Near as I can tell, it's been close to two years since we celebrated the littles, Bite Me Randy Newman-style. That's a wrong we gotta rectify.
Fortunately, a trio of the wee-o have made sporting news over the past several weeks.
First, on November 13 Corbin Carroll was named the National League Rookie of the Year after a stellar debut campaign with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Carroll became the first rookie in history to hit 25 homers and steal 50 bases. He slashed .285/.362/.506, and compiled 30 doubles, 10 triples, 25 homers and 54 steals in 59 attempts, finishing in the NL's top ten in runs, OPS, steals, triples, and WAR. He was key to the D-Backs deep post-season run, as well, hitting two homers, driving in 10 runs, and stealing five bases as Arizona made it to the World Series before falling to Texas.
Of note, Carroll is listed at 5'10", 165 pounds. We have questions. He's also dating Miss America 2022, Emma Broyles, which is a victory for short kings everywhere.
Last week, FC Cincinnati attacking midfielder Luciano Acosta, all 5'3" of him, was named the 2023 Major League Soccer Most Valuable Player. Including the playoffs, Acosta scored 17 goals and recorded 14 assists for the league's best regular-season side, contributing to nearly half of FC Cincinnati's 64 goals.
I've been a Luchi fan for some time, ever since he made his debut in 2016 for my local eleven, DC United. He scored 24 goals and delivered 35 assists in 126 matches for the Black and Red before departing for a season in Liga MX with Atlas. He returned to MLS with Cincinnati in 2021. During his time with DC, he was the exclamation point on one of Wayne Rooney's most remarkable highlights.

Dreadful loss by 'Narchs, nice win by Tribe. W&M missing three starters, I think, played seven guys as rob pointed out. Shot 50 pct overall, 48 pct from 3, which I guarantee frosted ODU coach JJ to no end.
Yipes, a worse loss than I had figured. Nice job by the alma mater… long bad road ahead for the local Sun Belteds.
Wow… Yanks get Soto. And on their way to get Yamamoto. Sounds like the Bombers aren’t satisfied with 82-80 and missing the playoffs. Or they’re just going for people with names that rhyme with Yacht Rock adjacent band Toto.
Maybe one last hurrah in pinstripes for Joey Voto?

Things I learned when I fell down a baseball nerd data rabbit hole earlier this AM:
- Ellis Burks got a ring with the '04 Sox. Always liked that dude in the late 80's and 90's and hoped in vain he might roam CF for the Mets. He only played 11 games for Boston in 2004 and wasn't on the postseason roster, but he was part of that club enough that they gave him a World Series ring. Pretty cool.
- Speaking of their playoff roster in 2004, of the 25 BoSox who bested the Yankees that fall, a startling 8 would go on to play in the Bronx at some point following that historic season. Not one player on the 2004 Yankees playoff roster ever played for Boston after that. I guess the Sox had seen what they could do and weren't interested.
Now ya know. Whether or not ya care.

Ramiro Mendoza went from the yankeees to the sawks. When I lived in Boston he was jokingly referred to as the mended Yankee because he played so poorly.

True about the limited amount of games, though it's always jarring to see your boys wearing enemy colors. Like Lenny in Phillie red or Reyes in stupid Marlin teal.

Yep. I’ve reasonably blocked out Art Monk’s season in Philly. It’s profane. He only caught six passes, but it doesn’t matter. It was gross to have him in that uniform.
