Little bit of mellow human harmony to get your Sunday started on the right note. Pun so, so intended.
English musician Jacob Collier is variously described as a "musical prodigy", a "multi-instrumental musical maximalist", and "one of the most inventive and gifted musicians working today". The 29 year-old has six Grammys and two Album of the Year nominations. His newest record, Djesse Vol. 4, features collaborations with artists from Brandi Carlisle to Chris Martin to Steve Vai to Kirk Franklin to Camilo to Anoushka Shankar. And until yesterday, I'd never heard of him.
As frequently happens late into the evening on weekends, I was wandering around the musical interwebs when I stumbled upon Collier. It wasn't his music that I found so interesting. Rather his habit of turning his live audiences into harmonic musical partners. For example:
Collier's critics say his prolific energy means he never stays in one place, musically, long enough to have a real voice of his own. It's true that his stuff is all over the place, from lullabyes to fuzzy pop rock to ethereal new agey. It strikes me that in that diversity is a uniqueness. I think I'll celebrate his whole catalogue. Even the weird stuff.

speaking of curses, the college hoops world seems universally high on the brian earl hire. been a long time since we could say that about a w&m head coach. i don't recall it for shaver, though he was a respected d3 guy. obx dave, did the charlie woollum hire have any juice?

Rob, the Woollum hire did indeed have small juice. Charlie had a darn fine track record at Bucknell -- bunch of conference titles, couple NCAA Tournaments. Lure of his alma mater brought him back, because otherwise no reason to leave Bucknell.
Shaver's hiring was viewed as an experiment. Yeah, he had outstanding run at D3 Hampden-Sydney, but there was no reason to think it would translate to D1 and certainly not at such a difficult job.
I'm unclear on the 'why' for the Earl move to W&M, given that he appeared to have a good thing going at Cornell. But I was reminded that the Ivys do not accept grad transfers, nor do they permit redshirting. Athletes get four years from the time they enroll, period. Grad transfers are a big deal for roster supplementation in present climate with transfer portal.
Ivys don't allow graduate students to compete in athletics, which is also why there's an outflow of Ivy kids showing up on other rosters, because many earn a degree in four years or less and still have a year of eligibility.
I probably say this every year but I hate how late most of the Sunday games during the tournament’s first weekend tip off. It’s fucking Sunday. Give me these games in the afternoon/early evening.
