Write Riot

This website has had no shortage of posts about or featuring Joe Strummer. The Clash frontman would've turned 69 yesterday, and it's only fitting that we do a punk rock, man of the people sort of celly.

OBX Dave hepped me and Whitney to this short documentary piece on The Clash from the BBC. When I suggested to him that it would make for a good post. To which he responded that he didn't feel qualified to write about Strummer.

So this post is also a riposte. If we waited until we were qualified to write, this blog would've died in its infancy. Punk rock ain't about qualified, after all. And neither are we.

Being qualified is overrated.

I just had a stroke of luck on my first road bike ride in many weeks. While using my left hand to unzip my jersey a bit, I hit a bump at about 15mph. I lost control and crashed into a kudzu covered bank. Didn’t hurt a bit. Could have been way worse.

yikes, rootsy. that's why i don't wear fancy ridin' livery.

I hope there was no poison ivy mixed in with the kudzu. Time will tell.

Good call z. I believe I’ll scrub down with some technu to avoid dealing with that.

There are some fun trails to ride around my new town. It's not the traditional "dirt trail in a forest w/ tree roots and stones to navigate through" ride I'm used to. It's tiny gravel pebbles that usually have a small lane in the middle that's clear for bike wheels. I've been pushing myself on the terrain, which is often hilly and littered with sharp switchback turns.

Long way of saying that a spill is inevitable, partially b/c I enjoy finding the highest speed I can safely manage on downhill portions. Nice post fodder, assuming I don't break a leg.

Lord knows I appreciate passion over perfection at times. I wrote plenty of pieces half-cocked, or quarter-cocked, though I tried to limit abject displays of ignorance.

But despite this here digital tree fort's plebeian roots and vibe, a bunch of you have the souls of a poet, a gift for conveying thoughts and telling stories, and broad, esoteric storehouses of knowledge. It's a roadside diner with four-star grub and an amiable staff.

My point was that Whit and Rob, among others, could likely dash off 600 quality words on Strummer and The Clash off the tops of their heads, while I have little to add to the canon, and it would show.

i prefer to believe that your professional pride makes it hard for you to dash off filler. lord knows someone here needs some professional pride.

I do not use my all, half, or a quarter of my cock to write blog posts.

Is that what he calls ex-girlfriends?

I can’t wait for:

a) Cuomo to run for the Senate, and
b) DeBlasio to run for Governor
