Whitneypedia: My Name Is Michael Caine

Resting in Peace, a couple of rockers from yesteryear.

Spencer Davis, whose namesake band released the all-timer "Gimme Some Lovin'" in 1966, when singer Steve (then called Stevie) Winwood was just 18. The song went to #7 on the Billboard US Hot 100. Also covered by The Blues Brothers for their film, that version went to #18. Mr. Davis was 81.

Tony Lewis, bassist and vocalist for the band The Outfield, known almost exclusively for their massive 1986 hit "Your Love." Josie's on a vacation far away and all that. It went to #6 on the US Hot 100, one better than GSL. Mr. Lewis was 62 and British, which you cannot tell from his singing. He claimed his friends said he spoke like Michael Caine, and that wouldn't do well in a rock song.

Unless you're Madness and you have a pop song with Michael Caine saying "My name... is Michael Caine" in the middle of the song! The song is called... wait for it... "Michael Caine."

And if you like how Michael Caine speaks and/or silliness, check out this scene from The Trip.

Until the next time... Gimme Some of Your Love, Michael Caine.

Coca-Cola is discontinuing Tab cola. Which I was sure had happened in 1995.

And, unfortunately for Virginians, Northern Neck ginger ale.

I know the current VA gov is trying to protect the neck's signature beverage. He should team up with former gov Linwood Holton, who I believe still lives in the Northern Neck. I played a wine social at his swanky assisted living facility once.

Ya best protect ya neck.

Slow news day here

50% of Coke's beverage brands contribute 0.5% of their revenue. They need to trim a ton of dead weight.

Unrelated - I don't see myself watching one second of tonight's debate.

I’m definitely not watching it either, TR. Thinking about it, it’s very similar to the football game that is on tonight. A couple of irrelevant jokes, one significantly better than the other, playing for control of their realm, but impressing nobody.

trump's gonna try to wrestle biden tonight, isn't he?

Leg wrestle

Giants money line paying 3 to 1, so I bit on that. I think the Giants will play better after a win, and I think the Eagles will have a home field disadvantage. They are not good and the home fans will lay into them early and often.

Was debating the under (O/U at 44.5), but the Eagles may put up some points and the Giants have Shepard back.

I'm due for a whiff on a bet. This may be it.

It's telling that Tiki Barber's jersey number (21) has been used by the Giants since the moment he left. He is 15th all-time in career yards from scrimmage (15,632) and was a stud for seven straight years, but he was a major league douchebag on his way out. Karma, bitches.

Fox played a little Chalkdust Torture on their outro. They played Stash on Sunday. There’s a Phishhead in the production booth.

Had my folks over for dinner tonight. I was doing some steaks on the grill and the wife was doing pasta and clams/clam sauce. And then our gas grill shit the bed. Thankfully, one of her parents restaurants is up the street so she went up there to cook. Still, not exactly ideal when you have guests for dinner and are trying to time out multiple dishes.

Also not ideal, possibly having to replace a gas stove. I hope/think it’s still under warranty...

TR said...

Wow, that is a bummer on multiple levels. Hope there is warranty coverage. A grill can hold you over for a bit, but a stove is a necessity for sure.

Would be nice for me to live in a world where I could trust my wife to cook a nice seafood dish.

Widespread Panic’s Porch Song is the latest outro. Lots of 90’s jam tunes! Clearly there is a 40-something head working clandestine at Fox.

On other networks, we learned something yuuge: JOE BIDEN IS NOT AN INNOCENT BABY!

Daniel Jones goes for 80 on the ground! And then trips over the 10 yd line!

Giants got ball on their own 5 with 13:28 left in the 4th after stopping the Eagles on 4th and goal.

They ended their drive with 6:17 left with a TD pass. Giants up 11. Lots of time left, but this is the mother of all momentum changes for the Giants’ season.

Drive was actually 97 yds. My bad.

That didn’t end well.
