Two Great Tastes, and a Sneaking Suspicion

I can't believe it took this long for the venerable Ben's Chili Bowl to get its own GoGo anthem, but I'm glad we're here now.

When I first heard this song by DJ Mello T, it reminded me of...something. Couldn't quite put my finger on it, though.

Don't you dare try to touch "You Da Man", Jesse Jaymes

The Sports Guy is reporting that Marquis Jets founder and NBA theme-song-writing mogul Jesse Jaymes is a strong candidate to be the next owner of the Atlanta Hawks. His wife started Spanx. They aren't slackers.

While I'm excited at the prospect of a "Spanx give-away" night at a Hawks game next season (that should help improve attendance at Phillips Arena, right?)...I'm a little worried about the safety of our beloved "You the Man" theme song.

Half of the Gheorghies are lawyers, right? One of you needs to look into the copyright status of the Bullets theme song.
We can't have Jesse co-opt it for his new team.
Or sample it.

And/or, we need Ernie to keep this in mind with any ATL negotiations.

Can we get a "no trade clause" for a song??

Red Hot Action

As we hunker down for the afternoon arrival of rainmegeddon here in the DMV, I found a video that might brighten up your day.  While it can't hold a candle to the Bullets' "You Da Man", this steaming pile of awesomeness is the perfect storm of mustaches from the 80's, acid wash jeans, matching polo shirts, bad synth music with goooooooooooooood awful lyrics, air trumpet playing and terrible lip synching.   Methinks that the folks up in Calgary could have used Shalra and KQ to help with the production of this one.

You can't touch a flame when it's red hot!

See You In The Second Round, Bitches**

Bro hugs
The Washington Wizards, yes, the Washington Wizards, vanquished the higher-seeded Chicago Bulls last night in their first round playoff match-up. The Wiz last won a playoff series in 2005, coincidentally also on Chicago's home floor (we were at Champps post-softball when Gil hit the game winner), and prior to that I think the last playoff series win was in the early 80's (this is why we need a research intern). For some reason (the history of the franchise), not many folks gave Washington a chance in this series. I wasn't one of those people:

So, adios Chicago, adios Carlos Booze and his Wooly Willy beard, adios Kirk Hinrich and his Rec Specs, adios Mark's boy Joakim Noah. Only two first round playoff series have concluded so far, and amazingly one of them includes the victorious Wizards. Washington now awaits the winner of the upstart #8 seed Hawks vs. the vomiting-all-over-themselves #1 seed Pacers (seriously, I CANNOT wait until we find out what actually happened amongst the personalities in that locker room). Here's hoping that series goes a full seven games so Nene can rest his Elijah Price-esque body a few extra games.

Hey Kirk, check out this loin bump
No Washington pro hoops post would be complete without this video:

Other bits I want to include in here before I begin beating them into the virtual ground via hashtag overload:

#TheCerealKillers (for those unfamiliar with this team, they have a rather unhealthy and insatiable love of (kid's) breakfast cereal
**Cannot take credit for this headline. That is Shlara's doing. Now let's hope this team can make it to the Eastern Conference Finals.
