Some might say we range far and wide today in our pursuit of interesting content. Others would argue that we're all over the fucking place. The truth, as often, is somewhere in the middle. Closer to all over the fucking place, but still.
Careful observers of this space know that I took two lawnmowers to the landfill over the weekend. I haven't had a working mower for over a year. I've been outsourcing the trimming of my lawn to a neighbor kid who's inherited a mowing business from his older brother when the latter went to college. The younger kid is a good egg, but he's working a job, doing offseason training for football, and wrapping up his junior year. As a consequence, the lawn, she was a mess.
So I went out and bought myself an electric mower yesterday, an EGO Power+ 600 series, complete with a 56w battery, a 21" deck, and a sporty look. Got her up and running this morning before I started the workday. She's a beauty.
Might have to reward myself by hitting the most unexpected source of great craft beer in the area. Hat tip to Mr. KQ for turning me on to The Filling Co., a hybrid gas station/convenience store/fast service restaurant with three locations in the DMV. In addition to having really excellent food (my kid goes there for top notch deep-fried Oreos), TFC has an incredible selection of terrific beers that I've never seen anywhere else in the area. I've purchased stuff from The Veil, Benchtop, Lawson's, The Other Half, and several really collaborations that are unavailable elsewhere. Keep your eyes peeled for one coming to your area.
And finally, a reunion tour that's got me a bit historically feeling. Rilo Kiley, fronted by the great Jenny Lewis, just announced their first tour since 2007, though they officially broke up in 2014. They're getting back together and hitting the road starting later this month. On August 30 they'll play the Summer Stage in Asbury Park, NJ, and they'll be at The Anthem in Washington, DC on September 10. Don't mind if I do.
I love what I know of Rilo Kiley and Jenny Lewis. Must... hear... more...
ReplyDeleteAnd I definitely need to check out The Filling Co. Would love this in my town.
I gassed up my trusty 30+ year old Snapper Saturday to do my first mow of the season, only to find the blade control cable snapped. My wife asked if it was time to say goodbye to the gas walk behind. Not yet, but probably soon.
ReplyDeleteI've never owned a gas mower, I had a neighborhood kid mow my ratty lawn for a few years and then I too got an EGO. Like rob, I have a 21 inch deck. Once you get one EGO product you get sucked into their ecosystem. For Father's Day you'll get an EGO hedge trimmer, for your anniversary you'll get an EGO string trimmer, and if you're luck you'll get an EGO blower on your birthday.
ReplyDeleteGot all those. Chainsaw too. Just waiting for the ole battle axe to seize up.
ReplyDeleteThe Washington Wizards, who went 18-64 and missed out on having the worst record in the league by 1 game, went into the lottery with the second-best chance of getting Cooper Flagg. They got the 6th pick, which is just one more piece of evidence that this franchise is forever cursed and will never win anything ever. Sad to say.
ReplyDeletehuge character win for your huskies. played their most complete game of the season, but found themselves down, 1-0, with 20 minutes left after giving up a breakaway. scored two beautiful team goals, the last with 3 1/2 minutes left, to win 2-1 and clinch a home playoff game. 6-5-3 on the season, 5-1-1 in league play. lotta ball left, hopefully.
ReplyDeleteQuite an NBA night, Dallas wins the lottery which is total bullshit and will lead to everyone saying the lottery was rigged. Which…maybe.
ReplyDeleteAnd Boston blows yet another lead and this series is likely over. And Tatum may have a torn Achilles based on the way he went down.
Agree with Mark. Not a good look for NBA to have playoff team (play-in tournament, but still ...) win lottery and access to No. 1 prospect. That said, wouldn't wish Wizards, Jazz, Pelicans, Portland, several others on Flagg.
ReplyDeleteFeel badly for Tatum, though I have a tough time with empathy for Celtics and especially for their entitled, provincial fans. On flip side, also difficult to appreciate good tidings for Jimmy Dolan.
Doubt that Curry-less Warriors come back from 3-1 down. Intrigued to see if Curry-Draymond-Butler have one more full run in them next season.
Quietly hope for Thunder-Pacers final, cuz I think hoops itself will be enjoyable and will prompt maximum indigestion among TV execs.
