Florence Welch has a voice like a force of nature. And we believe in superstition and futile gestures. So here's 'Hunger' from Florence and the Machine's new record, 'High as Hope'.
The band is coming to The Anthem in D.C. on October 5. May her impending presence bring calm weather to the mid-Atlantic.

I’ve heard great things about this venue Anthem. Any of you guys been yet?
For once I don’t want to be in Morehead City
This is one of those rare times where Blue Ball is the better option.
Vito Corleone: “Anyway, I’m drinking more.”
Michael Corleone: “It’s good for you, Pop.”
Amen to you, Michael.
Have not been to Anthem, have heard it's great. We have been to Pearl Street Warehouse also at new SW waterfront. Just bought tix for Patterson Hood solo on Fri 12/7. Saw him there last time - super small venue, great vibe, fantastic show. Join us?
Also - seeing Neil deGrasse Tyson tonight so there will minimally be one smart guy in the room.
I’m watching Degrassi Junior High tonight.
I have been goatating for 14.5 hours. Suboptimal.
my company's going through a massive reorganization. i'm either gonna get a serious promotion or have my position eliminated. it's about 50/50 at this point. i predict a lot of drinking in my future. regardless of the outcome.
i might've already told you this. i don't remember so good. and stress does wonders for memory.
Good luck, my friend. Whatever happens, I plan to drink with you soon.
Best of luck, Rob. That is not a fun situation.
hi gheorghies
Hi whit
rob, good luck. since january 9th i have been livin' the re-org life, and it sucks, mentally and physically. morale low, workplace becoming toxic, an average of 1-2 people leaving every week, via either "retirement" or just shown the door. it sucks ass, and has really drained me. i took to the bottle way too often over the past few months because of work shit, much to the detriment of my actual physical health. i hope everything works out for you, and much like whit said above, next time i see ya i'll buy you a drink (or six)
my money's on "serious promotion" rob. come on...you're hedging there - it's 90/10 and you know it. know that if you're on the wrong side, coveralls do come in extra small - you can loop for me anytime.
it all comes down to whether my current boss gets to make the decisions about his new org structure. if he does, then, yes, it's more like 90/10. if not, it's a crapshoot. i've been teaching him the bill parcells 'if i'm gonna make the meal, i need to shop for the groceries' story.
I echo everyone’s sentiments as well, Rob. Seems to be a lot of that sort of thing going on for many of the G:TB staff lately. My company did much of the same recently and canned a bunch of people including my boss. There was some thought that maybe my spot or those of my colleagues would be eliminated but none of that this far. Which is good. My new boss is a micromanager and a “rah rah” guy. Neither of which is to my liking. So, ya know...good and bad.
I think McFisty is to blame for the low morale. Accidental firearm discharge can be a bummer.
Rob - don’t forget our blockchain startup.
If there’s a 50/50 chance your boss gets the nod, and a 90% chance you’re okay if he does, versus a 50/50 odds if he doesn’t get the gig, your weighted average chance of being okay is actually 70%. But we should round that down 1%.
I'm not sure I follow your logic but I agree with the result.
I was told there’d be no math.
I wandered up to the bar for a bev or two. Solo, as is my new normal for the last month. Three dudes here beside me extolling the virtues of single life to me in the most pathetic fashion. This is real life mirroring the Gas n Sip scene from Say Anything. By choice, man.
In the words of Lloyd Dobler, that was a mistake.
Say hi to Jeremy Piven for me.
He says hey, TR, bitches, man
I know that wasn’t his line but who gives a shit
Rhett Miller at the City Winery in DC tomorrow. Anyone?
Diane Court is a show pony. You need a stallion, Whit.
super-weird crossing of streams this evening. my daughter cheers with a girl who is the daughter of a guy who played quarterback for my rival high school and later became very good friends in college (at jmu) with several of my best friends from high school. and he's a super-maga trumpian. i don't know what to make of all this. my daughter also cheers with a girl whose mom dated fogtb cliffy in high school, and who showed me an amaaaazing picture this evening of our pal back when he had hair. it was an interesting evening on and off the field here in loudoun county.
jeremy piven is in new brunswick doing stand-up tonight. does that indicate his career is over?
whit, what is the story of the hurricane?
The man the authorities came to blame for something that he never done, put in a prison cell but he could’a been the champion of the world.
That’s it in a nutshell.
Anybody got strong conviction on any football lines this w/e?
Blue Falcon likes the Terps giving 16 to the Owls at home, and likes the Panthers getting 6 at Atlanta.
The wife and I took our youngest to Gainesville for a Gator game this weekend. We’re staying with friends. Left the 16 year old home with the understanding that she’d be at her cousins house last night. Of course, she’s a lying ass 16 year old so she had people over last night. She’s also a dumbass 16 year old and didn’t realize we had neighbors watching. Now she’s a grounded ass 16 year old.
Cold busted
i call entrapment on that grounding. either that or "attractive nuisance."
i guess whit is alive.
She got ill, she got busted. I don’t know if she got dust and she got dusted. I hope not for everyone’s sake.
