Gheorghemas Interlude: Eight Toes Down with Coach Prime and Ralphie

You'd think it wouldn't be all that hard to recap a year with only 183 posts (we hit my unannounced goal of one post every other day, and huzzah to all of us for that), and you'd be correct. And yet here we are, still waiting on me to finish tying up the year in review post so that Whitney can immediately drop the final post of the season.

Instead, you get some filler to tide you over.

It is no secret the Deion Sanders is blessed with an abundance of charisma. He's tailor-made for the modern era, brilliant on social media and in front of cameras. He's made a bit of a reality show about his process of adapting to Boulder, and yesterday gave us this bit of comedy gold:

Prime was great, but Taylor Stratton, the CU Buffs Mascot Program Manager was every bit his equal as the straight (wo)man. It's a great little Gheorghemas snack.

Hi Gheorghies.

Congrats to gelding Speaker of The House, Kevin McCarthy. 15th time was the charm.

So does this mean we now have a Speaker of the House but he is utterly beholden to the fringiest elements of the legislature who just want to see the government dismantled?

Marls said...

No, but it means we have a Speaker of the House who has little or no ability to control his caucus and has provided the fringies the power to additionally undermine his control. It feels like he got the title but lost the actual job. He will get a bust in the capital and likely get pushed out like Ryan and Boehner.

At least he'll make it longer than Bob Livingston...

Hey, so in the nearby city where Donna lives, a 6-year-old first grader brought a gun to school and shot his teacher. Life threatening injuries. What can anyone say at this point?

Marls said...

The only thing that stops a bad kid with a gun is a good kid with a gun? Seems like the only logical thing to do is make sure all 6 year olds are armed.

Whitney said...

I’m sure the “All teachers should be armed” argument will be exhumed. Shooting first graders dead in self-defense is such a pretty picture.

Then you pry the gun from the child's cold dead hands.

School is about 10 miles NW in NN going toward Williamsburg. Teacher is 25. Story is kid had altercation with teacher in the classroom, pulled gun out and shot at her and no one else. Pretty fast security and police response, all other kids got out and to safety quickly. But horrifying that this young child comes to school with gun. And thinks this is the way to solve problems. OMDL!
But am I shocked? No. This is the America we’ve chosen, at least that we allow lawmakers to keep in place. Such bullshit. People who say they’re shocked, I don’t know why. Not after event after event after event after event. So depressing though. Here’s to hoping the teacher recovers fully. Here’s to hoping the kid gets serious help with facing consequences. Here’s to hoping Newport News finds better ways to keep weapons out of schools. Hug your peeps!

Doug Peterson gets my Coach of Year vote.
A turnaround of epic proportions after the Urban experiment.

duuuuuuval!

That was a much more fun game than I anticipated. And I concur with Dan on Pederson. Not only for the turnaround of the team but, imo, more importantly the turnaround of Lawrence. Was a real chance the franchise cornerstone QB was going to be a lost cause after year one. Future looks bright for the Jags.

Wife got me a soundbar for Xmas. I mentioned that it would be cool to have one a few times whilst watching football this fall. It’s well worth the money. Kind of excited to watch a movie with it now.

I just got around to watching the clip from this post and it hit me (and y’all should be ashamed), the next (major) summit is a Boulder summit.
