So...TJ sends the G:TB staff an email last night letting us know that there is a default picks post in the drafts section last night. So, I go to the drafts section this morning in order to enter my picks, and what do you know, TJ has labeled the post as 'default picks post', dropped all of one picture in the post and...that's it. No words, no picks, nothing. I swear to you, the man's laziness knows no bounds. Its a good thing I'm here to keep things moving on the best college football weekend of the year.
Alabama (-4) at Mississippi: This game looked a lot more intriguing during the preseason than it does now. At that time, Mississippi looked like they might have the talent, depth and experience to hang with a talented Crimson Tide team who might be the best team in America. However Houston Nutt, as he is wont to do, seems to have found a way to fuck things up in Oxford. Is it fair to blame the Rebels' collective inconsistency and underachievement all on Houston Nutt? Probably not. Am I going to anyway? Yep. Listen folks, Houston Nutt just isn't that great a football coach. He's crazy, he makes terrible in-game coaching decisions and, for whatever reason, his teams display a consistent inability to, well, play consistently smart football. With that said, I expect Mississippi to play at a high level today. For all his faults, Nutt can get his teams up for big games (see: Mississippi at Florida 2008, Arkansas vs. LSU 2007 and on and on and on) and the Rebels' season depends on this game. They're going to come out swinging offensively and give the Tide all they want behind the voices of 50,000+ drunk racists waving Confederate flags (Why would a black kid play at Ole Miss again?). It won't be enough though. Alabama is too good and too well coached to lose this game. Make no mistake about it, they circled this game on their calendar this offseason too and they'll be ready. Trent Richardson and Mark Ingram each score a TD and Greg McElroy throws for over 250 yards as the Tide rolls over the Rebels.
Wisconsin at Ohio State (-16): You know how I feel about Terelle Pryor. What you may not know if how I feel about Ohio. I loathe Ohio. I interned in Cleveland one summer in grad school and, despite living downtown within walking distance of Jacobs Field and numerous bars and working out of Cleveland Browns Stadium, it was hell. Cleveland's a fucking ghost town at night. If you can afford to live outside of Cleveland...you do. And Cleveland might as well be Athens or Rome when compared to shitholes like Akron, Youngstown and Toledo. Seriously, Ohio is hell on earth. Maybe that's why there's so much good music that comes out of Ohio (RJD2, The Black Keys, Blueprint...). Something about all the pain and suffering of having to live there must inspire greatness.
What's that? Oh. Apparently I was supposed to be talking about football. Well then...Wisconsin's a fraud. They can run the ball pretty well behind big John Clay (Do they even recruit tailbacks under 230 lbs. in Madison?) but they don't have much else to speak of offensively and Ohio State's defense is good. Very good, in fact. The Buckeyes will trip over their own feet a bit on offense in the early going but they'll eventually get it going in the second half (with the help of some turnovers created by that D) and drop Wisconsin for the first time this season. See Ohio? I don't totally hate all of you...just most of you.
Florida (-8) at LSU: I normally try and stay away from picking Gator games. I don't even pretend that I'm rational about Gator Football. I am not, not even close. I am, however, highly informed. I read everything I can get my hands on. I belong to two separate pay sites/message boards where I read practice reports, "insider reports" and the Drudge report. It borders on a sickness. Its been especially bad these last two weeks. Not just because of the Tebow situation but also because of the health (or lack thereof) of a number of other key players like Deonte Thompson, Matt Patchan, Lawrence Marsh, Brandon Spikes and Riley Cooper. Other than Patchan (out for the year with an ACL tear), all should be healthy, ready to go and close to 100% for tonight's game. That's good, because I won't be near 100%. I'm already a nervous wreck and I've got over 9 hours to go before kickoff. This is, unquestionably, the biggest SEC game of the year so far and, more than likely, the biggest SEC game of the year. Add to that, the time and place of the game and the drama and suspense surrounding Tebow and this game is just about everything you could ever ask for out of a big time college football game. As Jerry said, "nothing can beat a big college football game in the fall as a singular awesome event." And he's right. If you like football (as well as booze, food and wild parties) you want to be at this game tonight. Hell, I'd even disguise myself as Les Miles' hat in order to get into this game tonight. Sadly, I'm not as big as Les' hat, so that won't work.
