  2. If you like Frightened Rabbit you should check out Glasvegas. Equally Scottish, a bit more soulful.

  8. Sorry Lumps. I went home and took a nap. You should have tried coordinating me on my phone, not on a new midday GTB post.

PS. Your wife called and wants to know how you could leave her home with three kids while you're out drinking beer. I guess you're in the doghouse.

  9. at a women's professional soccer game. my girl megan rapinoe is here. as is hope solo.

  10. Have I ever steered you wrong rob? Musically, I mean.

  11. Man I still like that Big Country song. I remember dubbing my friend's LP onto a cassette almost 30 years ago. One of the only instances of bagpipe that ever enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Don't sleep on Bon Scott's bagpipe solo in "It's a Long Way to the Top If You Wanna Rock and Roll."

That whole Big Country album (The Crossing) is great.

  13. I've been commenting on the old post all afternoon. I was in a number of Florida panhandle towns today. Towns like Panacea, Crawfordville, Wakulla and wait for it...Sopchoppy.

Went scalloping in the Gulf this afternoon. Good fun. Now I'm eating obscenely good. Scallops, crab cakes, grilled grouper, stuffed bacon wrapped shrimp and a late addition of butter beans. Butter beans dropped off by my brother in laws ultra southern father. His parents are named OC and Teddy Sue. Doesn't get much more southern than that.

  14. Rob- is noted dbag Jerramy Stevens there.

  15. I now have food envy. Fuck you Mark.

In other news, if you like pale ales then you should try Red Seal Ale.

  16. Happy to help, Zman. I also bought Cinnabon for the first time in over a decade yesterday. Working on getting drunk so I can fully appreciate the Cinnabon goodness.

  17. Down here in the south we've got a new one called Red Clay IPA from sunken city brewing co. It's certainly making my saturday night studio explorations sound better than they probably are, playing fiddle for the first time in years.

  18. did not see solo's dickbag husband. she, however, epitomizes athletic arrogance. she prowled the pitch like she owned it. but my daughter's favorite player, 5'1" diana matheson, beat her in the 80th minute for the game's only goal. happened right in front of us. cool dad/kid moment.

  19. that blurred lines video tr recommended is...well, you should probably take a look at it. alone.

  20. Hi Gheorghies. I'm sure Marls or Clarence will usurp me here.

  21. Just coming in from friend of G:TB DB's stag party in Chicago. Fuck you zman and TR.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Agreed, Rob. Link is on prior post comments for those of you who are interested.

That brown haired girl is perfect. Is Gould effort up her name. She might be my future second ex-wife.

  23. Off to Denver for four nights of "more than I should, less than I want to" drinking.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Her name is Emily Ratajkowski. I linked to that video in my grown-ass-man summertime music post. I'm glad you all read it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. she's smoking hot and goofy, which is a winning combination.

and z, i'm sure we all read it at work and couldn't watch the video. completely sure.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Feeling suboptimal this am.

Despite my early morning venom, TR and Zman were missed.

  27. Happy Sunday Gheroghies
I really like Ernie Johnson as a golf announcer.
And I'm still stunned that the Grahams sold the WaPo...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Shlara - Sports Guy, Gladwell and Nate Silver has a good podcast on the WaPo sale to Bezos and what it could mean for print journalism.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thx TR, listened to that this morning, and have been obsessively reading every piece written about Bezos and the sale this week, including the Fast Co cover story.

I'm starting a journalism grad school program in a few weeks...either really good timing, or really bad timing, still TBD I think.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh, and I'm still a 7-day-week print subscriber to the WaPo. I'm not sure that will be an option in a few years...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Congrats and good luck on the new degree. You might be the only person I know under 60 who gets a hard copy of the paper every day. My father is scandalized that I read all my news online.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I get the WSJ and NY Post on my iPad for my train commute. Half as expensive and twice as efficient.

It's a double dose of fair and balanced journalism.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Johnny Walker Platinum? Is that really necessary?

    ReplyDelete
  34. you think alan thicke forwarded that video to all his friends with the header, 'that's my boy'? pretty sure he did.

    ReplyDelete
  35. tribe/ rutgers hoops. you are all invited to road trip up for what is certain to be mediocre at best (the basketball game and my hosting ability).

    ReplyDelete
  36. I played three hours of tennis this morning. Usually that doesn't kill me, but the first double team I played was a father/son combo; both are good and the son is only 13. I refuse to lose to a 13 year-old and so I won, preserving my undefeated record against him and is dad. Unfortunately, I can only play at a high level for a limited period of time before shit starts to get hurt, and I pushed myself beyond that time limit today to make sure I didn't lose to the kid. Then I played another 2 hours or so. Now I can't lift my right arm above my head. Sports!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Do you think Emily Ratajkowski's dad forwarded that video to his friends and said "That's my girl"? Prolly not.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think I pulled my hamstring getting out of the shower. I'm a mess.

    ReplyDelete
  39. When will Robin Thicke unleash a techno cover of his dad's Growing Pains theme song?

    ReplyDelete
  40. comment about emily immediately followed by one about pulling. let's try to be a bit more discreet, z.

    ReplyDelete
  41. My shoulder precludes the pulling you're thinking of.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Doesn't Jason Dufner remind you of that sheepdog from Looney Tunes cartoons?

He's playing some great golf today--and since Adam isn't going to win this thing, I hope sheepdog Duf will hold on to the lead

    ReplyDelete
  43. I am an hour or so behind live action. I like Stenson....am rooting for Furyk, but would be totally ok with the big lipper.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Just arrived home from Tallahassee. Stopped in Gainesville for a long lunch and to brainwash my stepdaughter by showing her some of the highlights of Florida's campus. I may not leave my couch for the rest of the day/night.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Congrats to Duf. He actually broke character for the trophy presentation. I'm not sure I had ever heard him speak before, and he sounded a lot more like Bruce (the "OH NO" guy) from Family Guy than I expected.

    ReplyDelete
  46. And don't forget his quality ass grab of the wife during the victory hug.
