Days Living in Infamy

On this date in 1970:

Bobby Cox was released by the New York Yankees, ending his playing career.  He got his revenge...by tormenting the New York Mets for much of the 90s and 2000s.

Rapper Mystikal was born in New Orleans.  He's now on the Louisiana Sexual Offender Registry.

Oprah Winfrey wrote the following in her diary: "Anthony asked me yesterday to go with him and today I answered yes. I hated to go against my parents but Anthony is so perfect (almost). I couldn't just say no."

Diana Ross' 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' topped the Billboard charts.

And not a whole hell of a lot else happened.  Really, it was one of the least interesting days of the decade, or of any decade, for that matter.

Thankfully, Whitney was born to liven things up.  Happy Birthday, my man.

Thanks, little buddy.

Yeah, that picture appeared in the local paper five years ago as part of a front page news story about my hospitalization with MRSA. I'm kind of a big deal down here.

I love the two laptop setup. You're like DJ Paulie D.

don't kid yourself, you're a big deal somewhere else too.

Mrsa. Mrsa used to be one of my favorite bands of the 80's.

i'm so busy i barely have time to write them, so i always appreciate a plug.

and happy birthday whit-- serendipitously, sentence of dave is about being born today and whitney made a comment that is as insane as the content of the sentence.

Fios + DVR gets my strongest white. Through the magic of this combination I was able to watch the Bills/Raiders game today, and I can definitively state that Ryan Fitzpatrick is not the second coming of Kurt Warner circa 1999. The Raiders dropped at least 3 INT's and committed a terrible penalty on 3rd down inside the 15 that gave the Bills a new set of downs inside the 10. Absent these errors Fitzmagic would be Fitzspastic.

I'm speaking to the stereotypical (not G:TB) Skins fan when I say that nor is Rex Grossman the second coming of . . . uh, even Trent Dilfer 2000. He appears to be about 5'3" and seems to be on the verge of throwing a game-ruining INT on every play. I am savoring the 2-0 while it lasts.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I just got a junk e-mail with this title:

"If Your Penis Is Over the Hill It Is Not a Reason for Your Personal Life to Stop"

Thanks.

Happy birthday Whit. Love the photo. Makes it look like you spend the day trading derivatives from your home office in Greenwich.

Come on, let's be polite. Emails from TJ are not junk.

It's not just Whit's birthday, it's also American Business Women's Day. Whoo hoo...

Oh yeah, for those of you on twitter, Fred Smoot is now on there...and based on his Comcast appearances so far, I think the Fred Smoot twitter experience will be quite enjoyable.

How did The Sheepdogs become so relevant? Or at least prominent?

T.J. said...

I'm guessing this:

After months of competition and over 1.5 million votes cast online, the wait is over: The Sheepdogs have become the first unsigned band ever to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone. The Canadian boogie rock revivalists, who have been touring relentlessly throughout North America for six years, beat out 15 other bands for the grand prize, which includes a contract with Atlantic Records along with their faces on the cover of the August 18th issue of the magazine.

zman said...

Yeah but how did they pull that off in the first place?

Happy Bday Whitney!

And thanks TJ for the Wilco clip. Love them but won't be trekking out to Merriweather on Sunday. Too far and too much of a pain b/c I'm old and set in my ways.

On a related note, did anyone read the Letterman piece in Rolling Stone? Good stuff.