So, I'll just say this: I think that Florida is the better team, with or without Tebow. I think that Florida's defense is due for a breakout game, and I think that Urban Meyer is going to have his team ready to play its most complete game of the year tonight in Tiger Stadium. Then again, its become clear to me this week that I, for all my bravado and confidence, don't know shit. I mean, Greg has a girlfriend who he refers to as his "sexy little chipmunk" and I turn 32 years old today. It's a brave new world out there kids. Gators win...and cover.

Yeah....and happy birthday!!!
Auburn D doesn't look like they're in the mood to tackle.
Tebow is almost definitely going to add to his legend tonight.
So did TJ put the "default picks post" up just so it would look like he wrote it? Pretty sneaky, sis.
i don't think tebow's going to play...just a hunch.
auburn getting schlacked.
urban's got some neck hair he needs to get taken care of
Um, I just caught up on the rhombus from yesterday.
I was clearly one of the only people working on Friday.
Whitney--I had no idea you knew me so well. And Dan, I'm the second girl on the left in the photo from today's post--with the Gators camisole. I actually wore that same outfit to work yesterday.
Somebody give Shlara a raise. While you're at it, hit TJ in the balls and see if you can get Greg's balls out of his chipmunk's purse.
schlara - i'm happily married to a beautiful young lady, and with one terrific child, a boy no less. my bride is open minded. she too, would like to meet you. just let us know when & where. hugs & kisses.
auburn game getting quite interesting
can't decide on drink of choice for duration...a guinness for the moment, but what for the long-term? do tell.
I usually go cheap domestics on long Saturdays. Not to filling and you can build a nice solid manageable buzz with them.
Things I've learned about the SEC this week:
Auburn's defense sucks.
I'm still really concerned about Arkansas' visit to Gainesville next Saturday.
Things I already knew about the SEC this week:
I fucking hate Tennessee.
that would be the wisest decision...too early for another vodker. will head over to bud lites, for the drinkability, and close the night out with ginger and something brown - crown, buhben, or some cap'n...
hard core bitches & bros...
http://www.nmnathletics.com/newMediaPlayer/consolewmp.htm?type=live&oemid=23040
I hope everybody gets to see Eric Berry's midair, one-handed fumble recovery and return.
What a beast he is. Everything you could ever want in a defensive back.
not much to be said for the early games
Some Hot Todd Reesing action on Versus right now.
I cannot get enough of listening to Houston Nutt. He's a special kind of crazy.
The Grove may be great (I certainly hope to go one day), but Vaught-Hemingway Stadium is a fucking dump.
murphy's law will say these two/three games if you count uconn pitt are all going to go down to the wire.
have been to neither of those stadiums
just made a sugar free red bull & grape vodka to get the heart rate up a bit...was a bit tarred.
I don't think Mark Ingram enjoyed me saying that Trent Richardso was Bama's best tailback. Ingram's pretty god damn good and a much more versatile guy than I probably gave him credit for. Richardson is a fucking bull though.
tribe didn't come to play in boston today. fortunately, northeastern is beyond dreadful.
jmu, on the other hand, danny boy. lotta work to do the rest of the way.
now back to your regularly scheduled sec orgy.
Me write good picks posts.
Great, now Tebow's writing under TJ's name.
Are you not watching Bama Rob?
I have Wisconsin-OSU on TV2 and Pitt-UConn on TV3, by the way.
Wisconsin's offense has moved the ball surprisingly well on the Buckeyes.
Seeing Joe Clair on commercials makes me feel old. Was it really that long ago when was hosting Rap City?
There you go, all tied in Columbus.
badguhs are nice!
what's the richmond score...way too lazy to go searchn for that.
after the hofstra loss, i pretty much wrote the season off.
go badgers.
Tebow like Al Toon.
Tebow hate Merril Hoge.
watching bama now, mark. was at my daughter's softball game.
jmu lost, 21-17, dan.
note to self...stop. really...stop betting on golf.
Is betting on golf above betting on tennis? Do people bet on NASCAR more or less than golf? This intrigues me.
well, from one that occasionally bets on golf and has never bet on tennis, Yes, betting on golf is above betting on tennis.
i would guess betting on nascar takes place less than golf. have never tried it though - what makes golf intriguing is that you can bet on one player versus another, or in today's case, one twosome against another in the pres cup...
don't let it intrigue you...
it's harder than football. stay away.
