I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friends.

9/11 is now old enough to vote.
18 years, man.
Today is also the 18th anniversary of Slayer’s “God Hates Us All” album.
One minor perk of Spotify is seeing what your friends are playing. The Teej has been listening to a kickin' old(er) school rap melange. Slick Rick, LL, and the kings from Queens.
I most certainly have been
Slick Rick is tremendously influential yet oddly forgotten. Good for you Teedge.
I stan for Richard Martin Lloyd Walters
Hi, Stan
z, would you agree that statement also holds true for the Slick Rick extended universe: Dana Dane, Doug E. Fresh, DJ Chill Will?
that miami sound machine video is weird and priceless. don't think i ever saw it until today
The Get Fresh Crew is overlooked.
It's nice to see that the 9/11 tributes are still in full force 18 years later, from those who did or didn't lose people. For the most part, the chance for rah-rah empty would-be patriotism is eschewed in favor of warmth and remembrance. A tasty pepperoncini of love amid the hoagie full of hatred and hostility around the nation these days... pretty damn delicious. I'm grateful.
Also, while of course I'm completely biased, this video still gives me a good chill.

A work day in Atlanta turned into an afternoon w/ clients at Lake Lanier, a huge man-made lake 45 mins north of the city. Apparently, much of Ozarks was filmed here. We saw Marty’s sad house from the water. My southern companions (all of whom are Gators) are cranking Def Leppard, Millie Vanilli and Yacht Rock. I’m channeling my inner Whitney and enjoying all of it, with the help of cocktails.
Buckles and I say, Hi Gheorghies.
Yacht Rock will never die
Speaking of Yacht Rock, 1619 pod has been mentioned here, and I agree that it's been excellent, but I feel like they missed the mark with episode 3.
I thought ying a Yacht Rock pandora station to 'The Birth of American Music' is rather flippant, and a lot of more appropriate 'rootsy' reference points were ignored in favor of people whose names were slightly more recognizable (eg. Waters, Muddy as a black recording pioneer, whose first field recordings were made in 1941, decades after other black artists had been recording commercially).
A bit disappointing after a gripping episode 2, but I'd still recommend it.
Yoodge day.
