"Love is at the root of everything...or the lack of it." -- Fred Rogers
In these roiled, sordid times, we're waiting for a hero. For now, we'll have to make do with the memory of one.
Today, on the 90th anniversary of the birth of Fred Rogers, Focus Features released a trailer for 'Won't You Be My Neighbor', a documentary about Rogers and his landmark television show.
The film is scheduled for release on June 8, so you can take me to see it as a birthday gift. I'll be your neighbor.

You should go with zwoman, her birthday is June 7. You were both so close to being perpetually fratty...
I'm your huckleberry, Robert.
Fred Rogers had a strong presence in my sister's and my lives as kids:
- My granddad was the president of National Educational Television (precursor to PBS) when Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood hit the public TV waves. He loved Fred Rogers. We were force-fed that show.
- My Uncle Mike was tapped more than once to help with the puppets in the Land of Make Believe and got some screen time.
- My folks both went to Rollins College, where Fred Rogers was one of the most famous alums.
- I rock a cardigan. (Killer boots, man.)
- Like most youngsters of the 1970's and beyond, I watched him (and the gangs on Sesame Street and the Electric Company) all the time and dug his vibe. Purely good entertainment.
And as much as you get older and jaded and are tempted to think Mr. Rogers is hokey or a weirdo or something more sinister, eventually you see enough shit in life that you realize that he was a saint with a simple but terrific worldview and an amazing influence on children. The clip of him appealing to Congress for funding is bad-assed.
Anyway, yeah, I'll buy your ticket to that, buddy.
Verizon Fios pulled the Weather Channel from our cable lineup. We now have something called AccuWeather, which is a sad, shitty impostor.
I just flipped to the channel and they are showing a 120-second commercial for TestroVax and Growth Factor-9.
Side one of the Mike's Murder soundtrack + an Aslin triple ipa or three = a surprisingly nice snow day eve. Where the hell is Memphis? Must be next to Laundromat Monday.