Betting on Tennis is huge internationally. At least that's what I read.
bama not getting into the end zone on the last two possessions might leave a mark.
well there are documented instances within the last couple of years of fixes - russian mob and others. there was a story on it on what's his faces hbo sho - gumbel the douchebag....but a good story
tebow cleared...will he play
TEBOW SMASH...and play.
As I've been saying all week, he will play. I think Brantley's going to ply as well.
i concur on the brantley call...i think he'll start in fact. but hey, i'm losing every bet on the table so what do i know.
wisc has some really tidy receivers. and by tidy, i mean god awful.
little concerned with alabama's efforts in the red zone today. not at all concerned with the defense.
I'm getting the feeling that the Gators are going to play a "we're the fucking Florida Gators" game tonight. They're due for one.
Most interesting game of the day (for me) so far was Richmond-JMU. Everything else was kind of crap. Duke-NC State is actually decent.
didn't see jmu - but heard they had it 1st and goal w/a minute left and backup qb fumbled...
i guess after last year's hail mary's and heroics it had to happen
are you watching duke/nc state? can't find it
stricker has put on the putting clinic of all putting clincs today...6 birdies in 14 holes
also - greg norman and chrissy everett = DONE. i guess she finally found out he's the biggest prick on the planet. good for you chris.
Duke's two starting WRs are named Donovan and Conner. Yeah, that sounds about right.
just taught my daughters the ace ventura talking out your ass bit. wife status: nonplussed.
Is this the longest day ever? I say yes.
yes. especially if you've been watching ford ironman. 7 hours in.
When the longest day ever is your birthday... life is good.
I'll tell you how good a day it is on about 3 hours.
i bet on lsu mark so you should be in the clear
indiana almost beats michigan and then gets demolished by uva, who lost convincingly to william & mary. what the fuck is going on here?
mark - not to try and jinx ya here, but gators win this game by 3 td's +...
that's uva's m.o. every year - it's why groh still gets a paycheck
you can't run that end-around shit against an sec defense. not one that develops that deep in the backfield, anyway.
okay, maybe not 3 td's.
rob - what was the name of your buddy that was in augusta a couple of weeks ago?
jason thomas
t-bob? seriously?
dear abby:
i've spent the last four years trying really hard to hate tim tebow. really hard. and i just can't, dammit. dude's too good to be true. i love his game. i can't help rooting for him. please help.
signed,
but i draw a line at the baby jesus stuff
rootn hard for gatr's in 2nd half
have tried hat'n tebow - it only makes things worse. we'll see a movie about this guy one day, him and jimmy clausen
so the cardinals, huh?
per chip over at the wheelhouse, usa/honduras will be on http://atdhe.net/9796/watch-honduras-vs-usa at 10:00.
mark - you breathing easy yet? uf scores here.
i don't think much of lsu, but they're following the formula pretty well tonight. keep florida close. win it late.
"Asshole-o mio!"
Late to the party, Rob, but glad you're using your ass to amuse your kids. I fart in front of my 2 year-old son about 20 times/day. He laughs every time and I do too.
Feels like a UF defensive td is coming up.
tr, farting's a foregone conclusion. today was a graduate-level class.
I enjoy the Danielson-Lundquist pairing, but not as much as Urban Meyer loves GIANT HEADPHONES. Does he have those hooked up to a high-fi stereo on the bench? What the fuck is up wth those massive things? They're the size of corn muffins.
Ga Tech/FSU not exactly a defensive battle over on espn2
when you've got as much genius as urban, takes a lot to keep it contained.
If it starts raining heavily they plan to use Verne's neck skin to cover the field.
2009 gambling = gone0h
zeros at halftime in honduras.
this is going to move obama up in the heisman race
has anyone else noticed that jefferson isn't very good? he's no jamarcus russell.
Maybe it's the 6-pack of Carib talking, but Taco Bell's Black Jack Taco is starting to look a bit enticing.
i like fergie
Those butterfly kisses between Tebow and Urban were adorable.
nice game for tebow, but player of the game is a bit of fellatio nobody needs or believes.
ohhh, tebow so close to making it through an interview without mentioning God. so close.
