The island is under mandatory evacuation and nobody cares. The local bar around the corner is fucking packed. And me and the wife are contributing. All the locals are openly mocking this hurricane.
Dorian needs to hurry up. I have a trip to Austin on Thursday.
I don’t think I’ve ever waited this long on a hurricane. I bought supplies and trimmed trees on Thursday. The original evacuation was set for Sunday morning. They moved it back to today. I’m currently sitting at home, blocks from the ocean, with no rain and light winds.. It’ll be late Tuesday before we start to get any real effects.
I’m not complaining. Quite happy that this isn’t as bad as it originally looked but there’s something to be said about how much the local news hypes these weather events.
I did not expect this to be a good game. Always happy to root against Notre Dame.
ND potentially losing in early September is a pleasant way to conclude my Labor Day w/e.
Still waiting for my stomach to normalize after riding every single crazy coaster at Busch gardens y/day. There are at least six crazy coasters. Griffon has a 205’ straight vertical drop. Very fun to be there w/ two boys who wanted to attack them all day long. My 10 y/o said it was the most fun day he’s ever had. That’s worth something. Unfortunately, I had to miss the “Bier Fest” b/c I had to drive 375 miles home that night.
the griffon is for real. that's an excellent coaster. verbolten has a pretty good gimmick and a lot of speed. alpengeist is sneaky good, too. and loch ness monster is the granddaddy of them all.
Alpengeist is pretty much the reincarnation of the Big Bad Wolf. And the coasters in Italy (Apollo’s Chariot and Tempesto) are both fantastic. Another sneaky great one is Verbolten. We took it b/c it was a Fast Pass coaster and had low expectations. It was very good.
And my tradition there (dating back to the mid-80’s) is eating in the Oktoberfest area.
Is there any group of professionals in America who wear visors even remotely as much as football coaches do?
I was a big visor guy in my 20’s when my hair was longer. I still have a couple in my closet, but they never come out. And to answer your question, the only guy I know in my town who regularly wears visors are the youth football coaches, including my own and one of Zman’s neighbors.
I don’t love Louisville’s play-calling on O.
I liked visors when I had long hair. That was a long fucking time ago.
Offensive football coaches seem to be particularly partial to visors.
Louisville’s offense was impressive early on. Not so much since then.
i just got a new visor, for soccer and tennis. eye dr. said i'm going to get big red veins in my eyes if i don't protect them, but sometimes it's too hot to play with a hat on. you have to whip off the visor before you head the ball, which can either be a skillful and dramatic move or a spastic trainwreck.
Visors are for dooshnozzles and/or people who don’t know that sunglasses exist.
Somebody needs to bring painter’s caps. Especially the kinds w/ the Sahara flaps on the back. Those were boss.
I liked a visor into my early 40's, until I saw a vid of me wearing one. It made what I thought was a almost unnoticeable bald spot all but. A few days later I shaved it off. Thank you visor.

Another day of waiting for this storm. There is one bar still open. It’s around the corner and serves bar food. It’s packed. I’m here.
Several kids in our house. Just had a ping pong tourney. I am making frozen drinks to keep the self medz pumpin. Dorian is never coming. They should call her something else.
We spent the afternoon at the bar. Brought the kid because other kids were there and she was going nuts. Pac Man, Golden Tee and bar shuffleboard kept her entertained. Now eating at my in-laws before we go home and hunker.
Weather is glorious here in NJ. September is the best weather month by far. Humidity drops and ocean is still warm.
Less excited about the four sports (total) my two kids have. The wife and I set the calendar. And then we grimaced. I don’t see myself watching a lot of 1 PM Jets games this fall.
I have to work all but 5 days between now and October 4. Not much football in my future either.

Pretty much a non event here 5 miles inland. Had a couple of bands early this morning that cranked things up but very short lived. My 11 year old is outside and I am probably going to go into the office this afternoon.
