A Weed-Dealing Central Park Manatee? Sign Me Up.

As some of you may know, a good friend of mine is married to former SNL performer Bobby Moynihan's sister. He is a very good, humble, kind dude, so I unabashedly root for good things in his career. A recent CBS sitcom (Me, Myself and I) did not work out, but Bobby is scheduled to come back in a big way on Tina Fey's next NBC show. The show is untitled, but will star Ted Danson as a newbie mayor of LA. Tina Fey is joined by her producing partner Robert Carlock for this show. The two produced 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt together, so yeah, should be good stuff. Production has been shut down, but this show will get the full press push from the brass at NBC, which ordered a full season's worth of episodes.

But I'm not here to talk about that. I'm here to talk about Loafy. Loafy is a Comedy Central show. Bobby created, wrote and executive produced the show. It's about the trials and tribulations of a weed-dealing manatee in Central Park. And yeah, Bobby voices the drug-dealing manatee.

To quote Comedy Central's VP of Digital Original Entertainment, "...clearly, now more than ever, the world needs a weed-dealing manatee and more Bobby Moynihan - not necessarily in that order."

I am certainly not an impartial judge, but Bobby has had a helluva run. Nine seasons at SNL, followed by an unbelievable voice-over run in both movies and TV. The dude has a lot of Gheorghe in him and is worth rooting for. Here is the trailer for Loafy. Charge your vape pen and get ready for Episode 1.

i will watch that.

are you guys watching "Sunderland til i die"?

i cry every other episode, it's kind of like "Friday night lights," except real.

i watched all of it. i won't spoil it, except to say that the emotional impact doesn't fade. the ownership group in the final season is an amazing collection of characters.

"We Bare Bears" is the best children's show on TV. I've considered writing a post about it it's so good. It's supposed to be a metaphor for the immigrant experience, but I think it more closely parallels life in Unit M circa 1993-94. TR is Griz, I'm Panda (who is voiced by Moynihan) and Major Tom is Ice Bear.

Hurricane and tornadoes whipped through here last night. No real damage to my place, a big tree downed in the green space out front across from me. Some fairly significant damage around town. Good luck to the rest of yous.

Trump about the COVID death toll: “It is what it is.” Just when I’d gotten to not mind that expression so much because of Team Russell.

yeah, that bummed me very much out

on the bright side, i'm getting a new tattoo with my daughter this weekend (unless we get the word that her college move-in is scheduled at that time). we're getting patton oswalt's 'it's chaos. be kind.' in each other's handwriting.

It sounded like a train.

the footage of the explosion in beirut is unbelievable. can't even imagine how many people were killed.

Isaias is causing a shit-ton of damage here in NJ. Some huge trees down, and lots of power outages in the neighborhood. We’re in the thick of the wind blasts until 3-4 PM. They say 36 mph winds until 2. No bueno.

stay safe, boys and girls.

and watch fulham play at 2:45. come on you whites!

you guys remember when we greeted jon goodstein with, 'yo, semite!'?

zson's homeboy can't play roblox because he's being punished, which essentially means I'm being punished because zson is tearing the house apart because he can't play roblox with his homeboy. zson is doing more damage than Isaias.

Perhaps you should punish hurricane zson for his tantrum, so he can't play roblox either? Go ahead and give him something to cry about.

My whole ‘hood has been out of power since 445. Area looks like a war zone immediately around me. At least three totaled cars from limbs, many huge trees strewn across houses/yards/streets.

I have the portable generator going, but can’t get Fios up. We are left w/ the few family-friendly DVDs I own. But at least food in my fridge is not going stale. Good times.

It’s pretty amazing the difference in hurricane resistance between Florida and the northeast. Folks around here don’t even bat an eye at a Cat 1-2 hurricane. I dont even consider leaving my house that is two blocks from the beach for anything below a Cat 4. I understand the factors at play here but still relatively remarkable to see (as I did on the news this evening) between the two locales.

All that said, I hope y’all get power back soon. I’ve been without power for close to a week on numerous occasions. That shit sucks wherever you are but even more so during September in Florida.

Now a lighter note: during the early stages of the pandemic my 8 year and I started either playing basketball in the front yard or skateboarding around the neighborhood each evening.

We still do one of those 3-4 times a week. It’s the best part of all of this crap. She’s getting better at both and we truly enjoy our time together. She’s also been to skate camp at the local skate park twice with another week scheduled next week. I’ve even bribed her with a new skateboard if she drops in on the big ramp next week.

Also, manatees are awesome. I’ve “adopted” multiple manatees in my life and the minor league team I worked for was the Brevard County Manatees. Dope hats.

second time the brevard county manatees have gotten run here: https://gheorghe77.blogspot.com/2015/05/better-know-your-minor-league-mascot.html?m=1

and the weird little things i’ve been able to do with my kids during this shitshow are definitely a silver lining.

Still no power. Will take days to come back on-line. Over 25% of the state’s utility customers have no power right now. In my town, only my block and part of one side street are out. No bueno.

In 2011/2012, we lost power three times for 5+ days over an 18-mo stretch. Not enjoying the prospect of another 5-day run like that.

Turns out that if you run a portable Generac generator, you run the risk of carbon monoxide getting in your house. We had the “get out immediately” alarm go off after midnight last night. Was quite a production for 90 minutes: three fire trucks, two cop cars and an ambulance. My kids showed trace amounts in their system, but not enough to require a hospital visit. Pretty sure we kept every neighbor up w/ all the commotion.

We were the second call like that in our town, and they got a third call like that when dealing with us. Check your batteries, folks.

Still over 1 MM folks in NJ w/o power. Whole tri-state area got clobbered.

Damn. Glad all are well. Had no idea the NE got it hit as it did.

rootsminer said...

Glad none of the TR fam had to go to the hospital.

We installed those crazy noisy smoke/co detectors a few years ago after a family we know lost their two boys in a house fire. It's good piece of mind, but an smoking grill or cast iron skillet can set those things off in a hurry.

Pro tip: first remove the battery from one of the detectors that didn't register the smoke so the others will shut off. If you pull the battery from the one that set it off, the others will bark until you get to all of them.

division 2 and 3 sports cancelled for the fall. obviously different economic incentives for division 1, but there is no credible argument that playing fall sports is in the best interests, healthwise, of student-athletes.

we have power but no fridge. it broke a week ago and they are on backorder because of pandemic supply chain disruptions. this would be a great time to have a fridge!

There’s any number of ridiculous stories in America but Marty Jannetty possibly confessing to a murder on a FB post is my new favorite.