Hey, Denard Robinson, you're not in Run DMC. Ties your damn shoes.
The way Denard is playing, RichRod will let him play without his pants.
much maligned conor casey equalizes after honduras scores in the 46th minute. usa/honduras 1-1 early second half.
Spikes and Cunningham were the players of the game.
Florida's offense was inconsistent and a bit sloppy but, at the end of the day (haha), the Gator D dominated the second half and this game shouldn't have been as close as it ended up being. Still, it's a 10 point win over a top 5 team on the road against a team that hasn't lost at home ona Saturday night in 3-4 years. This win will get underrated nationally but it's a huge win and an impressive one for the D.
Musberger has called brandon minor by the wrong name about 5 time. keeps calling him travin minor.
i mean travis minor
Defense us extremely fucking optional in this GT-FSU game.
ugh
conor casey, again. 2-1 us of a.
landycakes! 3-1 murrica.
allegedly bogus goal for the hondurans. 3-2 usa with 10 minutes to play.
honduras miss a pk in the 85th minute. whooooo.
usa headed to south africa. nice. who's going?
will not be heading to s africa to watch soccer. love the enthusiasms though.
Yesterday worked out pretty well for me. All my picks came covered, Gators won, I got drunk for free and I'm not that hungover today. Everything's coming up Hughes!
Went to a concert last night, local VA band we liked in high school (Indecision) reuniting for kicks. Didn't get out of control, just civilized-hammered. Came to this bar today for a burger, but now, after 3 screwdrivers, I am right back where I was at 3am. Loaded. This is so much better a way to watch the Skins.
Too bad the Bucs aren't on the bye. Then you'd have an awesome weekend of football.
Skins defense has held the panthers to 4 plays on 2 drives to start the game. I... did not expect that.
Have I ever mentioned that I hate Michael Clayton?
Yes? Well, I really, really hate that worthless fuck.
Mark, watch what you say. rob loves him some George Clooney.
Oh! And I just remembered this. Last night a friend's wife used "it is what it is" in conversation last night. I paused for a few seconds or so, gauging whether I needed to weigh in... and then I did. I think I really impressed her with understated references like "the single most retarded utterance ever concocted."
You should have said "you sound like Bill Parcells."
Bills and Browns have combined for 112 total yards of offense after one quarter. The Browns have not completed a pass yet. My prediction could be off.
The Bucs suck, obviously, but I have to say that I enjoy Josh Johnson infinitely more than Byron Leftwich.
In fact, when Raheem Morris ends up trading him so that Josh Freeman can be the starter (which is only a matter of time because Freeman is Morris' guy), I'll continue to root for Johnson. He's got a ton of potential, carries himself like he belongs and seems to be loved by his teammates.
Ahmad Bradshaw has more yards than the Bills and Browns combined.
Where did Josh Johnson come from? The Bucs have two Joshes. Not a lot of Joshes in the NFL.
Thank the Lord for Dave Casper.
We're almost 20 minutes into the game and the Browns haven't completed a pass yet. But they are tied with the Bills.
The University of San Diego. The Fighting Whale Vaginas.
And with that praise, Johnson fumbles a 4th down snap that is returned 70 yards for a TD. Bucs suck, Bucs suck.
No TD for the Eagles. Bucs still suck.
Blame the offensive line, but also ask Clinton Portis if maybe he'd like to rethink taking it wide rather than diving over the line. Moron. Know your shitty o-line.
Stephon Heyer, practice squad candidate.
Browns STILL haven't completed a pass, but they are beating the Bills.
Browns are on pace for ~206 rushing yards.
I'm currently flanked by Panthers fans on the left and Red Sox fans on the right. It is what it is.
Is it ever something other than what it is? Can it ever be?
That last comment was for Shlara. Very philosophical, as if I majored in philosophy.
I suppose something could be what it was...
Are we sure Tony Romo isn't retarded?
But if it is what it was, then what it was is what it is. And so it is what it is, necessarily.
I continue to like and enjoy Josh Johnson.
Exactly, Zoltan.
Notwithstanding the safety, Portis does look a bit more willing to run upright this week. He's the only Skins RB that can passblock, so it'd be nice to be able to keep him in more.
