Happy Friday! Feliz Viernes!

Sometimes in life, something just drops in your lap, in a matter of sorts, and you are better off for it.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you David Lee Roth singing Yankee Rose. In Spanish. It is mesmerizing. His enunciation, his "I studied Spanish for two years" grasp of the language, the way he changes his inflection at certain points, the literal translation of the lyrics.

Que magnifico es esto. You're welcome, fockers.

Marls wins. “Diamanté Dave” was something I wanted to work in.

Hornets lost to Warriors tonight, but Ball put up a 22/7/6, while shooting 37.5% from 3.

my youngest turns 17 today. her preference for birthdays for the past several years has been to take a friend with us to the melting pot. last night, we took two, in addition to my 19 year-old, who's home for the weekend. friends, i feel pretty good about having saved money for my kids' college. i should've also been saving for dinner at the melting pot. sheesh.

Yesterday was my tenth anniversary. We had a nice dinner with friends at the house. Ditching the kid and heading to winter park for a day of eating/drinking/shopping. Not exactly our original plan of returning to Tortola but it’ll do during a pandemic.

Doesn't sound too bad Mark. My pandemic win of the day was getting the hook up to get into the DMV and title my wife's new whip. It's in her name so I can keep my cred of not driving anything newer than an 08 model. I've now doubled the amount of dough spent acquiring our motley fleet, and have to decide which one to sell.

(Hot take time from me)

So a G-League player decided to talk smack to Jeremy Lin by calling him Coronavirus? I get that this is a bush league and ignorant move, but are we really going to pretend that smack-talking is now a criminal offense? Patrick Beverley mocked players that got hurt. Garnett told Carmelo what his wife's privates tasted like. But this is where we draw the line.

And I'm not sure if anybody ever saw/heard the stuff that was said to JJ Redick when he played away games at UNC, but it was foul foul stuff directed at his family. I'd rather see Jeremy go Linsane and put up 30 or give the guy a shot to the nuts than have it litigated publicly. it's no worse than this other stuff.

I'm kinda with you TR. Not sure when our collective sensitivity will reach the point that shit-talking is put in proper perspective.

Speaking of KG, the 08 Celtics' plane arm-wrestling story Scalabrine tells on yesterday's Lowe Post is hilarious.

Here’s my hot take: Mac McClung is pretty overrated.

(hot take on TR's hot take)

Do we really want to permit 'porch monkey' and 'wetback' and 'kike' as acceptable smack talk, cuz that's where we're headed if 'coronavirus' and Asian-American slurs prompt a "Lighten up, Francis" reaction. A player's performance, his own words, even his wife's privates are fair game. Plenty of creative ways to jab opponents. Ethnic stuff should be called out.

speaking of ethic stuff, i made it 43 seconds into yankee rose in espanol. I'm not sure that should have been permitted.

mac mcclung is the david eckstein of jimmer fredettes. with better hops.

Mark said...

OBX Dave makes a strong point. Lots of ways to talk shit without resorting to ethnicity based shit.

Alternatively, the NBA and the G league could permit fighting like the NHL and let folks settle it themselves. Each team could have one Dude there just to throw if somebody crosses the line.

TR said...

Fair rebuttals. Especially from Marls.

So I finally listened to the video and to my ears it sounds like Jabba the Hutt's house band.

To be clear, I love the original version of Yankee Rose. I say that without any irony. That was DLR’s apex as a solo artist.

In the lobby bar at the Grand Bohemian in downtown Orlando. It’s a legitimately great hotel bar and the piano player is killing it tonight. Playing all kinds of hip hop and r&b hits.
