Sotheby's is hosting a hiphop auction. This is possibly the least hiphop thing ever but there's so much cool stuff I won't hate. For example, they have Slick Rick's eye patch:
They have Prince Paul's drum machine:
They even have Biggie's crown:
I can afford none of that. There are a handful of things I could theoretically afford and that are dope to quite dope, like this Beastie Boys concert poster:
Or these flyers:
Or this Tommy Boy neon sign which is also now out of reach:
I encourage you to take a spin through the lots, there's plenty of fun stuff to see.

The prices will come down on these items Z. You just watch.
Come down? Is that how an auction works?
Check out the Run-D.M.C. pic from '84. (In '84 he'll be a little faster and only practice makes a real jam master.)
DJ Run and the Devastating Mic Controller are rocking some Wallabees. Long before Wu-Tang did the same.
Looking good, gents. Love it.
That may not be how it works. I'm just practicing irrational confidence to see how awesome things can be.
Speaking of appreciating assets, my dad's buddy who has a auto repair shop that specializes in german autos just had a good one.
A 1964 911 "Barn Find" from South Carolina, that had been sitting idle after being a daily driver for the owner's dad. He bought it a few years ago for 60K, and rebuilt the engine and drive train. All of the parts are stamped with the serial number of the car. Cosmetically, the car was not even cleaned. Just sold to a buyer in Germany who is having it air freighted overseas. The sale price, not including freight : 850K. Not too bad.
Price on that car —OMDL!
The BBC news on radio this a.m. did nice story about the hip-hop auction. For kicks I looked up bid on the subway sign - it was at $15K. Sometimes I wish we had disposable income. Probably wouldn’t spend it on subway sign but still.
Well sold! It must've had some important provenance, like Steve McQueen raced it or Elvis owned it.
That's insane, Rootsy.
Hey, people -- who wants to be like Magnum?

Why isn't this car more??? Man, I wish I could pull this one off.
That 308 is a $50k car. It will get there, three days left. Like all Ferraris these are hideously expensive to maintain. It's like having a boat.
Unless you can do the work yourself. About 10 years ago I went to Rahway to look at a car for my dad. The guy told me it was his wife's car, she had died recently and it was too painful to have the car around (it was an NB Miata). While poking around under the car I saw something red in the garage. It was a 308. In Rahway?!? The guy just bought it, it was his dream car. All his friends had Corvettes and Harleys but he was a Ferrari man. He was a machinist and did all the work himself.
the prices on all things will eventually come down when the next pandemic thins the population and thus the demand for disposable income frivolity.
The 911 I referenced didn't have any important provenance, aside from being all original in the first year of the iconic model. It had been driven hard about 140 miles per day before it was stored.
This video is of another 1964 911 that the same guy bought at age 19 and fully restored. He still has it, and has turned down offers for it that are higher than what he got for the barn find.
that link is nsfw - car porn
It's a 901.
That game was fucking awesome. What a block by Bam. Tatum shouldn’t have tried to dunk it but that was still an all time clutch block. 6 more of those please.
there are some motherfuckers on those teams. bam, smart, brown. herro might be a baby motherfucker. but the heat have the motherfuckingest of all of them.
Indeed they do. Jimmy is a DOG.
Game 7 isn’t disappointing either.
Jokic is amazing.
Wow. Big balls on Murray. Win or lose, you have to love Jokic, Murray, Porter for the next 5+ years.
Murray is a dog too. Clips choking something fierce down the stretch.
Clips are an embarrassment.
Dagger from Murray! This shit is over. Wow. These last three games are unbelievable.
Clippers were too cool all year even though none of them outside of Kawhi has done shit in the postseason. You can have Paul George.
CJ McCollum is really enjoying this.