Bills just lost 13 yards on three consecutive plays inside the redzone. They are no longer in the redzone.
Mark, I forgot to mention that Shlara loves sarcasm as well. Major points being scored.
Bills didn't score. Even though they had 1st and 10 on the Cleveland 17.
Did you know?Every team the Redskins have played this season has been winless going into their meeting.
I continue to enjoy JaMarcus Russell and his unbelievable lack of pocket awareness.
Zoltan, I would prefer it if you would continue this snide Bills updating the whole game, and I'm not being sarcastic. Love it.
If you insist. At the half, Bills and Browns have combined for 12 first downs. 231 total yards of offense. 4/15 on 3rd down. Browns have 1.7 net yards per pass. Bills have 3.4 net yards per pass. Both teams are 0-1 in the redzone.
This game is putrescence.
69 net passing yards in the game. At least that's cool.
But only 3 sacks for -10 yards.
Bills are coming up big in one area though - 8 penalties for 45 yards. A well-coached, disciplined club.
And we're tied at 3-3!! Huzzah for the Bills' offense.
Meanwhile, the Jints are woodshedding the Raidiz.
Scratch what I said earlier: the cocklick next to me is not a Panthers fan; he just confessed to being. Cowboys fan. I may buy him a few drinks and insist he's fine to drive home.
The Raiders are so bad it's unwatchable. And I've been vomited on twice by my kid.
Tell the Skins management that Sinorice Moss is likely to be available this week. He has badly muffed a punt and a kick-off in this game. Not good when your team has 6-7 other young, hungry and talented WRs.
JaMarcus jasucks so goddamn jamuch. I wonder if he's even heard of the Giant defenders that are crushing him. In all fairness, Oakland's O-Line jasucks balls.
Dierdorf just said something like "I have never seen a quarterback as bad at sliding as Jamarcus Russell is" after Russell slid and fumbled the ball away.
Brian Moorman is locking up a Pro Bowl berth - 213 yards on 4 punts. He also threw a 25 yard TD in week 3. Not a good sign when your punter is your best offensive option.
Is it a given that the new Bills owner (after the old guy dies) will move the team?
Can anyone explain how the bad calls are always going the way of the Yankees and Red Sox without using conspiracy theories?
Derek Anderson and Trent Edwards are, combined, 14/35 for 144 yards, 0 TD and 2 INT.
The bad calls are indeed fixed. Seriously. And for Yanks/Sawks it's fixed in favor of the Yanks. Ask "rob" how he feels about Knoblauch's "Phantom Tag."
The Bills will hopefully move to Toronto, or even beter Winnipeg. Then perhaps I can give up on them.
Marshawn Lynch just negated a first down by garnering an unnecessary roughness penalty. Well done.
Loving this meltdown by the Sawx pen...
the sox had multiple dreadful calls go against them in game 1 of this series. that shit evens out, as you know.
did anyone see the touchdown ray rice just scored? mercy.
jonathan papelbon, going all the way bad. well, nice season while it lasted.
Loading the bases for Vladdie = unwise, even if he's really 40 years old.
Nice knowing you, 2009 Red Sox!
Even after that "Johnny Thomas moment," he's the second most disappointing Westbrook ever to play for the Skins.
And I forgot to repeat my post from a couple weeks ago that Billy Wagner always spits the bit in big moments. Not a good $2 MM investment for that redneck.
I'm guessing Rob's teaching his daughters some other new stuff.
Moorman: 7 punts, 364 yards, 52 yard average.
fortunately, they're both outside playing.
4 minutes left, Browns start at their own 20. Can we get a 3-3 tie?
Just over 3 minutes left and the Browns have 2 completions. And they are tied.
Roscoe Parrish just fumbled a punt, Browns recover at the Bills 16. Kill me. Please. Just end it.
Wasn't this game 17-2? I'm watching it, but I still don't get how the Skins are gacking this one up.
God Forbid the Skins get into another 3rd and 4. I can't take that quick slant play one more time.
I can't accept that the Skins are just going to lose 20-17. It's either going to overtime or Carolina will score again.
And the Browns get a first down. 1st and goal from the 5. They should just kick the FG now.
