There are not many folks who traffic this site who do not like the NBA, so this may fall on deaf ears, but I wanted to alert the music fans out there that My Morning Jacket is presenting a live concert stream of their 5/31/11 show on YouTube, starting at 9 PM EST. The show is in Louisville, KY, hometown of lead singer Jim James.
The link is allegedly this, although it is not active yet. Ifyou have problems accessing the concert, click here to be directed to the band's official website. Todd Haynes, who directed I'm Not There and Velvet Goldmine, among other projects, is directing the live concert. A trippy commercial is below.
I have been a big fan of MMJ since 2004 and I am very excited about this show, though very conflicted about this concert starting at the same time as the NBA Finals. Lead singer Jim James has a rustic Dylan-esque sensibility about his songwriting, with occasional leanings into hle love of metal as a youth. When he mentioned in an interview a few years ago that he loved Brazilian speed-metal band Sepultura as a youg teen, I was quite psyched.

They need a faster studio.
FYI - 4th seed Andy Murray losing in the 5th set of the quarters to a 15th seed I've never heard of. If Murray can pull this out, we would have the top 4 seeds still alive, with 2 already into the semis.
Djokovic is slotted to play Federer in the semis and Nadal in the finals. His streak will be lost amid the NBA, NHL and Tressel news, but it is may be the most impressive story going on in sports these days.
TR, this is the correct link. New album is pretty damn good.
I got the lime greeb vinyl edition. Pretty damn sweet looking and sounding.
Tickets for some shows go on sale today at noon.
Djokovic is out of his gourd. His streak includes 4 wins over Nadal and 3 over Federer. I'll be surprised if Djokovic plays both Federer and Nadal, I suspect that one of these two will lose. Soderling historically plays well against Nadal (relatively) and it seems like the French crowd could will Monfils to victory over Federer.
npr music (which is phenomenal) is streaming a ton of stuff from the sasquatch music festival. i believe mmj is there, as are old 97s, death cab, and a ton of other bands.
Wow. Murray was down 4-2 in the 5th set and came back to win 7-5. Takes a pair of stones to pull that off.
i wish the nba finals weren't on so late. they are past my bedtime (and jason kidd's bedtime as well).
And Jason Kidd's big headed kid's bedtime too.
Alternatively, Federer will beat Monfils like a drum in front of his cheese-eating surrender monkey countrymen.
I watched the end of Monfils/Ferrer the other night...it was good tennis. I liked. But that Monfils guy is a horrible dresser.
Is this whole Tressel situation really that surprising? Does anyone really believe that there are no crooked big-time college football programs?
ND is clean.
Cue a Tiger Woods statement from Mark here.
or better yet, queue
alabama is definitely clean.
almost got all the way through that with a straight face.
If you didn't already like Cee-Lo Green, you should turn to Palladia right now for his episode of "Storytellers." His band is four good looking women in low-cut spandex catsuits.
So when are they just going to start playing college football players?
Won't all these infractions just go away?
this game not starting until 9:00 is really cramping my old man style.
I'm bummed out that it will conflict with the new episode of 16 and Pregnant.
It's the NBA Finals. Sack up, bitches.
In related news, my old college roomate Roberto has an angle on Game 2 and Game 6 tickets. I'm torn. I'd rather go to Game 6 but I'm not sure I want to chance missing out on a Finals game. I don't think the series ends before Game 6 but it sure would suck if I passed on Game 2 and ended with no Game 6.
As for college football, everyone is fucking cheating in one manner or another. If player's aren't getting hooked up by boosters or agents then they're getting some from local businesses. And I don't think paying players changes that in a significant manner. The $ the NCAA would give players would still pale in comparison to what they could get from agents, boosters and the like.
I saw players at UF driving cars they could never have afforded, everyone did. I'm quite sure it's like that at any decent program.
Tressell is gone because he was an idiot and lied, repeatedly, to the NCAA. He didn't learn his lesson from Kelvin Sampson or Bruce Pearl. Either that or he just thought he was a step above them because he was a football coach at a place like Ohio State.
As for Ohio State, you can be pretty sure Than Matta is scared shitless right now.
bingo on tressel's lying being the cause of his demise. and boy, do i hope terrell pryor gets run out of town on a rail. that kid's gonna be a cautionary tale when he's out of the nfl in 3 years and broke in 4.
juwan howard! you the man, you the man.
Pryor's done. Even if he didn't get run out of town, there's no way he'll be eligible now.
If he was smart and/or realistic (which he clearly isn't) he'd convert to a WR in the NFL. He could be a beast with his size/speed combo. If Ronald Curry can make it work, Pryor could too. No way that will happen though and, as Rob said, he'll be out the league in no time.
How long did it take Scottie Pippen to go broke?
I've disliked Pryor ever since the news of him screwing over Penn State for the Buckeyes came out. He's immensely talented, but I've never thought he'd be successful at any position in the NFL. Too much prima donna.
MMJ concert is cool, but fairly ordinary, save for a weird side plot of a guy who looks like the Undertaker wandering around in a corridor.
With all of the entertainment available tonight, I will stay up all the way to 10:30.
Is Pat Reilly dead?
Good question on Scottie. It wasn't much more than 5 years.
I don't care where Pryor chose to go. I'd pick Ohio State over Penn State or Michigan too. As we've seen, you're a fucking god there. If he was smart, again he's not, he would've picked Oregon (in his final 4). Phil Knight takes care of you and the system is much more conducive to his strengths. He was always going to suck as an NFL QB but he could've suckered someone into taking him in the 1st round if he'd played in the spread.
