NFL Kickoff Open Thread

I don't watch much football these days, at least not the American kind. But lots of folks do, and we're all about inclusion at G:TB. So here's The Sundays singing about the summer. I definitely like Harriet Wheeler and summer.

Who schedules a Daisy troop meeting at 2pm on opening day?

a subversive suburban mom, trolling the shit out of all of you?

Shlara, I’m sitting two feet across from Kyle Chandler right now in the American Airlines lounge in Austin.

Mahomes has 141 yards through 6:30 of play. Unreal.

The subversive suburban mom in question is a W&M alum. I doubt she checks the NFL schedule when setting troop meetings.

i resent your characterization of w&m women on behalf of shlara, who definitely would check the nfl schedule before setting a troop meeting. or any other sort of meeting, really.

Me too, Shlara!!!
Our kids just started watching FNL another time yesterday!!
And I’m in for football, too 😀
Though my fantasy team is not doing so well!

This is a surprisingly tight match.

The men’s final is about to enter the fifth set. Might be worth tuning in.

All kinds of sporting affairs on the telly at the moment. Wife and I are more focused on yelling at our kids, who didn’t get enough sleep last night b/c a friend slept over. They’re a mess, and they’ve made us a mess b/c we are barking at them. Wine is not helping. Hopefully the scotch will make me sufficiently numb.

We let our girls have a friend over last night for a sleepover. My wife and I hate sleepovers - what TR said - but put this off for so long we felt it was time to acquiesce. Not a superfan of the guest either. She's just way too comfortable for an 8 year old.
How 'bout them Jags/Jets/DC team/Bucs....0-fer! Almost uncanny.
Acknowledging these squads are all 'meh or worse, still seems like a fluke. I hope I am wrong. I shall keep you posted.

Jets’ offense looked abysmal. The Darnold hype seems mighty premature. He was not good when he had time in the pocket.

That 5th set was something. The Russian with all the v’s in his last name showed a ton of heart.

I'm impressed with the Russian kid--amazing match and his post-match interview is even better

z and i engaged in some high-intensity texting during the tennis match. i'm pretty beat. i feel like i earned the win.

Yoodge day. I guess we're all worn out from football and tennis.

From Deadspin:

"Phasing in Guice makes sense, but it’s fully on brand for this dumb team to offend its own locker room leaders in Week 1 by ham-handedly managing the benching of their 1,000-yard back, who in March received a new two-year contract."

Awesome.

Just landed in Nashville for an unfortunately quick visit, which includes a 730 AM bkfst meeting. Some BBQ may be all, although I suppose I need to duck my head into at least one live music place. Highs of 95 in Nashville and Atlanta this week are no bueno for me and my poor suit jacket.

I watched pretty much the entire Men’s Final on the way back from Austin yesterday. Also caught the end of Lions-Cardinals which was surprisingly interesting. Mo Bamba was on my flight. No word on what he was watching.

This is a hell of a game. I am entertained.
