It's Friday filler time, and we're mashing things up here at GTB. Here's a new one...
Here's one I hadn't seen...
And my all-time favorite, still making me happy.

AND THEN THERE'S THIS
Dedicated to the premise that life would be better if we all took ourselves a little less seriously.
It's Friday filler time, and we're mashing things up here at GTB. Here's a new one...
bought another pair of new vans last week. my midlife crisis is coming along swimmingly.
ReplyDeleteAll you need is a Lotus Elan.
ReplyDeletevans are a slightly cheaper habit
ReplyDeletei don't like that beasties/ghostbusters mash-up, mainly because i love intergalactic and i hate the ghostbusters theme (though i love ghostbusters). i need to unhear that-- I'll have to play some tom petty? that's what gets rid of earworms, right?
ReplyDeleteCurrently in Asheville, it’s as great as Mark advertised. Takeout BBQ being consumed at the moment, a very large order just placed with Wicked Weed for beer pickup. Giddy up.
ReplyDeleteDave, there’s a “new” Tom Petty album, like a Wildflowers expanded box that is getting some acclaim. But maybe you should just listen to some Van Halen.
ReplyDeleteDo you hate the Ghostbusters song because you love Huey Lewis and his “I Want a New Drug?” Music insider reference there.

ReplyDeleteHot take: I think Huey Lewis is a great dude, but I think that band's music is shit.
ReplyDeleteI kind of like his song Heart and Soul, but yeah... it's light pop soft rock of the 80's all the way.
ReplyDeleteSeveral of the News were Elvis Costello's backing band on his first album. All of them, including Huey, were Clover, the pre-News band hanging around with Declan McManus & Co. in the late 70's. Then they went back to the Bay Area, got all soft, and made a bunch of soft rock (and money).
ALSO... new addendum to this post added
ReplyDeleteThe ladies loved Huey, he allegedly has a big dong, and he was very self-aware, knowing the band achieved unprecedented fame b/c of how mainstream they were. I bet the 80’s were fun for him. Hot loving every night!
ReplyDeletethe idea of the addendum is excellent, but wear different shirts, dude!
ReplyDeletei like huey lewis and the news without reservation. love that cotton candy pop sound.
different vibe - spare a thought for our friends in boulder. they've got ash raining (snowing?) on their yard from fires in the area.
ReplyDeleteI just watched the HBO documentary The Perfect Weapon. A look at cyber conflict, beginning with the US use of Stuxnet in Iran and running up until right now, on the eve of what could be a mess of an election for the ages. Intermittently enlightening, fascinating, and terrifying. Side note: Seth Rogen was not who I imagined would get extensive airtime.
ReplyDeleteI'm down with Huey and the news. They really made use of the pre-chorus. eg. "Girl don't lie..."
ReplyDeleteWatched Hubie Halloween with the family last night on Netflix. As you might expect, the jokes were right down the fairway for my kids. Very entertaining way to mute the nonsense in the world and get a few fart/dick joke laughs for 100 minutes while sipping scotch.
ReplyDeleteQuite a Merseyside derby underway.
ReplyDeleteReiterating that last comment. It is making my 7 AM wakeup for kid sports almost tolerable.
ReplyDeletemy brother is a great musician. he also loves huey lewis and the news. figure that out.
ReplyDeleteGonna pop some corn and watch Hubie Halloween with the kid next weekend. She’s spending the night around the corner tonight so I’m gonna drink a bit too much and watch CFB. Feel free to judge. I’m not sure how much more football I have in my future.
ReplyDeleteAsheville is great. I’d move there. It checks all my boxes. Basketball, good beer, good smoke and an eager acceptance of tattoos.
Arkansas is the surprise of the CFB season. No question whatsoever. Should be 3-1 and stout defensively.
ReplyDeleteFun night of sports. Had a baseball doubleheader all afternoon, so I’m content to be on the couch with scotch. I laid some shekels on Bama to cover. The UGA promotion seems aspirational, as always.
ReplyDeleteI’m also happy to be on my couch. Bama-UGA on one tv and FSU-UNC on the other. I’m not sold on UGA either. It feels like they’re being willed into significance. The recruiting is great but I still don’t by Kirby as an in game coach.
ReplyDeleteBama has all the wideouts.
ReplyDeleteI continue to think Georgia is fine. Nothing all that impressive offensively.
ReplyDeleteFSU-UNC is the same as it ever was? I didn’t see that coming at all. FaceTimed w/ my sister before the game and told her to enjoy the first half and a drink at home during the second. I’m an idiot.
ReplyDeleteA Father like figure former golf pro from Augusta is pretty tight with Huey...has been on many a golf trip w him. Loves him like a brother. Apparently as solid as they come.
ReplyDeleteSwim day here consuming much of the day. Fire pit with its first stoking of the season.
Nice game in progress.
The Elvis Costello-Huey Lewis/News connection was the subject of a "Jeopardy" question this week. Didn't know about it till then.
ReplyDeleteProbably Key & Peele's highest concept offerings, but Peele as Ray Parker Jr. doing a time-life type commercial of movie theme songs always gets a laugh from me.
Without that Ghostbusters row/lawsuit, we might be talking about Parker Jr. in hushed tones reserved for Loggins. You know there was more soundtrack work headed his way.
That documentary on HBO sounds worthwhile, but I (and probably TJ) take umbrage with the title. There can only be one Perfect Weapon, and his name is Jeff Speakman.
lol god damn Jeff Speakman had a moment
ReplyDeleteI love hearing that Huey Lewis is a solid guy. I’m not sayin his stuff is high art- it’s pop music.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever heard ‘I Wanna New Drug’ in a grocery store...on weed?
Very “on brand” second half performance for Georgia.
ReplyDeleteDevonta Smith is a bad motherfucker.
ReplyDeleteThis baseball game just got more interesting...
ReplyDeleteFSU making it interesting. Watching this on espn 3, no commentators. Can’t decide if I love it or hate it.
ReplyDeleteAnd only one camera. Yeah, I hate it.
ReplyDeleteTerrible drops by UNC. Three in a row. Any one of them would have put them in FG range.
ReplyDeleteDave’s brother sounds like a cool guy.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that Huey is a good dude. He was screwed by not being nominated for a Oscar for his work in BTTF.
Dave’s brother Marc is indeed a cool guy. He’s a virtuosic piano player, he’s better than Dave at almost everything they play together (golf, hoops, cornhole, etc), and yet he’s humble and pleasant, albeit with Dave’s same goofy sense of humor.
