Filler That Deserves Better

This story deserves a bigger treatment, but we're nothing if not editorially disciplined. Maybe we'll follow up when it comes to its celebratory conclusion.

Cole Brauer is a 5'1", 29 year-old Long Island native who happens to be among the most badass sailors in history. She's about a week away from finishing second in the Global Solo Challenge, which is exactly what it sounds like - a race that started in A Coruña, Spain in August 2023 and ends in the same location. Brauer is on pace to finish second, and will become the first American woman to sail solo around the globe.

The New York Times (in addition to People Magazine, Sports Illustrated, and a number of other outlets) just wrote a story on Brauer. I commend it to your attention, and to her Instagram account, where's she shared the details of her journey to an audience that's grown to 400,000.

Here's to badass women.

5, about to be 7 of us, daydrinking in a pub overlooking the Pacific in Hermosa Beach. The late night joint we went last night is great, but they have the worst darts we’ve ever seen. So Gus and I are leaving the bar now to Uber to a sporting goods store in El Segundo and get good darts to take when we go back tonight. Good call, or idiotic?

Also, we are going to find a bar near the store for a couple of pints.

Also, I hope not to leave my wallet there.

Seven fifty-something ruggers, drinking like they're still in their 20s, with darts. What's the worst that could happen?

the best call. creating fun for all, with the possibility of chaos and multiple story opportunities? strongly endorse.

Darts acquired. Four Roses sipper consumed. As chased by a PBR. Cup of brisket chili demolished.

Time to head back to the gang. Success.

Did you take a Dodge Dart, a '74?

Whitney had a yard but he needed one more.

Good morning Gents. Coming to you live from St. Cloud, FL. Coached basketball last night and up at 5 this morning for volleyball. Yay sports.

Your pain felt. Ocala, swim meet, 72 hours replete with morning prelims and evening finals. So, in case wondering, 8-1230 and then again 4-730, each day. I may or may not have mentioned this but a couple of yrs ago, based on need of club and my desperate boredom, I became an official.
I love watching my girls swim but could possibly be envious of Whit at moment.

Also, it hit me mid tournament that the gym we were in was where my high school basketball career ended. Nice reminder of how old I am.
