On the evening before Billie Joe Armstrong began his 50th year on this spinning planet, a bowtied grifter went on Fox News and claimed to his audience of willingly-led rubes hungry for the red meat of libtard failure that Joe and Jill Biden's marriage was a 44 year-long PR stunt. "It's no more real than climate change," bleated the floppy-haired prep school rich kid, neatly tying a classic wingnut conspiracy theory into this newest batshittery designed to separate idiots from their money and their sanity.
And I thought as I heard the news of the Green Day singer's birthday, how dead fuck on the band's 2004 hit American Idiot remains today.
Don't wanna be an American idiot/Don't want a nation under the new media/And can you hear the sound of hysteria?/The subliminal mind fuck America.
Only thing they got wrong is that it ain't subliminal at all. The mind fuck is intentional and wide out in the open.
So what's left for a blog to do? Turn it up, man.

i confess to having more at least a little bit of schadenfreudian joy watching the trump tower in atlantic city implode this morning. can we give its namesake a little carl spackler hamstring cure? he'll never play golf again.
Okay, so I don't get this. He supported Biden for President, called-out Trump and his antics. What's his motivation for such comments and even going on Fox News? Or am I confused and don't understand this post (very possible!).
the bowtied grifter is tucker carlson. i just didn't want to smear the sanctity of our little corner of the interwebs by using his name. billie joe is a righteous dude. like ferris bueller.
management apologizes for any confusion our post caused. or any of our posts, really. 'cause there's been some confusion over the years. mostly on our part.
ah. now I get it. I thought you meant...I'm operating very sub-optimally these days. My job sucks right now. People suck. Myanmar is in massive turmoil which is greatly affecting the lives of our people - we have a relative of one of our families missing. He's been taken. It's all so horrible, and in the midst of it some of our other people are really being petty and awful. Sorry for my stupidity. and for letting me rant here for a few sentences.
Hope all of you are better than I at the moment! I'm distracting myself by reading blogposts, podcasts, etc. And clearly not doing that well either. Here's to better days and things looking up in the world soon!
I recently watched the HBO 4-part documentary The Lady and the Dale. Absolutely fascinating story. As you watch it, every time you think you know what's going to happen, you're wrong.
The Trailer is here.
Along the way, the story's central figure and her fraud is brought down in part by a pesky L.A. telejournalist. Persistent, dogged, relentless. Bigoted, nasty, unrepentant, and full of scorn and hate for the titular lady, who just *happens* to be a transsexual. His disdain for her not only in 1975 but in 2021 is off the charts, even comparing her behavior to that of to Jeffrey Dahmer. A 1970's judge wise beyond his era saw fit to allow Liz Carmichael to be referred to in court in female pronouns. This reporter, in court to give testimony, consistently refused to do so and call her "him," chuckling snarkily about it all these years later.
That minor character in this bizarre historical drama is but a sidelight in this piece. But I'll go ahead and spoil it for you... his name is Dick Carlson. Yeah, Tucker Carlson's dad. A family built on hatred and fear of those who are different, snide sarcasm, and tilted TV "news" infamy focused on pearl-clutching condescension. Bleh.
You happy, Rob? Your post killed Rush.
Rest in Piss
I had just run into the store before our impending winter weather and flipped on his show to see what type of sycophant was in the chair today. The voice I heard was Rush himself, decrying identity politics as the show went to break. Immediately after a news break announced his death, which did not dampen my mood at all. I know there will be others serving in that role, but I've yet to hear a fill in who could pull it off quite as persuasively. Dude had a talent, but won't be missed by me. At all.
not happy necessarily, tr. but not unhappy.
I'm with Rob. I wouldn't revel in anyone's death. But the fact that they're no longer spewing toxic horseshit to a sizable audience of devoted followers? I know it doesn't make me sad.
Speaking of horseshit, the local forecast calls for 5 to 8 inches of snow from 4 am Thursday to 10 am Friday. This is troublesome on several levels. I already have more snow than I need and I'm not sure where I will put more. I do not enjoy working from home while my kids are at home. I will not enjoy a power outage. And, of course, they couldn't come up with an extra inch of snow on both ends of that forecast?
I can only assume the replacement for Rush will be right of Rush, more extreme, conspiratorial. In a year we'll wish we had him back. Sad, cynical, and my money on true.
nice song whit! i had to look up mignonette . .
and so glad howard stern outlived rush Limbaugh. they should have a parade for that . . .
The replacement for Rush is Donald Trump on The Trump Network, right?
you think fernando tatis jr. would adopt me?
Trump hosting his own show seems more unlikely than being Pres. Maybe if it were a 15 min show...say what you will about Rush, he could spew for hours on end, complete sentences and all, persuasive and cogent. I'd like to see Trump give that a try.
I met Rush btw...one of my brushes w fame, circa '05ish in Pinehurst. He was there for a high profile golf outing...he was playing w my old pal HW. It was a quick handshake and he asking me to repeat what my name...bc he didn't hear so well. My dad loved that guy. How much credit/blame does Rush get for where we are today? It isn't a little.
Repeat my name
Finished Pappyland last night. Terrific. I will read that one again. But now another bourbon book, Bourbon Empire. Stay tuned for the review.
Yeah, Wright Thompson mentions Bourbon Empire. Would love to get your two cents on it, Dannyboy.
I am halfway through Mark Bowden’s The Last Stone. He may be my favorite non-fiction writer. This book is like an amazing Dateline episode in print. It’s an easy page-turner. But an awfully sad, tragic story.
I'm starting to think that the return in a Sam Darnold trade will be pretty good. If Wentz and that brutal contract are worth a 3 and a 2 (that can turn into a 1), Darnold should net something similar.
Happy National Drink Wine Day
Keith Gill just said "I am not a cat" to the House Committee on Financial Services. That is some meta humor from Roaring Kitty.
