Caption This

I was driving down the Main Street of my town this week. I found myself behind this vehicle and its interesting cargo. If the bear was in any other position, I may not have paid it much mind. But it was in a seated position, with its head sagged down, amid a rubbish-filled bed of an industrial truck.

Who's got the best caption? Winner gets a home-cooked Hungarian Beef Goulash dinner from Zman.

I'll start with two:

"Now that's a damn shame, when folks be throwing away a perfectly good teddy bear."

"I had no idea Ted 3 was filming in our town."

2020 has really taken its toll on Cocaine Bear.

CFB thoughts:

Today feels like the closest thing to a real CFB Saturday since last fall.

Indiana has an actual, real football program. I am as surprised as you are.

Guess what? Tennessee still sucks.

Good for you, Rutgers

That Indiana-PSU 4th quarter and OT was bonkers. Mental errors on both sides and some spectacular plays.

Middle of 1st and Fox goes with Dead. Nice.

driving through richmond this afternoon after a target run with my kidlet. long line of trump-festooned cars and trucks going the opposite direction on broad street. my kid rolls down her window, leans out, flips double birds and yells ‘fuuuuuuuuck youuuuuuuu’ for several blocks. raised her right. i think.

Tweezer outro. Fox production team clearly tripping balls.

I’m calling Run Like an Antelope for the 7th inning stretch.

Many of you know the Dr Pepper Fansville ad campaign. I recently found out that the voice-over guy is a college friend of one of my best high school friends. So I guess I’m kind of a big deal.

Other than Rob’s foul-mouthed daughter, you all are a pretty lame bunch tonight.

C’mon, Fox. Van Hagar!?

What?? Dude. Someone took your car for a joyride.

they’d better figure out how to roll back the odometer

never trust valet parking

that's my caption for the bear, not advice for rob.

I'm assuming my lotso caption won the goulash?

Good luck with the car Rob. That's one I've never heard before.

My favorite button music moment from game 4 was the Arozerena homer that cleared the wall before Rhinestone Cowboy had finished.

I nodded off in the 9th and my 14 year old, who could not care less about baseball, was suitably entertained by the ending to awaken the tired old man on the couch.

also assuming no one ever typed that sequence of words before now

this wildflowers reissue is amazing

Shitty teams giving us fun games in Atlanta and Cincinnati today.

Hey, Rob, what hotel? I worked at a swanky one in Richmond during grad school, and concierges there would share stories about what happened to y’all! Don’t tell anyone.

rob said...

the graduate, which probably wasn't there when you were. we really like the hotel, and it's only blocks from our kid's dorm. the hotel refunded our parking fees and did their best to help us, but it's a pretty big fuckup.

Mark said...

Justin Herbert is already so much better than I thought he’d be.

Whitney said...

What’s the hotel’s explanation?

rob said...

they don't have one. just lost 'em. it was a clusterfuck around the valet area when we dropped off after dinner last night. i'm guessing they got dropped or left in a pocket during the scramble.

My kid is moving up to New Jersey to be the nanny for good friends of ours. They lived in Brooklyn and recently relocated to Jersey as they have kids who just started school and preschool. They both still work in the city though and they desperately need help with all the logistical items of child rearing. She’s doing online college so she can do it from anywhere and this gives her a chance to get some exposure to New York. Like many young people, she thinks she’d like to live there. She leaves on 11/13. My wife is going to be a mess. Anywho, looks like I’ll be in Jersey at some point in 2021. I expect a big welcome from the G:TB Jersey contingent.

TR said...

Mark - what town will she be going to?

TR said...

My 5th grader’s tackle football team is a hot mess. The coach is a tool who treats it like rec and the kids are not at all prepared, relative to the teams we play. My guy is a decent athlete, but the playing time seems random. He finally got a ball thrown to him today. Ran a post pattern, caught it and ran a bit for a 20-yd gain. Proud moment.

Our enthusiasm faded in the 4th qtr, when some dickhead kid on the other team blindside blocked him w/ a helmet-to-helmet hit. Not a concussion, but he got popped and it was a penalty, and that was his day. My wife was alarmed b/c he was walking slow immediately afterwards. Turns out he wasn’t dazed, but he was embarrassed to be crying. So he tried to walk slow and avoid other people.

Time to put him in a STEM class.

Rays busting out the throwback hats. They are terrible and the usual hats are beautiful

Mark said...

She’ll be in River Edge.

rob said...

it's a shame, because the rays uniform colors are so sharp. those hats are hideous.

Mark said...

Correct. There’s no reason to be wistful for that era of Rays baseball. Rays have great uniforms and their regular hats are one of MLB’s best.

It’s also a fucking travesty that they still play in that awful stadium in St Pete. St Pete is incredibly underrated but that area of the town sucks and it’s WAY out of the way for most of the Tampa population. They need a stadium in downtown Tampa. They’d kill it. For shit’s sake, the Lightning have a rabid fan base and an awesome pregame scene. Pretty sure the Rays could have something similar.

Mark said...

My God. That chase down by DK Metcalf.

TR said...

I am going back and forth b/w NFL and WS. Every time I switch channels, I stumble onto a crazy play. Metcalf, Lockett, a HR, an attempted steal of home (!!!). Some amazing stuff.

Mark said...

Same here. The attempted steal of home was an interesting decision.

TR said...

I hate the designed QB draws up the middle for Murray. Running a QB between the tackles is not a recipe for success.

Mr KQ said...

It's a shame about Ray.

I think the rays lids would be better it they matched the jerseys. Still pretty cartoonish and awful. Or the regular one in aqua. Did they used to wear these caps regularly?
