated and transferred...to kansas. that's an upgrade i didn't see coming. i guess riding the pine on a national championship contender is one way to get to an ncaa tournament.

Honestly, a year of practicing against high level players while also enjoying first class treatment/travel/gear isn't a terrible deal and it may even improve his chances of playing overseas. He'lol get to the tourney too.

oh, i'm sure he'll have a cool experience. the tribe's gonna suck, but we weren't gonna be awesome even if he stayed after losing our two top scorers.

TR said...

He's going to get him some of that's Kans-ass, if you know what I mean.

(Just made that up. Pretty witty, right?)

Whitty maybe. Can's ass?

Aaron Judge appars to be good at hitting a baseball.

TR said...

He's better at that than I am at spelling.

Yoooodge day here. Everyone must be mildly nauseous (Tribe pride!) and thus unable to comment.

Whitney said...

Yeah. I think it's better to say he was "nauseated," but I guess technically he was correct.

I'm still flabbergasted by Isaiah Thomas' performance last night.

the house gop is about to take millions of americans off the cliff with it, thelma and louise-style. we live in awful times.

It was incredible for sure. I never thought the Celts would come back in the 4th. He was unbelievable.

Would be nice if one of these second round series was competitive. Why is LBJ on the court w/ his team up 27 w/ six mins left?

Wait a sec - Kenny Powers is in the new Alien?

TR said...

Wait another sec - ESPN canned Marc Stein AND Chad Ford!? Yet Chris Broussard still works there? And Woj is going there? I loved Stein. Simmons must have a giant boner about all of this.

zman said...

Tre'Davious White's girlfriend is named Ikea.

Whitney said...

I just went to the coolest music show I've ever seen. At Preservation Hall. Story later.

Mark said...

I'm pretty sure that Broussard hasn't been at ESPN in some time. Dumping Ford and Stein sucks but snagging Woj is a coup. Primarily because of his reporting but his podcasts are damn good too.

rob said...

deadspin is reporting that woj shivved stein. pretty fascinating inside baseball.

TR said...

Broussard left for Fox Sports in late '16, according to the interwebs.

TR said...

I'm guessing we're all equally fired up for the Europa League semis match this afternoon, right?

every chance to see man u lose is worth celebrating

That's the spirit! Wait, what?

Seems like if you oppose the commandrill-in-chief and the GOP, watching them flush the flawed but far-reaching ACA and replace it with the hastily-passed, tax-cutting, healthcare-cutting AHCA could make you happy and end up in your favor.

By many assessments, millions of Americans will be negatively impacted -- most of those lower-income folks who may well fall into Trumplestiltskin's oft-referenced base. And this impact won't be slow malaise annoyance and frustration but rather the death and destitution kind. It's not a slow-play kind of success for the GOP but it might save them in midterm elections. Down the road, the chaos and suffering could backlash mightily. That helps the Dems.

Except for two pesky things.

1. A good number of people on the left have "hearts" and/or "souls." Different than when the President said he was up for a government shutdown in 5 months (strong right out of the gate to top the 1000 Most Imbecilic Statements of his first six months list), rooting for anarchy as political currency at the expense of human lives is not something most folks can stomach. Sucks.

2. The result for many could be a return to the dunder-headed system of unpaid ER visits in lieu of health insurance. Taxpayers continue to foot it, Trump and his ilk claim victory (egads, the impending playground proclamations), and everyone but the top 1% loses. Tremendous.

Whitney said...

Didn't mean to imply that Dems all have souls or that they have a moratorium on decency. The Tuesday group and plenty of moderate centrists simply looking for some reform are suffering just as much by these developments.

Looks like LaVar Ball launched a new line of orthopedic shoes and shower shoes for $495 and $220. Hopefully the new AHCA will cover the cost of these medical products.