Jim Zorn will be added to the proud 9.8% tomorrow around 10am.
welp, three straight losses. not very good.
/spurrier
the angels deserve that win. they beat the shit out of the sox in every facet of the game. hope they hammer the yankees. and steal a-rod's girlfriend.
ah, and i see the cowboys are going to win. lovely fall sunday in my house.
Bills have 23 seconds to score 3 points to force OT.
i may be seeing things, but it looks like jake delhomme just beat deangelo hall in the open field. but that's not possible. wonder what i actually saw.
The Bills gave up 23 passing yards. And they will lose.
A little bit of a tangent here, but the know-nothing announcers in the Skins game (and let's face it, if you're doing the Skins-Panthers game, you suck balls) just referred to an often used, always misused principle of thought in football: if you get your hands on the ball, you should always catch it. It's not true.
Devin Thomas was running as fast as he could, looking over his left shoulder, and the ball came well over his other shoulder. He looked directly up, followed the errant pass, and made a desperate lunge for the ball. He got his hands on it, but barely - and in a frenzy. Woulda been a fantastic catch, but it's not a bad drop simply because palms made contact with pigskin.
Toughest catch I ever made in high school football didn't count. 40-yard chuck, it faded over my other shoulder, I watched it over right, then straight up, then over left, and I caught it. Out of bounds. No credit for it, but it was the hardest catch. Devin Thomas sucks, but still...
Holy Smokes, does my team suck. DeAngelo should have to walk home.
I've never been less upset about a Skins loss.
You have to see Tony Siragusa's outfit today. It's a black golf shirt underneath an all-black shirt/blazer/jacket thing with a butterfly collar. He's topping it off with a ridiculous pair of black shades that looks like a cross between Oakley blades and the giant brown shades that old men wear. And he's wearing those glasses on a cloudy San Fran day. Maybe he's high.
The Albert/Johnston/Moose trio may be the worst announcing team going these days.
Edwards just threw a pass while his foot was over the line of scrimmage, and Hank Poteat didn't pick it off because he borrowed Rodell's hands for this game. Terrible.
7 seconds left, 55+ yards from the endzone. Edwards throws a lateral pass to Roscoe Parrish, who runs up the sideline, pitches it backwards to a guy who didn't know they were running the Stanford/Cal play, fumbles it, Browns recover. Home crowd boos lustily. Browns get their first win. TO is going to cut Van Pelt's throat.
Nice pair of games here in the NYC area: New England-Denver and Atlanta-San Fran.
Derek Anderson: 2 of 17 for 23 yards? How can one suck that bad?
Maybe the Bills will get Tebow.
Back in the 90's Alex Van Pelt actually had a worse game than 2/17 for 23, but the Bills didn't win. The Browns won with 23 passing yards (22 net!). Amazing.
These Denver unis are atrocious.
Holy shit - take a look at Denver's uniforms.
wildcat!
those uniforms are phenomenal. and up against the old school patriots togs, too. this is a festival for the eyes.
The socks are cool, in an EM Escher sort of way.
and maybe i'll be wrong about the cowboys. that'd be small comfort.
wildhorse!
The argyle endzone is phenomenal.
yay cowboys. sweet.
just found out i have club seats to the 11/15 skins/broncos game. i'm now fervently hoping denver wears these uniforms. it'll be the clear highlight of the afternoon.
Denver won't wear those unis. The old AFL unis seem to only come out when old AFL teams play each other.
don't ruin my dream, tr.
Sadly, TR is right. It's only when the old AFL franchises square off against each other. Like "We know we put our tails between our legs and let you annex us in 1970, but we choose to look back fondly and honor that defeat proudly by wearing the world's least attractive uniforms ever stitched together. Hooray AFL!"
fine. i'll wear one that day.
I like the retro unis. And the geeky throwback outfir Denver's press guy is wearing.
And as for the Cowboys, are you allowed to pile on each other in wild, hysterical celebration when it took you OT to beat the Kansas City Chiefs?
Boys, you've got to love Shlara sharing more about what she likes. It's like she's giving away the playbook, and you're there to read the plays!
Also, I'm not sure what "outfir" is, but you can be damn sure Mark, Dan & Zoltan will be sporting some soon!
For the record, I could have gone way dirtier with "outfir." Way . . . dirtier.
